Title.
I’m getting about 10 fps in large battles regardless of what i set my graphics settings on. Either recommended at highest resolution, or everything on low at lowest resolution.
Any idea what the problem could be?

What is your graphics card?

Having the same problem, I lowered my settings down to the point where I get almost 100fps without vsync but when I get into a boss battle with a few dozen other players like at the frozen maw, it starts lagging like crazy. We need a spell effects and particle density option that we can turn down, right now there doesn’t seem to be any way to control that.

We need so much more data about your system, please hand them in.

Video card is GeForce GTX 550 Ti
But i find it hard to believe the problem is the card when the frames are the same regardless of settings.
What else do you need about my system?

Everything. CPU? Ram? What do you think, we dont have a globe of instant user support built into our asuran heads
Please update to the newest drivers. See the sticky thread.

I’m usualy with 40 FPS in game, it’s fine for me.
But at some places, as the Dragon Fight in that Charr thing (forgot the name), I get 5 FPS, It’s unplayable, I don’t think that’s optimised but it is an terrible experience, not even WvW does that to my FPS.

Video card, but not network card. I use a usb wireless. Not really much to upgrade there

@PinkTaco
Kindly use the nvidia beta driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.02-beta-driver.html Remember to do a custom install then perform clean installation.
What resolution are you playing in? After installation go to your nvidia control panel and set adjust image settings with preview to Performance and Physx Configuration to 550ti instead of auto.

The Q6600’s are starting to get long in the tooth. This seems more like a processing limit than anything, other people with older rigs are experiencing the same issues so hopefully I can help more than just you.
Try overlocking the Q6600 to 3.0-3.4GHZ and see if that makes a difference. My wifes Q9550 lags a little bit at stock clocks but runs much better at 3.6GHz.
Google “How to overclock Q6600” if you don’t know how to, and make sure that you have a capable motherboard.
If your motherboard has no overclocking settings then turn off reflections and shaders to get the biggest performance buffs.

Well the framerates seem to peak much better when doing random quests around the worlds, but I think i still have the same issue in high pop fights in WvW. If it is in fact a processor issue, i guess im boned.

If you want to gain more fps. Disable Reflections,Shadows and Post processing.

Something else to check is to make sure you don’t have any programs running in the background while playing.

I’ve noticed the same issue, I changed all my settings to low, yet my FPS did not improve but by maybe 5-8 frames per second. I was thinking that maybe some of the settings don’t take effect until after a restart? Haven’t tried it yet, being that I haven’t done any type of PvP or WvW since then.

What videocard are you using? Can you post your dxdiag as well? If you’re using the same CPU and GPU as Pink Taco you both should get 25-30fps at most and it will probably dip down from large fights.

On a side note, after updating to Nvidia’s 306.02 (Beta) 64-bit drivers the textures
would flicker randomly, which is really annoying, so be careful.
After a bit of experimentation, it appears it was caused by turning on AA Transparency
in the Nvidia control panel.
Will do more thorough testing tonight, but it’s really difficult to duplicate the problem due to its randomness :P

^ I’ll try to test the AA tonight just got replacement card this afternoon.

My problem and configuration are almost identical to TwoSwords, so I’ll post mine here too. I would think that getting the same fps basically at max settings and min settings should be a clue about what is happening.

People keep asking for specs and thread after thread we see medium and high end systems that have issues with large group play. You can have a top of the line system, great specs, correct drivers and everything. The moment you hit WvW or a large event though.. It goes to hell quick. You can drop from 60-80 fps down to 15-20 fps. Some drop in performance is expected, but this is drastic and it it most certainly not 100% related to our hardware.

Well, ive noticed one thing.. it seems only one of my 4 cores is even being used. I’m 90% sure THIS is the problem…
I don’t suppose this is something we can fix on our end is it?

Can you monitor you GPU Load and CPU load while playing? Have you checked also in window mode?
@PinkTaco
I have the same q6600 not overclocked and 460gtx no issue with the processor so far. Are you checking this while gw2 minimized? or Alt tab? Can you check and go to taskbar right click on gw2 and set affinity to only Core 0 and Core 1? See if this changes the frame rate. Also can you monitor you GPU Load? it should peak 80~100%.
Btw, WvW is very taxing expect to see <25fps if there’s a large fight other than that its usually 30+fps

I’m minimized when looking.
So is there no way to get over my 8 frames a second based on my system? I feel like my machine should be able to handle WvW.
*edit*changing affinity lowered framerate so that didnt help. I guess it is using all 4 after all.

What resolution are you playing? 1920×1080? or lower? As per suggestion you could try overclocking the CPU to 3ghz+ and get about 5 fps in Large WvW. My stock Q6600460GTX is ok in PvE and some small scale WvW (usually 30-40+fps, medium settings1 1680×1050 resolution) but greatly falls below 20 in Large scale WvW.
I have another machine E6300 (2.13ghz lol ) + 560ti (low-med setting 1920×1080) hovers around 15-30fps then drops down to 5-8fps in WvW or Large fights. It seems the first gen Core 2 Quads and Duos are showing up its age.

I’m on 1440×900 resolution. But again, changing the resolutions to minimum didn’t adjust the frames any.
