Laptop cpu upgrade
You can only change the CPU in certain high-end laptops. You’re pretty much out of luck with that one.
EGVA SuperNOVA B2 750W | 16 GB DDR3 1600 | Acer XG270HU | Win 10×64
MX Brown Quickfire XT | Commander Shaussman [AGNY]- Fort Aspenwood
You really can’t change CPU on the laptop easily (very limited choices), it is not worth doing so if you find one because it will be only a few Mhz differences.
Only Desktop can replace parts for upgrades.

That’s why gamers go with the DIY desktop route. Most laptops are for suckers when gaming is involved. CPU and GPUs are lower performing, often the drives are 5400RPM which is noticeable, you get less performance for the same amount of money, it’s not upgradable beyond more ram and maybe swapping the drive and if you spill your drink on one it’s very bad news where on a desktop you run down to the store for a new keyboard.
RIP City of Heroes
You can change the CPU on most laptops if it’s not soldered onto the board which usually it isn’t. However, the process is lengthy, warranty becomes void as hell, it costs a lot, and you have to really look for a processor that has the same socket and is in the end, better to just buy a replacement laptop or use what you have. The only way you get a new CPU for a laptop is very specific vendors or refurb or buying some dead junker off of ebay.
Not worth it.
You can change it as long as the BIOS supports the CPU you are installing (and, of course, it has to be the same socket type).
You probably won’t gain a whole lot of performance, but every little bit helps.
The thing is; you’re are going to have to completely disassemble the laptop to do it (which is always a complete pain in the…).
I have an acer v3-551-8887 with an AMD A8-4500m cpu its not very good but it gets the job done. It is a laptop buy im looking to upgrade the cpu if its possible. Please leave suggestions or tell me if i can even change the cpu
You are running a Trinity APU in that laptop. Almost the best one for the Family.
The best upgrade for you is going to run about $230 on ebay. Its the A10-4600M. The MAIN difference is the Graphics. You run a HD7640G, while the 4600M runs the HD7660. The Difference between the HD7640G and the HD7660G is pretty big.
Here are some Benches on the 7660G

Now, with that being said. I would ONLY put the cash into this upgrade under the following Circumstances.
1. You cannot afford a new laptop for about 800.
2. Your Current Laptop already has the following
SSD, 8GB+ RAM, 1080P Screen
If you upgrade, also get IC Diamond7 Thermal Paste and use that during the APU Upgrade.
After its all said and done, you will also want to take a look at K10Stat for really getting the best bang for your Buck out of that APU. It lets you undervolt, overvolt, and force the Multiplier to go above the defaults.
I run a Llano APU Laptop. Mine has a dedicated HD7690M, teamed with the APU’s 6620G. I can get about 65FPS in the open World when I push my CPU to 2.8Ghz, and 15FPS in WvW when there are 30+ Players around. and in LA looking at the Fountain 27-30FPS. with your Upgrade option, you can expect that +10%~. But My Laptop also runs at 80c’s under 90% Load.

Keep in mind when you do manage to change the processor in a laptop, you may have to really adjust the cooling with it. Processors go into laptops based on how the laptop’s hardware can cool it. They don’t put i7s in laptops that can’t cool them. Same goes for AMD quad cores.
