Q:
My computer - What the heck?
A:
I’m not sure if shopping on newegg would be way expensive for you based on the shipping costs, but that is a great place to go for your parts. One of the biggest costs is going to be your OS – Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit is about $100 right now on newegg, it may be cheaper elsewhere though. Just make that if you have to cut corners on hardware because of price, don’t do it on the CPU! Something to keep in mind too, based on what’s been said on the forums – getting a CPU with more than 4 cores gives less than expected performance.
It’s not even a laptop processor it’s a netbook processor designed to compete with Intel’s Atom series.
The integrated graphics portion of the chip, even though it’s called an HD 7310, it’s based on HD 5xxx GPU components and only a few, 80 cores Vs 800 on an HD 5770. It’s more like an underclocked HD 5450.
As for upgrading, BGA means it’s likely soldered onto the motherboard, all 413 “pins”, so upgrade means a motherboard swap and since we know nothing about the rest of your system, it’ll probably be easier to buy a brand new computer than overhaul the existing one.
RIP City of Heroes
Actually, I would highly advise finding the board you plan to purchase and buying at LEAST the motherboard from Amazon. If you get a board with bent cpu pins, NewEgg will NOT return it, Amazon will. Just a heads up regarding NewEgg’s horrible customer service regarding motherboards with bent cpu pins.

I take it ur from UK if ur using £’s so newegg is out of the question.
£400 is a good enough amount for an upgrade, but not a whole new system.
You got DDR3 RAM, so that’s good. U need to let us know if ur Case is ATX compatable, if so u got a case u can re-use so that’s good. Next, the PSU, chance are its a piece ofcrap but better safe to ask. Find out its make/model & wattage.
Does it have an optical drive (probably), What HDD’s is it using ? IDE (if its really old) or Sata? and how big are they 500GB ? 1 TB ?.
Once we know what u have that’s re usuable we can sugest upgrade paths. £400 isn’t enough for a whole rig, but should be enough for a Motherboard + CPU + GPU + PSU.

If u need a case and other components then we would have to lower the CPU and/or GPU.

This is false. I have returned CPU’s with Bent pins back to newegg quite often actually.
You have to supply images of the CPU’s Pins, the Packaging, and the shipping container to get the RMA. But they WILL do it.
This shows that the packaging is what bent the Pins and not user error.

My post was regarding motherboard returns to NewEgg, which is nothing new, NewEgg is known for their mobo return issues when bent pins play a role.
He’s from the UK anyway, no NewEgg xD

I’ve never had ANY issue with returning anything to Newegg, so I have to call BS on this one. I’m trying to figure out what PINS you are finding BENT? an LPGA socket doesn’t have any “pins” but the ball grid array socket can get damaged. I would suspect this damage is result of a “refurbished” or “open box” item, not a new one. I’ve purchased +50 full sets of system components from Newegg.com and NEVER gotten anything that was physically damaged. I’ve certainly gotten a number of memory sticks and a few other system components that were defective, but never damaged motherboard sockets or slots and certainly never any damaged processors (always use Intel). In no instance have I ever had anything but prompt service with getting defective items replaced.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Okay, let me just clarify.
I know more or less nothing. So basically my friend has recommended that I just get a new graphics card (he recommended one) and plug it in to the PCI port on my computer should it be compatible, and then get a new motherboard and processor and possibly a case should the need arise.
Thanks for all the help though, even if I didn’t understand much.
Buying a new computer is out of the question for me, and since my friend lives locally I think it’s easier. Overhauling this computer won’t be as much a problem as it would be if I weren’t replacing the motherboard for a compatible socket.

Another user from first link alone that posted:
I experienced the same issue with Newegg, where they accepted the RMA and then sent the board back for bent CPU pins
List goes on, then again, this is nothing new, and most people are aware of this, at least on the overclockers forums. The Egg even states themselves for motherboards and CPUs they will not accept bent pin returns calling it C.I.D.
Btw, LGA uses pins, which is what we use for our Intel boards. Those of us that have been doing this for as long as we have are well familiar though, luckily I am one of the few that never had bent pins on my own motherboard purchases through NewEgg, thankfully.

Yep, you just have to make sure you get something your setup can handle though. It really is just plug and play for a vid card, but your cpu won’t support faster cards though.
