hey guys
i used to play the game with no problem @ all but since yesterday i had a very strange problem ,a massive lag so i checked my internet and it was fine then i noticed that the CPU usage is way too high while im in pve doing nothing and if i go to wvw it become unplayable at all the all cores reach above 90% or something .
i dont know is it maybe from the windows update or something ? i searched for my cpu update but its up to date

my specs:-
CPU:Intel Core i5-2500
GPU: Nvidia Geeforce 580
Ram: 16 gp @ 1333 Mhz

Does this only happen in Guild Wars 2? Is it consistent, and does it persist after a restart? Does it seem to occur only when you’re in certain areas or situations in the game?

When the problem is occurring, open up Task Manager (ctrl-alt-delete) and under Processes, check the CPU column for what process is eating up all of your CPU cycles. I’m just wondering if Guild Wars 2 itself is the culprit, or if its some other background program. A screenshot of that whole, expanded list might help.

thx for the reply

i checked the task manager and there was no other app is using cpu cycles ,i tried BATTLEFIELD 3 and yes it has the same problem so i guess its not from guild wars 2 only
find the picture attached plz :

If you don’t have V-Sync on, your GPU is going to be pushing out as many frames as it possibly can. That’s why it’ll be running at nearly full load.

CPU wise, this game is extremely CPU intensive. It’s going to push it.

yes the V-Sync Is off and i used to play the game with no problems….im facing it since 2 days only
the problem is not from the game as i noticed because i tried battlefield 3 and the same happened !

i guess its a virus or something

Since you think it is a virus I would go download Combofix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/dl/12/ It is a very strong virus/malware cleaner that’s always removed every virus I’ve ever gotten. You may want to run it a second time to make sure that it gets everything. Make sure you turn all anti-virus software completely off before you start the scan too.

Hey. I’ve been having the same issues as you, though not so extreme with the 99% cpu usage.

As of 2-3 days ago my framerate dropped from average 50-60 to 25-30. And loading times are ridiculously long now. I don’t know what happened, since I never touched my settings nor messed outside the game with my graphics. I just… happened.

Edit: grammar

GW2 is very CPU bound, even in solo PvE. My CPU reaches 90% easily while soloing as well.

BF3 on the other hand is very graphics heavy, much more than GW2. you’re hitting 99% with that GPU while CPU usage stays lower, it means your GPU is bottlenecking. I don’t know if you have decent framerate there but if you don’t then there could be an issue with your GPU.

Download GPU-Z, have a look at you Bus Interface and Core Clock Speed. They should be 2.0 16x and somewhere near 772 MHz.

Agreed that GPU loads tend to be very high, 99% or so is pretty normal, especially with Vsync off. Its nothing to be concerned about, especially in a game like Battlefield 3.

Its potentially normal to see CPU utilization at 100% in some workloads, but 100% in Guild Wars 2 is almost unheard of. I think even in CPU-crushing WvW zergs, I rarely go over 60% utilization. And that’s with my aging Core i5-750.

I’m glad to hear OP was able to single out a virus. That was going to be my next suggestion.
