This is because the game is heavily CPU bound. It doesn’t take a great graphics setup to run GW2 at max, but it take one kitten of a CPU.

Hi,
usually when i want to get some improvement in FPS in other games, i lower the resolution, reduce the ui size and i notice an increase.Although in GW2 going from 1680×1050 to 1280×720, apart form making the game really ugly, doesn’t improve its smoothness in a major way.
Hi Ariete,
Part of the ugliness will be caused by using the incorrect aspect ratio for your monitor.
1280×720 is a 16:9 aspect ratio compared to 1680×1050 which is 16:10. If you want to keep the correct aspect ratio then you should use 1280×800.

That my friend doesn’t seem to be possible… I came to my friends’ place to try out the game on his rig (i7 3770k @4.2 7950 o/c edition) guess what it still goes down to mid 20s in WvW zergs… Guess one must get 3-4k costing rig to play a 50$ game…
Another 300 or 400mhz on his CPU would likely help to atleast keep fps above 30. But ofcourse being a Ivybridge that would likely require ether a top of the line Air Cooler (if ur lucky with the silicon lottery) or good AIO water cooler.
A cheaper though mroe risky option would be poping of the IHS and replacmeng the TIM, then u could get away with just an Air cooler since replacing the IHS TIM can give about 10c or more better temps.
