The desktop I am currently using now is old and is way overdue for a replacement. A friend of mine has suggested to just build a new desktop and that is what i plan to do. I have a rough draft of what I am thinking about putting in there and was wondering how well it would run the game. Any help is appreciated!

Processor: AMD FX-8320 Vishera 3.5GHz (4.0 Ghz Turbo) 8 core processor
RAM: 8GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GT 630
OS: Probably Windows 8

It will run GW2, but it looks like some people here have set the standards to ’ if it doesn’t run the game with high setting at 60fps in WvW then it is garbage’.

You will have to lower some settings, but you will be able to run the game without lag

If you don’t already have that video card, get a better one. That’s a pretty low end card.

Don’t tell him he’ll be able to run the game without lag without knowing what type of activities he does in game.

If you took that box out into zerg WvW, or to the dragon events, even at lower settings, it’ll be choppy.

And we’ve never said it’s garbage (I’m one of the one’s you’re referring to in your first line), but most people come here asking “I’d like to buy xxx, and I want to WvW, how will I do?”

We’re trying to help people make informed decisions. WvW in the zergfest that it currently is is incredibly intensive, and you need a system to match.

That said, if you can bump that vid card up to a 660 and OC the processor a bit, you’ll do pretty well in WvW. (not 60 fps, but almost noone gets that in zergs anyway, even with a 2k dollar box)

That GPU wont do, the lowest u want to go Nvida side is a 650ti.

I recommend the AMD Sapphire 7870XT…that is ..if u can find one, iv been told they r mostly out of stock in the US. If ur from the UK though, they r still around the most noteble online vendors.

Excuse me? It’s a GT 630! Sure if they run with performance settings at a low enough resolution and stay away from large events it’s fine but 9 times out of 10 those restrictions will chafe at them badly. “Oh I thought this game is suppose to look good” “Oh it’s laggy (low fps) at 1920×1080” “Oh WvW turns into a slide show”.

So for those that want to run at the native resolution of their monitor with the settings turned up and doing large player events like the dragons, the maw or WvW then the GT 630 is lousy.

Lol where was the time that everyone on this forum told people that cpu was not good, need to change the cpu, nobody talked about gpu because it only did 40% of the job, and now all the sudden the gpu is more important ? Guess summer is coming
(And no i was not referring to you Limey, more to solarnova and co)

That is because the CPU in the aforementioned box isn’t terrible, its actually one of the top end AMD CPUs. The GPU in this case is meant for a media center PC or some generic workstation and will chug when playing games (besides FB games).

I also recommend at least a GTX 650Ti for when playing at 1080p and getting 30FPS at mediocre settings around most of the game.

Indeed, i didnt mention the CPU becouse its fine, infact its ‘almost’ the best u can ask for from AMD, as much as i always recommend Intel CPU’s like the 3570k or 3770k, if som1 has chosen atleast a FX8k series AMD, i wont try change there mind, becouse the FX8k series, specialy the FX8320 and FX8350 are close enough to the 3570k in single thread performance when OC’d that, so long as ur not after the best of the best, will be fine.

I bet to disagree, the GPU will do the job at medium setting even in WvW where the CPU will be the bottleneck, the GPU dosn’t really matter for WvW if u play at medium settings and 720p res, The 630 will give u same FPS during a zerg than a GTX titan as long u play at moderate graphical settings. If u don’t really care about playing games at low/med settings then the 630 might fill ur needs. I do recomend to OC the CPU to 4.4ghz at least tho, it is quite easy to do if u do a little research.
If u really want to play games at fairly high graphical settings and 60+ FPS at moderate res (up to 1080p) the u need a 150$+ Video card at least, a 650ti boost or a radeon hd7850 are decent entry lvl gaming cards.

True story!

The Vishera cores are much better than the old Bulldozers and will run with the Intels in multithreaded apps. Just wish GW2 would make better use of multiple cores on that rendering pipeline. That would be good for everyone.
