Monitor Black Screen since patch on 25th
I had a similar occurrence for the first time today, but the screen remained black and I had to restart the client.
I’m running the same setup since game’s launch, no changes lately.
I get this a LOT in GW2. In event logs I get this message after it happens: “Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.”
But most of the time my whole system locks up and I have to hard reset it :/
Some games have problems with OCed cards (inc. ones OCed out of the box), but that is fixed by underclocking the card slightly. But nothing I’ve tried helps with GWs. I’ve tried a different power supply, stripping out hardware etc..

I have the exact same problem. I have an NVidia GeForce card and AMD processor both updated with drivers. The Geforce is about 100 dollars so it’s not a problem with hardware.
My occurrence is more similar to Marge’s in that is causes a black screen. It first only happened every 1-2 hours, then 30-60 minutes and now 10-25 minutes. It’s something to do with the latest patch. I liked your post so hopefully it will get more attention and this can be resolved faster.

You guys should be posting complete system specs and any crash logs if available too.
It’s the driver your using most likely. The last batch of nvidia drivers are known to be quite buggy and ive seen more people report the “driver stopped working” problem when using these drivers,in other games.
Suggest using 314.22 or 326.01.
Not necessarily, we may be looking at two different problems here. I’m running a legacy driver, the same one for last few years (thus normally I’m not even bothering listing it, but there, Radeon 4870 HD, driver version 8.771.0.0, Win7 32 bit, Pentium Dual-Core E5200, 4GB RAM (3,25 used due to 32 bit system), AsusP5QL Pro).
Problem appeared for the first time (in my case, yesterday), and for now, only once. There’s no errors, no crash. The screen: the world, interface disappears, only mouse cursor remains, and is responding. I think the environment sound is still heard too (birds, music etc, no interface sounds or my toon’s sounds), but nothing else. I dunno if I can be even more specific.
Edit: anyways, when this happens again, I’m going to try and see if my issues aren’t similar to this problem: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Network-Issue-Causing-Black-Screen
Now I remember I did had problems with connection at that time.

It seems this game doesn’t like Nvidia cards as well. There have been other black screen problems months ago as well.

I’m using 314.22 Nvidia driver with no problems here so try that. Other games I play have had similar issues with the newer drivers so I rolled back and had no further problems.

Yes but that is usually the cause of the nvidia driver.Always try a rollback or look at https://forums.geforce.com/ Driver sections to see wich drivers are or aren’t buggy.

Have you guys considered, or tried, deleting the local.dat file, located under my documents/guild wars 2?
It may or may not help, but it’s worth a shot if nothing else is working thus far.
I tried deleting the .dat file and it had no impact at all. After I downgraded my driver to 314.22 I was able to play a game for a few hours before I encountered my first crash. After I rebooted and tried to play a game again it started crashing every 8 minutes so I tried to upgrade to one of the latest beta drivers, which did not seem to improve the experience any more. I returned to the 314.22 drivers and I can again play for a few more hours until my screen blacks out. It seems that the people with GeForce 400 series are by far the most unstable out of the other graphic cards that are experiencing this.
