Hello. Yesterday I recently purchased Guild Wars 2 from a Wal-Mart store. I took it out of the box, put in disc one and ran it as administrator, the launcher popped up for a few seconds, then closed with no sign of activity whatsoever, and I do think I meet the system requirements. It would not create the .Dat or Tmp files until I went online, downloaded the client from the website, moved it into a folder on my desktop, disabled my anti-virus, and messed with it for about 30 minutes. It has created the files now, but when I pull up the launcher it sits totally blank (Just a gray launcher with the picture of the Sylvari girl, no news, no “log-in” boxes, no text or no anything except for bold text at the bottom saying “Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec)”. My Dat file does seem to grow while it does this, but I also did this last night and the .DAT file got up to about 14 GB then stopped, and no progress was made after that.
Here’s an attachment of my test, It might be my graphics card but I have a 256 mb one, or whatever is required, although it’s older. Any help would be lovely… I’ve tried for hours and hours.

I’ve had this same exact experience. I haven’t done any tinkering, however, since I’m not really good with computers and wouldn’t know what to do or what could possibly fix my issue.

Yeah, it’s quite frustrating. I hope they give me a heads up to what to do. :/

Anti virus programs and such seem to get in the way of the launcher sometimes. Try disabling them and see if that changes anything or re-configuring them.

@Smackjack
I tried it but it didn’t work. Disabling my firewall and running the program as an administrator don’t seem to work either. I’ve tried downloading the client from the website as well instead of using the disc, but it’s the same problem.

Yeah, I’m hoping so too. I was thinking about using a transfer cable to transfer the files or a flash drive to move the game from one computer to another. I have it downloaded on my laptop, and I was wondering if I could simply bypass the whole installation process if I simply moved the already-installed game to my desktop. I’m not sure if that would work though.

I did indeed try that, Smack. I disabled it while trying to install it, ran it as admin each time, and went into firewall settings and allowed the .exe connection. I use McAffee.
