Recently my mobo decided to move into the after life.

I am looking for suggestions on a motherboard/chip combo
that will run GW2 proper but not break the bank.

I was using a Biostar H55a+ with I7 cpu 2.80ghz. Still uncertain which
one is has gone bad but after ruling out hd, psu, vid card, ram I figured
I would just replace both.

I would be willing to take a step back in terms of performance as long as
the cost is reasonable and the combo will still run GW2 decently.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

MSI Mpower Z87 series board with i5 4670K and a reasonable air cooler (Hyper 212 Evo) if you ever want to overclock a bit. Will run GW2 fairly well.

Price might come up to $600 but it’s three very good components.

z87 board with a i5 4670K would give you the most bang for your buck, but personally Id go with the Asus hero board. its only $200 and offers almost everything its 500$ big brother (maximus extreme) has. Both together, out the door would be about $450.

Do you already have ram you can use from your Biostar H55?

Agreed with the suggestions above. If you’re tight on money you could get a little less expensive mobo, basically anything with Z87 chipset. I wouldn’t get the absolute cheapest one you could find tho and I have been for some reason favoring Asus motherboards and their cheapest one, Z87-K goes for only a little bit above $100 so that’s why I ended up getting that. There’s nothing wrong with a Z77 and 3570K CPU either if you happen to find them for a bargain, it’s only a little bit slower.

Thank you everyone for the input. I do have the ram 8gig so that will be the easy
part. The z87 with Hero appears to be the perfect fit both cost and performance wise. They are just within the budget. Ordering tonight and hope
to be back in action shortly.

Thanks again for the expertise.

your welcome.

your gonna love that board, it’s too sexy to only cost 200. that’s one of the cool things about asus though. they love their gamer customers and try not to overcharge them.

also I read great things about that 4way optimization, and.your gonna have the z87 uefi bios which I’m I tad jealous of. I’m stuck with the x79 uefi.
