Hey,

I recently got a new desktop.

Intel S1150 Core i7 4790 3.60Ghz Quad Core CPU
ASUS S1150 ATX Z87-EXPERT Motherboard
NVIDIA GTX760 4gb
16gb RAM
Windows 8.1
Running of SSD

Settings:
- All on low apart from Animations, Model Limit and Model Quality which are on high.
- No Shadows.
- No reflections.

My friends comp
Intel S1155 i7 3770 3.4Ghz Quad Core
S1155 AicroATX Motherboard
GTX550 1gb
4g RAM
Windows 7
Running off HDD

Settings:
- ALL ON HIGH.
- Shadows ON..
- Reflections ON..

He gets 30+ FPS more everywhere in game. In zergs, WvW, big PvE events and Spvp.

I am running nothing in the back ground. I literally have only gw2 on the computer at the moment. He normally has LoL, music, TS and so on.

Could someone please enlighten me as to what may be the problem.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Going into Resource Monitor I notice that one core is running close to 100% (overall CPU usage 25-30%). The others are running about 20%.

Is this normal?

grab GPU-Z and verify that your 760 is linked at 16x version 3 while GW2 is running.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I downloaded GPU-Z and I can’t find what you mean.

On the CPU-Z program I found Link Width and Max Supported under Graphic Interface, both of these are at x16.

Is this what you mean?

Also, thanks for your help.

I have unparked my cores but I see zero difference. Maybe my cores were never parked in the first place? Also, my mate has never needed to do anything like this.

Just went through Device Manager and did a search for the latest driver versions it came back saying it was up to date.

If I put the game to max settings my CPU usage and Maximum Frequency drops.

Is this normal?

Well GW2 has had an erratic behavior with settings since ever.

But first, you’re running a z97 cpu in a z87 motherboard. Look for the latest bios from MB for the best compatibility. I also recommend to buy a new h97.

About the game, try turning Model limit and quality to medium or low. These two are the most critical settings and they put a lot of unnecessary stress into the cpu, making it bottlenecking the game.

Beyond that there’s not much more:
- Monitor everything of your pc, hwinfo is a nice tool, to see if everything work properly (temps, ghz, % usage…).
- Try older drivers. I’ve experienced lower fps with newer nvidia drivers. 344.11 is the exception.
- Play with setting one by one, and see which ones affect the most and reduce them as much as you desire. But I thing Model limit and quality will solve most of your problems.

Your wrong about the chipsets. 4*90K cpus are fully supported on the Z87 platforms. Some BIOS’s may need to be updated to reflect the newer CPU micro code, but they are supported and the OP does not need to buy a new motherboard.

I didn’t say he needs series 9 MB to make his cpu work, just suggested to get the latest bios. You’re putting something that it’s not intended to work with it, and newest bios will have the least issues.

OH I just noticed that you are running windows 8.1 and your buddy is running windows 7.

Yea I saw the EXACT same thing when I was running 8.1, when I moved back to 7 i regained my lost FPS. (and a few other performance gains too. Win8.1 is horrible, just horrible )

This is an OS level issue (could be as simple as transparency issues with the MetroUI, or something else that is held in GPU memory)

Has anyone else found that Win7 runs better than Win8.1?

GW2 uses mostly the CPU. As with other games, smooth FPS depends on single-core performances. However, this doesn’t explain why your 4790 would get worse performance than his 3770.

i dont think that OS makes big difference because of ive alredy tryed to find solution for fps issues but noone helps me. Ive got laptop asus n550jv windows 8.1 intel i7 2.4-3.2 ghz, intel graphics hd4600, nvidia 750m 2gb, 8gb ram. so game works better when i use hd4600 than 750m. hd4600 show 30 stable fps mid-high settings without fps drops. 750m can show 40-60 fps but every 2-5 sec fps drops from 40-60 to 10-15 especially in towns. dont want to talk about WvW. maybe problem can be because of HDD? ive got 5400 rpm. How to solve this problem?
