I am out of town frequently for work. I am buying a laptop to take on the road. I probably cant afford a laptop that will allow me to play WvW, but I would like to be able to level chars, use the trading house etc.. while out of town. Goal is $600 or less. No idea if that’s feasible. I’ve never owned a laptop.

What are the minimum specs I can do this with? I’m fine with 30 fps leveling with dips into the teens for events.

From what I gather in another post, I’m better off to stick with an Intel Chip. Can I get by with an I5, and 8 g Ram, with integrated video? Which video processors should I look into?

i5 with 8g would be fine. Integrated, no. The game will require a dedicated gfx card. Intel for the CPU, nVidia for the GPU.

I would stay away from AMD. Their company is in the pits and they are pulling a lot of money out of the PC/Server market. Their are hanging on by mobile devices and the contracts to supply CPU/GPUs for console systems.

Either go with a referb or openbox to save money. I would perfer a referb over open box.

Also, I would stay away from Acer/Gateway/PackardBell/eMachines. They are all owned by the Acer Group and make crap products. By far, the majority of PCs I help people fix belong to that line.

Laptops are always more expensive than desktops since you must include build quality and portability. I recommend you increase your price range so you get a better, more reliable laptop.

If you get one of these, go for the first one. The second one is pretty bad.

Also keep in mind that they’re both massive- a 17.3" laptop is pretty big and heavy to carry around.

Also, apparently there was a deal on a Lenovo Y500 on slickdeals a couple days ago- SLI 650Ms with an i5, refurbished for $650, which is an absolute steal. Watching that site could lead to finding some decent stuff at nice prices.

That is very true. I used to carry around a 17" and it wasn’t as fun :P I have a 15.6" and that is better. However, my work laptop got upped to a 17" from a 14". I used to be able to drag both with me. Not as easy as it used to be.

If you’re fine with 30 FPS and a budget of 600 or less, then a any laptop with an intel i3 or i5 with Intel HD 4000 will do the trick if you just want to level on it. A few of my friends game on laptops with those processors and graphics and say at medium it looks and runs fine.
