Hello, I’m looking to build my own computer to be able to play the game to it’s maximum potential. I want to play on high/ultra settings while also having excellent performance. I have been reading other threads and have seen a lot of different opinions on different CPUs, GPUs, and other parts listed. A lot of lingo that is used when discussing computer parts looks foreign to me, as I am new to the topic. I would just like to ask what builds everyone uses? What processors have you found out to be best, likewise for graphics cards, etc.?
I just need help with what parts to buy to go into my new computer. Thanks!
Oh, and I currently play the game on my MacBook Pro 13" Retina display late 2012. It does okay with the game, just on high settings I only get 18-20 fps.

This would work well. You could probably drop the GPU lower and opt for a better CPU cooler, but it’s your call.

HAF 912 | i7-3770k @ 4.5 GHz | MSI GTX 1070 GAMING 8GB | Gigabyte Z77X-D3H
EGVA SuperNOVA B2 750W | 16 GB DDR3 1600 | Acer XG270HU | Win 10×64
MX Brown Quickfire XT | Commander Shaussman [AGNY]- Fort Aspenwood

You should start looking at intel 4rd generations(haswell) i5 cpu and New AMD r9 series GPU, if u want max effiency for your money.(AMD cpu got better performance for money, but in gw 2 those dont shine since they have lower horsepower per core)

Also go to some techsite ie. Afterdawn.com, and ask for PC setup there, most likely you will get alot better responses as those guys help PPL everyday with same things.

i7-4770k@4.4hz(1.19v)/Gigabyte z87x-D3H
r9 290 OC+bios mod(accelero xtreme III)
Phanteks PH-TC14PE/Samsung 830 series ssd

You should start off by telling us your budget. There can always be a more powerful option and you just can’t get too powerful CPU for this game. If only sky is the limit we can give you a killer build which will last for years, if you’re on a tight budget even a slightest tweak could make it or break it.

That being said, the build recommended above looks very good and is maybe the best bang for the buck that gives you smooth gameplay with a little headroom. Some dollars can be saved by minor changes or a few more can be spent for minor upgrades. At this point is just a matter of how much you’re willing to spend.

The power supply can also be dropped to 500 or even 450 and save some bucks.

I would’ve gone for the CX500, but the CX600 was actually like $3 cheaper when I made the build.

No, a 500W PSU cannot handle an OC on the i5-4670K. It will heat up and eventually pop, like mine did. 600w is the min if you are going with a 4th gen K.

For gw2 a Hd 7790 is more then enough my 7770 can run it on ultra with about 20% spare power

Sure, my GTX 660 (which is more powerful and more expensive tho) keeps the FPS pretty much the same despite the graphic options (except all maxed with supersampling vs everything on lowest), but it’s not worth to build a system to run just 1 game. Most other games use GPU much more so it makes sense to have a little more headroom on that front.

That is what it means to be CPU bound. At a certain point, higher end GPUs make no difference until a better CPU is added to the mix. Which is why I’m VERY content with my HD7790 too. Works in GW2 very well, and almost perfect in every other game I have thrown at it. Worth every penny of the 117~ I paid for it :-)

A quality 500W PSU is perfectly fine for a single card build. 600 is excessive- you could likely go for 2 midrange GPUs with that.

I’d have to agree here. A 500w PSU with something like 80 Plus Gold certification would probably handle all of that plus some OC fairly easily.
