My game will not launch
also i have deleted and tried to re-install and it just stays at 0KB and i have restarted my computer at least 5 times
A lot of us are having these issues. Open the file, right click on gw2.exe and run as admin, see if that works. If you are on Verizon Fios like a lot of us are, that also may be the problem
My game was working fine, then the update came out and it won’t load. I get the downloading screen and it loads really slowly before I get the message “Connection error(s) Retrying….” in red text at the bottom of the screen. I also have Fios internet, but I was playing on it fine before the update.
i’ll try thanks
you think it’s gonna get fixed and the administrator didn’t work
when is it gonna be fixed
guys they havnt fixed it yet when do you think they will fix it
Same here, I’ve been having the same exact problem for the past 2 days and I’ve had the game since it came out. I know of others in my guild that are playing right now because of TS but for some reason I still can’t get it to load.
I have the exact same problem, so don’t feel all alone there (and no, I’m not on Verizon).
I happened to be logged on GW2 when the message went out stating that the new build was available. I logged out to update right away and the downloader froze at 0KB without downloading anything at all. I first thought that the servers were just overwhelmed, so I closed out and ran the errands I needed to a little early.
When I got back, I tried once again. Same deal. I even left the downloader open for a few hours while I went about doing other things to no avail. I tried the “workarounds” posted on these forums to no success. I figured that it must have been that my file got corrupted somehow since I hadn’t seen any other people reporting quite the same issue. I uninstalled the game and tried from scratch—nothing.
I also noticed that if I close the downloader, I cannot get the process to end on my computer through Task Manager. If I try to start the installer again, I get an error message stating that another version of the program is already running. The only way for me to try again is to restart the computer.

It’s a disgrace at this point, playing GW since ‘06 and they still can’t get it together.
You guys do realize that this seems to be an issue with the ISP and not ANet, right? Regardless if Verizon is your carrier or not some of your data might pass through their systems to get to the ANet servers. As Gaile mentioned in her post, Verizon has not responded to them either…
It shouldn’t matter who the ISP is. I shouldn’t have to go into my computer and change a bunch of different things around just to get the game to work when it was working completely fine before the patch. 2 days so far of not being able to play, 2 days of people not being able to participate in the update, 2 days of new players not playing a game they just put a good sum of money down for. Things like this ruin the game for all; it’s just not right in my opinion.

Yes, I realize that is the case for most people having trouble downloading right now (and I still haven’t ruled it out for myself, I just haven’t had the time at any one point today to go digging too deeply as other things in life come first). That is why I stated that I had tried the workarounds mentioned already—VPN network and editing the hosts file with Notepad.
I am not personally accusing anybody of anything. I am simply adding my voice and particular issues to the mix.
All I am saying is that people shouldn’t be directing their rage toward ANet over an issue they have absolutely no control of.
im here in nj with verizon. happened to me last night. then happened again tonight right after i got the boot for a patch. very frustrating.
same issue. i was actually on 15m ago and when i finished my sky crystals, i tried to zone into wvw but the game froze and hasn’t started back up. tried the run as admin thing & restarted..not going to bother w/ reinstalling since that doesn’t seem to work for you guys..also have fios if that’s still considered being the “problem”
I’m on Comcast and I’ve been having the same problem since the update hit.
i understand you all but is there the option of waiting until its fixed or am i gonna have to go around for hours or even minutes to fix it
Was working fine after the initial update on Tuesday, it was working fine last night. I started the game this evening, it downloaded some data and stopped. I’m in the UK, using Sky – all other services appear to be fine – and it certainly seems to be a client issue. Any ideas?
Well, I solved the issue on my end (I think). It seems that somehow when attempting to download the 05/20 update, Windows got messed up and began refusing all administrative rights. I got suspicious when other program/update installations were not successfully completing on my Windows partition (though not always the case). The Linux partition showed no problems.
What in the end worked for me (well, the downloader is actually running, so I will know in a couple of hours for sure—since I uninstalled the game entirely, as I mentioned in my first post) was running System Repair to revert everything to a backup point prior to 05/20. I have no idea what caused the trouble in the first place (I scanned everything numerous times over for malware, adware, viruses, etc. and it came out clean as a whistle, apart from a handful of tracking cookies), but my computer seems happy once again.

well i use windows 8 and i was just asking if you think it will fix over time
not because i have windows 8 but you think it will eventually be fixed
Thinking about it, my last post was slightly incorrect. Windows did not exactly refuse all administrative rights, as I was able to mess around with and “save” changes to the hosts file, approve programs to make changes to the system, and whatnot. I guess to be more clear, what was happening on my end was that these administrative rights were having no real effect 95% of the time and installations were freezing up because they were still “waiting” on that confirmation—beginning from the moment I tried to install the 05/20 GW2 update. Still, my System Restore did the trick, it appears!
EDIT: To answer your question Wilson: I’m sure that the problem, given time, will be worked out if you are indeed suffering from the same ISP/routing problem that others are experiencing (though there’s no telling how long that might end up taking—ask Verizon, I guess). I mostly mentioned my own success in case anybody else was having problems that didn’t seem to originate from or be solved by what was already mentioned on this forum.

I don’t know if my problem is an isp issue or from aNet. In the morning I can log into gw2 with no issue. But in the evening the launcher pauses in the downloading portion with 0KB/s. Regardless how long I wait its stays like that or tells me connection lost. It has been this way for 2 days now. I was thinking it was aNets fault the first day maybe they had a server issue, but now i dont know. How can it be my isp when i can run it during the day.
system restore???
i have no clue what happened but its fixed for now at least
I am getting the same thing, in the morning I was able to get the download and to the login screen, and the other person was able to log in fine. This evening we are back to the download slowing down to 0kb, and stopping.
Glad to know I’m not the only one with this issue still sucks that you can’t log in Raven
Same issue here. I left it overnight and it logged in some time this morning. Trying now…no dice…..Sucks…..
Don’t know if this will help you guys but it helped me. Change your hosts file by adding 174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com to it. For those of you that dont know how. this link should help
http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-7-hosts-file/
I hope this helps guys
I did that, also there was a thing about using Google Public DNS instead, but both do not work for me.
Surprisingly, I was able to get on early today at 9:30 am est but it’s 8 pm now and I’m having the same problem as the past two days again. So it seems to be a recurring thing for a lot of us.
system restore???
For your information in case you ever need to know: If you go to the start menu and search for “System Restore,” you will find it. You just have to follow the steps in the wizard if it can find a day/time restore point. Basically, it resets your Window’s system files and settings to an earlier point in time, when you know they were working properly to potentially revert any changes that got made by accident—which seems to have been the case for me.
However, it sounds like your issue was probably the internet routing one that others have been reporting since you were able to get it working without changing anything on your end. I guess I was the odd man out with the Windows bug. Oh well, stuff happens—at least I was able to solve it. I hope your problem gets fully resolved soon, too!

This IS an Arenanet issue. NOT Verizon. I am able to play every other game with no issue what so ever. We should have to find fixes for this problem when Arenanet is responsible for providing good customer service. I don’t care who you want to blame. Just FIX the issue.
This is due to China coming online and ANet not being ready. I have no other connectivity problems or network speed problems to any other site. It’s not a DNS issue. I finally got the download to complete, but now it’s using 80% of my CPU time to display a blank box.
I can see it contacts 8 different servers, including cider (I’m on a Mac) and the authentication server. This isn’t a Verizon problem.
Even if there is some issue with Verizon, Anet needs to address it. I did not pay Verizon for the game and I do not buy gems from Verizon. It is great that Anet sent an email to Verizon, but really…an email? At least I called tech support.
I play on a MacBook Pro 15inch retina, and when I click on the Guild Wars 2 app, it appears in the dock, but nothing opens up. No log-in window, no updates, nothing.
I’ve tried deleting the GW2 folder from app support in the library.
I’ve tried repairing the gw2.exe file.
PLEASE HELP!

Really?
By all means, please explain why I (and numerous others) are able to play without any problems.
