I just moved to a new apartment for the summer, and the internet here isn’t letting me play Guild Wars 2 adequately. Fairly occasionally I’ll get a heavy amount of input lag. Unfortunately, there’s no way for me to improve the internet speed. The connection is wireless, and I had to buy this (http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wireless-N-300-Adapter-WNA3100/dp/B003G2Z1M6) to use the wireless on my desktop. I ran a speedtest, and it came back with a ping of 68, 3.65Mbps down and .83Mbps up. These are the same speeds my roommate got with his laptop, so I don’t think getting a better adapter would do anything?

Are there any tips/tricks for making my computer run GW2 with less lag? Any settings changes either in game or through my pc? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Frostedblaze – It looks like you have quite a bit of packet loss en route to our game servers. Because of this, I’d recommend getting into contact with your ISP to see if they can help you out. Aside from this, you can try a proxy service to see if this improves your connection at all. Keep in mind though that the use of proxies are not supported, though they’re certainly allowed for player use.

Lastly, I might also suggest Msconfig to cut down on some of your background apps. If anything this should improve performance for you at least a little.

Hmm about the input lag, didn’t another Anet member confirmed it was the problem of GW2 servers? Like the problems that also occur a lot in large WvW fights? I am confused now

Would the problem be fixed if I switched to a wired connection? Because that would be a possibly for a small fee.

Of course, a wired connection is always more reliable than a wave lan connection, but the connection from your pc to your wlan access point is only the first hop in a series of connection step from your pc to ncsoft’s servers. See the result of your pathping:

The percentage values between two steps describe the package loss that occures during that hop. As you can see there are already a number of problems before you reach any ncsoft server (e.g., hops 5-6-7-8). This is your ISP’s responsibility.

However, if I understand this correctly, there seems also to be a high package loss percentage in hop 11-12, which seems to be part of GW2’s content delivery network. I assume this is ANet’s responsibility (or at least the responsibility of ANet’s ISP).

Hey again Frostedblaze – To avoid any confusion, skill delay is a known issue which is a server side issue if this is what you mean by input lag. We don’t have an ETA for a fix or any status updates on this, though in the mean time it wouldn’t hurt to contact your ISP if this is the only problem you’re having. Additionally, a wired connection will give you a much more stable connection than a wireless connection would, though it wouldn’t hurt to give it a go as a troubleshooting step.
