Hi, Gaily
Do you have any new information about the issue?
I just run GW2.exe with -repair argument.
But the issue is still unsolved.
Below is a content of VerifyResults file
I hope it will help you.

Hi guys,
I’m also experiencing this issue. It does not give me an error message, it just throws me back to the launcher.
I’m in South Africa.
The repair option doesn’t fix the problem and I cannot connect to the VPN.
Thanks

Hi. The problem is urgent! Cannot download updates. Writes that there is no Internet connection. VPN does not help – the same thing happens. Repair is also not working((
Please put here the actual GW2.exe for download. I and other users try using it to download the updates.
The problem was resolved after connecting the USB modem. All installed)
We do agree, this is a very urgent matter and while we know that some players have things all fixed up now, others do not. Tracking e-mails amongst the programming team, and they are working kitten this even at this late hour, shows they are researching the matter and discussing how best to mitigate the problem. We know the VPN solution mentioned by Earthrune in this thread works (for some, not for others), and we’d like an easier solution for you, one that works for all. Therefore, the work continues: Research, analyze, review, discuss, solve. (Believe me, if it’s quiet, it’s not because people aren’t working on this — they are!)
We really do apologize for the inconvenience. Incidentally, the team is taking steps to try to ensure that this doesn’t happen in the future, so short-term and long-term solution is in their view.
Thanks a bunch for your patience!

Thank you for the assistance and attention given to this error.
My husband also was still unable to play (connecting from South-Africa), however the VPN solution below corrected the issue and we can now play just fine without it.
The solution is to download a VPN run it and the client will begin updating. Once the client begins to download you can shut down the VPN.
This is what I am using. http://download.cnet.com/CyberGhost-VPN/3000-2144_4-75145993.html?tag=mncol;5
I have some info incoming from the Programming Team. I want to make sure I give you absolutely the right steps to download the patch that will correct this issue, so bear with me as I get that info for you!
This is ridiculous, it’s the same issue my brother and I had on the last patch. Both of us have the same issue again. The gw2 launcher client is not patching the GW2 game correctly.
The error I get after I select my character and click log in is below, posted screen shots.
I hope it will help you.

It’s not my network settings, pc fire walll, networks fire wall, or anything on my end far as I can tell. I’m a network admin, so I think I covered all my bases. I’m about to fire up wireshark and start picking your packets apart!

nerv — I’m sorry you’re having the issue, and that it’s a repeat for you guys. I think I was posting as you did, did you see my note above? I hope to have some info (or a programmer will post) very soon.
Yeah I saw that right after I posted. Last time I had to download the game at work, and bring it home on external media, to fix this issue. I don’t mind doing that every now and then. But if it’s every time the game patches, we got a problem. I/we have been playing on and off since launch, and never seen this one until just this month, I had to do that on 14th, so whatever patch was right before that.
Here are some instructions from the Guild Wars 2 Programming Team (bless ’em!) that should help resolve this issue for players who are experiencing it:
1. Locate your Guild Wars 2 shortcut
2. Right-click and select “Properties.”
3. In the “Target” line, after the string for your GW2.exe, add this string (after a space:
-assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com
Here is a correctly formatted example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com (there are no quotation marks on the added string)
4. Run Guild Wars 2.
5. Remove the added string afterwards. It no longer is needed once you have patched.
6. Please update this thread if you are continue having difficulties. When you post, let us know if you tried the VPN alternative as well as the added string in your Target line.
Thank you again for your patience.
Hello, i tried VPN and it didn´t work. When i use the added string i got no update for the game. I´m from Germany
> -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com
Unfortunately, this is not working for me.
Just in case, If it matters, I am from Russia
No dice so far, ping to that CDN looks good, latency 50ms. It just loads per normal as if there was no patch, straight to the logon prompt. I double checked, still the same version of the game. Brothers computer as well.
I played around with that url string, if you change it at all the game tries to connect to the patch server, but will not load. So either it connects and “works” or it errors out, pretty simple. http://i.imgur.com/JFvWFsb.jpg
Re-downloading the game didn’t work. The -assetsrvassetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com command didn’t work either. Going to try the VPN download next.

I’ve tried this one. It didn’t work. Still forced back to launcher and no patch to download

It finally patched after doing this. Thank you sir!
So So sorry. The team chanted some arcane incantations and sacrificed a small skritt to the six gods. Could you please try again to follow the instructions I posted a bit ago?
It seems, now login server is down.
After pressing log-in button, there is an error screen
“The game client was unable to connect to the log-in server”
Error Code: 58:11:5:512
can play after

if u can apply it mean it was correct format

This work actually works!! Launcher patched after VPN.
i was having that restarting issue after pressing play but now i’m getting Error Code: 58:11:5:512 after pressing login
tried the shortcut modify and still getting Error Code: 58:11:5:512 after press login
sorry for grammer

Hi Gaile, I tried using the command line argument, but it seems to cause Error 58 instead and removing it doesn’t seem to help any (or maybe the login server is just down when I try it). Could you ask the team to try with a dolyak sacrifice this time? :p
Thanks for the hard work for you and the team, by the way, even if it hasn’t really solved it for some others.
I still have issue and I get error message :
Gaile, Your advice with -assetsrv still is not working.
And seems, the situation getting worse, now we are getting login server connection failure.
I’m really curious, why you can not give the direct link on a patched client so that users can manually download latest version of gw2.exe?
-assetsrv not working too.
“The game client was unable to connect to the log-in server”
Error Code: 58:11:5:512
everything working right now thank you GW2 TEAM Y(^.^)Y
I have the same problem, was able to play the game yesterday until the update came.
After which when i try to log in I get the error code Error Code: 58:11:5:512
But when I do not type in the correct password the game do pick that up
I am still not able to update the game or log in
Non of the previous tips helped so far (did not try the VPN though)
Well, it seems that whatever was sacrificed to the Six Gods after my last report went well and the launcher managed to update the game build to Gw2: 27836. I’ve just logged into Lion’s Arch and all is good.
I didn’t use the VPN and had the -assetsrv command line argument when I started the launcher that made it patch (now removed per instruction).
Thank you for all the hard work, ArenaNet, and have a very Merry Wintersday!
I mean, Christmas.
Status check (because there may have been more tweaks): are you able to log in? If not, what is the issue you’re seeing?
Status check (because there may have been more tweaks): are you able to log in? If not, what is the issue you’re seeing?
The issues i have now are just logging in from the launcher, getting error code 58:11:5:512
I’m from South Africa (playing on a US server if it helps), and I also keep getting the error code 58:11:5:512. I have tried the repair, network diagnostics, and the the thing you suggested, none of which worked. And the VPN gave me a virus which I had to remove. Are there any other fixes?
Tried the “-assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com” solution and it did not work. Same “code=7:11:3:191:101” error. It is really frustrating getting disconnected every few minutes. If this issue does not get solved soon, I am quitting the game all together.
Update: after the “code=7:11:3:191:101” error I get redirected to the character select menu. From there, I get the error 58.
(edited by Balthazar.9543)
Ok, so two of the Error 58’s and one of Error 7, plus the earlier reports. 58 and 7 are quite different, so I’ll ask one of our good programmer folks to review this.
Thank you for posting — it will help us resolve this for you!
And I wanted you to know that a goodly number of team members are active in an e-mail thread about this (even into the wee hours of the morning), and they are working to get this sorted. It’s a pesky issue — you can tell that — but they’ll get it fixed.

Hi Gaile. I’m from South Africa too. Aurora Glade server. Game build 27381. Error message 58:11:5:512 being reported each time I try to login. Ran the client with the “-repair” command added to exe, didn’t help. Tried the “-assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com” command, that didn’t help either. Tried restarting the client and then the pc, also no luck. Would really like to be able to play again, please advise.
Aurora Glade – SA player.
Error code 58
Game works perfectly on Windows 7 64 bit until yesterday at around 9pm CAT
CyberGhost did not help, nor did the -repair
Thank you @AreaNet for your support in this matter
(edited by ZaningeN.9853)
SA Player too – Desolation server.
Successfully played on the 22nd last time.
Last night (23rd) had the client restart problem after logging in at first.
Did a system restore this morning (24th), thinking it was installs / updates. Didn’t work. Got the Error message 58:11:5:512 after system restore.
Getting the Error message 58:11:5:512 still now, even after undoing the system restore.
-repair doesn’t work, CyberGhost5 VPN suggestion doesn’t work, restarting client & PC doesn’t work.
Then tried the -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com in the target line, and it downloaded the patch.
And I am happy to say, it works now!! Thanx a lot ArenaNet!
It sounds like there are multiple issues going on based on the symptoms being reported. For clarification, the issue I was describing yesterday which I resolved by bypassing my proxy cache for “assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com” was as follows:
If I hit F11 once we got to the character select screen, the game was reporting the previous build (27,495) rather than the current build that I was seeing on my machine (27,836).
Again, no error message was ever displayed – the game simply seemed unaware that an update was available and (I’m guessing) bailed out when it realized that the server and client versions mis-matched and exited back to the launcher to try to grab the update that it couldn’t see.
We have a new solution. Let us tap out the full instructions. Some of you won’t need them, but we like to be complete.
Give us a few and we’ll post ’em.
Thanks!

In California, Client gets to Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec) and stays there. -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com added to the target line. [“C:\Users\genariccomputername\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com] and still not working.
Here is how to correct this issue. After work by the programming team, it’ll be this simple:
But for those of us (like me ) who like a full step-by-step, here is it:
And here’s a shorter version of the instructions that accomplishes the same thing:
With this fix, you do not need to use the –assetserv flag from last night.
Please post if this does not work for you, but with a fresh EXE you should be good to go!
Thanks again for your patience and understanding! Now, get out there and do some Wintersday celebrating!

Problem is solved here
Thank you for all the hard work
I’m naming my kid “Gaile Grey” and telling him/her that it means “Lightbringer”
Much thanks to everyone who helped making Windersday a success.
Merry Christmas/Hanukka/(Have a nice day).
Downloaded the new exe. Works like a charm!
Thank you very much Gaile and the Anet team.
Glad this is working, guys! Do keep posting to let us know all is well, or give us any update on a situation that is less-than-cleared. ~cross fingers~
(And thanks for the kind words, Z, but it’s really all about the programmers who did this, I just posted a few times with all their programmer-y goodness. However, pro tip: If “Gaile” is a derivation of “Gail” which is, I’m told, Welsh for “father’s beloved daughter” don’t do a “he” on this one, eh? )

Well, now I managed to break the launcher. I have no idea if my issue is related to this issue or different.
So yesterday I checked Windows Update and noticed an ATI/AMD update. After installing this, I noticed my screen no longer froze up (or as often) and I could at least play for longer periods without everything locking up – somewhat playable. A Windows Update made things better.
Today, I noticed more Windows Updates and installed them. Now the GW2 download client sits at 0 KB/0 KB. And I can’t close the launcher, I can only crash the launcher. I’ve tried everything suggested here except the CyberGhost VPN, yet, though I’m debating if I should just re-install GW2 from scratch.
Summary: Played GW2 today > installed Windows Updates > Launcher broken. My bad – I know better than to keep Windows updated.

This does not work for me, still the same error. Goes to Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec) and stays.
My problem may be caused by something else, but here it is:
I had downloaded and run the game normally after yesterday’s patch, but after attempting to install my new headset, the game started crashing on launch. I’ve tried uninstalling all of the headset drivers and detaching the headset from the computer, but the problem persists. I’m in the middle of re-installing at the moment. I’ve tried the -repair command line, -assetsrv command line, and the replacement gw2.exe fixes, but neither has worked.
The problem I am experiencing is that the launcher starts and shows that there’s no files to download and update for a moment, and then goes to the main launcher normally. I am able to log in normally as well. However, when I press the play button to launch the game, the game opens up to the full normal window size that I play at and immediately crashes. It crashes at the same spot each time.
I didn’t save the whole error log, but I sent the bug report, and here is the small section that I saved:
assertion: dims.x && dims.y
File: ..\..\..\Engine\Gr\Img\ImgCalc.cpp(27)
