Issues seeing specific characters in chat
So nobody has any ideas or similar issues with other languages?
Have you tried testing different keyboard settings? (I know you mentioned your regional settings, so it’s just to confirm keyboard input setup)
Do you have the same issues inputting these characters into a text editor? Or anywhere else on the Internet?
I have tried changing the keyboard layout as well, and text editors such as notepad and ms word accept these characters normally, and yes even other games like WoW and other forums show them okay, it’s just GW2 and GW2 forums that cannot show them for some unknown reason.
How odd. Hopefully a support staff sees this and can help, or you might need a ticket. Look at the submitting a ticket sticky in the tech support forum.
What’s really weird is that I can actually see all of these characters in the bubbles that hover over someones head, just not in the chat window below, guess ticket is my only option now.
Yeah, sorry I couldn’t be any help friend
Please post back if they give you a solution to help anyone else who might experience this also.
Support says that it isn’t one of the officially supported languages and that they can’t help because GW2 does not support it, but that still doesn’t really answer the question how some can see these special characters and some don’t… obviously GW2 does support it somehow, or sometimes…
Well, that’s a bummer
I’m really not sure what to try here since I only use standard keyboard input… And a Mac. I could enter ñ into the chat panel and it showed up, but I’m not sure why certain ones don’t work. I won’t have the opportunity to play for a couple days, but when I do, I’ll see what characters I can get away with and post if I find anything useful.
Sorry friend!
Just wanted to add here for future archive reasons that this issue has finally been successfully resolved. Upon further discussion about this in my guild, someone came to a very simple idea, changing the chat font size in the chat bar in GW2. It seems that these issues only appear on the large setting, but not on medium and small, so if anyone else might have such problems, just change your font size.
This isn’t the first such issue I’ve seen with the “Large” interface setting.
I’m in the U.S., playing/typing in English, and the “—” character appears as “?” when the interface is set to “large.” That’s mostly just distracting when reading NPC mail, since each of them is signed with that character.

What a bizarre problem, but I’m glad you figured it out Doom! I learned something new today

The problem wasn’t with the large interface, that was a problem I already knew about and it wasn’t solving this issue, but the font size option in the chat bar seems to have it’s own separate but similar issues, and that’s a well hidden option on the little cog in the chat bar. So yeah they are both things you will have to keep an eye out and I can imagine if both are set incorrectly things will really be messy.
Great point doom! Thanks for mentioning that!
