Is this overkill?
From what I have seen nothing is overkill when it comes to WvW. So if you enjoy that and you can afford this monster, go for it.
If you don’t care about WvW, then you could probably back off a bit.
You can get an Ivybridge core for the same price as you’re paying for that CPU. Just saying.

Dont do it its an issue with the game, not ur laptop u should just be patient like many other and wait for a fix instead of spending all that money.
If you have 1500 bucks, do it, I’d use anything as an excuse to put together a new computer :P amirite?

Well right now technically I wouldn’t buy an nvidia gpu for this game until you know for sure when they are going to release drivers. ?Nvidia has yet to release updated drivers optimized for GW2. I would definately get a second graphics card as well

The soundcard is a waste of money. Almost no one buys them these days. The onboard sound chip on your mobo is just as good unless you are a professional sound engineer or something.

Some of them pick up enough digital noise to be audible if the listening environment’s quiet enough. Hearing the computer process the mouse’s movement is amusing for a few minutes, then it gets annoying.
Still, I wouldn’t buy a dedicated card until trying out the onboard sound. It’s placed better on some motherboards than others, and what you connect to it definitely makes more difference in sound quality.

No I’m sure Nvidia are just going to ignore one of the biggest releases of the year and just not bother. It makes good business sense to just pass it over. Infact I hear they are stopping driver releases altogether as another great business strategy.
True story.

Doubt there will be any releases any time soon.

Ways to lower the price with minimal impact:
Don’t go socket 2011 if you aren’t getting a hexacore.
Ivy bridge is a faster architecture so drop down to an i5 3570K and z77 motherboard if you are just using it for a gaming machine.
Drop to 8gb ram.
Ditch the soundcard.
Honestly, unless you plan on downloading hd movies and have a music library the size of Rhode Island, you might as well take the money for the 2 TB and buy a decently sized solid state drive.
ew just get n an custom bulit pc you save money and can put in crazy parts of wait this game can’t use amd grapics card in 6000 series becuase it will shut off your pc in 15 mins !!!!

I have an asus 6970 DirectCUII and it never shuts off. I have done 13 hour GW2 marathon and the card has not shut off. Usually this kind of stuff is caused by faulty hardware though I have seen(and experienced) that faulty drivers can also cause this type of behaviour. It could be anything from faulty sound driver to graphics driver, chipset driver. hard to tell. One thing is for sure, you need a tech to diagnos your system.
hmm ok so I dropped the sound card, dropped down to 8 GB RAM, and replaced the i7 processor with that Ivy i5 and successfully lowered the price by $200. Can anyone please explain whats so special about this i5 though, I always thought the i7 was better?
There is no gain in 95% of the games from using an i7 over an i5 simply because most don’t support more than 2 or 4 threads meaning you will get no benefit from hyperthreading.
