all battleping does is route the connection through a specific vpn bypassing a bunch of nodes.

There’s nothing ANET can do if there are congested and/or faulty nodes between you and their servers.

What does Battleping do?
Battleping’s goal is to lower your Ping or help stabalize your connecton for the game you are playing.

We provide a connection to our servers which then connects you to your game.
It can provide faster or more stable routing options. The result is a lower latency and so a more enjoyable and rewarding game experience.

you should file complaints with your isp tha their DNS and routing path are polluted.

Many people with many isp have lags… You think several routing paths have same problems starts at the same time?

P.S. Forgot one thing… I have no losses (less than 1 percent)… I have 54 avg ping, and 80/40Mbit/sec internet… And I have lags…

Let me make it clearer to you then,

If the problem was at Anets end, you would be seeing major lag even with Battleping, because you would still end up being connected to their network in the end.

As for your question, External Links are often high bandwidth fiber (or less often, copper) provided as whole sale for any ISP wishing to use them.

Maintenance by one provider can at times cause significant detours to the WAN route between your computer and the content host you are connecting to.

A major problem is the use of DNS Injection to maliciously pollute the dns pool and cause excessive rerouting.

Its looking to me like there is a DNS issue in the USA atm, as im getting higher latency via google dns than i am via local and opendns

I don t know what s my ISP, anyway i tryed battleping, it works but sometimes when i try login i have some error connections :S

Seems i found a fix for my lag issues that started on the 15th i am on Crystal Desert. I was getting lag 1-5 seconds where i couldn’t move and would just get killing in pvp or pve. I checked my latency usually was 50-100 and would hit 250, this in my opinion was good connection so didn’t know why i was getting said lag. So what i did to fix it was change my DNS to a Google one and so far i haven’t gotten any lag. This is a website that would show you how to change your DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using#reverting I have done pvp and pve today and i haven’t ran into any lag as of yet i hope this will help everyone

I’ve tried battleping, doesn’t help. I’ve tried the thing Raider posted above, doesn’t help either. Sometimes the game just lags no matter what, other times it’s running just fine. Ping is always steady and low. One spvp server may run perfectly, the another one lags like hell.

I can’t see what else I can do here on my end to try and sort this out.

With Battleping for the first time was practically no lag, but now again I have tons of freezes for 4-10sec.
Upd: Tried Raider’s advice + battleping. For now, lags are gone, hope it will last long.

Have contstant lag issues, Bping did nothing, and got no problem what so ever in other games.
Getting a bit frustrating that 8 out of 10 times I die its due to lag, either I press the heal skill over and over and it just flashes but nothing happens, or all the mobs run off to where the server think I (faaar away from the actual fight) and kill me while I cant touch them.

Wrote my isp, but it’s hopeless, I think… So sad…

The lag I am experiencing occurs after a few minutes, after entering the game. At first it works fine, then it starts. Small intervals of slowmotion, about three times in a second. SPvP always has this, and before I could be sure that it was the place I could go, if I wanted to play lag free. Now it is basically unplayable.

This all started with the introduction of “The lost shores”.

I have 3-15 second lags in pvp every evening during the day its okay when its prime time I cant play spvp with my team and its ruining our game experience. It started 1 and 1/2 week ago. Lagging in pve aswell. I dont know what happened but you should really fix this or you will lose even more players. I checked my ping to gw2 servers and google and after 15 minutes I had 1% packet loss so its not my network connection i guess.

FIX THIS QUICKLY

Over a period of 3-4 weeks i have experienced some minor lag problems ONLY in gw2.
I have been playing with a 5 man lvling team, and complained alittle about this, while they got no problems at all.
When i think about it, it probaly started after The lost shores.
I can play BF3 without probs.
My connection is 100/100 4 ms, when i test on speedtest.net. I have tryed my ISP DNS, google dns, via router, directly into my pc and with battleping.com. Nothing helps!.
It start 10-30 seconds after i enter gw2.
lags between 0.5 to 30 seconds.
It’s so bad now, i CAN’T and WON’T play. I die whenever i try do anything.

I have just updated ethernet drivers, intel drivers and my graphics driver is up-to-date to. NOTHING helps!.

Any other fixes for this?

Just went ahead and jumped into GW1 – it lags in there as well, classic rubberbanding. Are the servers for GW1 and GW2 even located at the same place, or?

do you have cable? my friends who also play gw2 aren’t on cable but t-com adsl have no problem, but my friend and I have cable, and have huge lag, and disconnect.
I am from Croatia and server Gandara.

I played on Gunnars Hold and had horrible lag. Transferred to North American (Yaks) server two weeks ago and have no problem with lag ever since. Funny thing is I play from Europe.

Same game, different servers; lag on one and no lag on other. No way that’s my ISPs fault.

Funny, yesterday I was using BattlePing and guess what, I did notice a little lag (not as bad as I had before but still).

Seems not to be my connection, even people that had no lag before complained yesterday about it in my guild.

Impossible conclusion, the servers aren’t all necessarily hosted in the same location.

Have been getting heavy lag starting from when the Lost Shores launched. Had a good week without lag and then it came back with the Wintersday patch. I logged into the original Guild Wars too, and it seems I’m also getting heavy lag there. I don’t seem to be having any issues with other online games though.

Sounds like you are on an ADSL RIM, that happens to be congested.

I got 100/10 fibre connection (actually 100/100 right now, courtesy of my ISP who is trying everything at their end to help me with this).
Other games play just fine, and we play a lot of them in my home – BF3, Vanguard, COD, TF and many, many others. Every single game works perfect when it comes to network latency. GW2 used to work perfect as well, but not anymore.

Just wanted to chip in, maybe this will help someone else as well, for me it was the router that caused the lag. Once I removed it from the equation everything is finally running smoothly, no lag at all

Is there any know reason to all this lag? I played the game since release and never experienced any lag at all. Last week it gone from perfect to unplayable. I have tried closing all programs in background, reinstalling game, reseting router and trying new settings and also tried with an other router. Allays get the same lag.
It seams to be lagging when using skills, if im just walking around i have no lag, but as soon as i start using skills PVE or WvW or Spvp I start getting lag or more of “Freezes”. The game freezes for 1-3 seconds the hole world is standing still but i can still move and use the chat and talk to guild and friend.

I live in Sweden and play on Far Shiverpeaks .

Would be nice with a comment from Anet, if there is a know problem or just “we dont have any known problem”…. Anything please.

I read somewhere in the forums that GW requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112, 6600 to be open or whatever. After doing that, it pretty much eliminated the colossal lag+error 7’s I was getting.

Yeah this seems to worked for a bit but yesterday 20th got a bit of lag not much to worry about or complain about. Then today 21 did a Shatterer and was bad lag but though maybe a lot doing it so just did some solo killing and was still getting lag 1-2s ms seems find running at maybe 100ms tops is 250 but isn’t there for long less than a second. So yeah just wanted to give a heads up in idk what my lag seems to come from in i tried to do a couple of things from wired DNS, wireless, hardwired to modem and nothing seems to fix it. My opinion its the server itself can’t handle the amount of people on it and people just get lag, in i seem not to have lag in PVP or PVE (just did trixx today and didn’t have any). So yeah idk what else i can do to fix my problem, i did all that i can think of

Okay, so I decided to come back and give another try for Guild Wars 2 but the game is just unplayable right now. For example I try to attack some monsters and it takes 1-5 seconds before anything happens. Sometimes I even disconnect from the server.

However, I’m not sure what it causing this. I can play other online games, like BF3 or Eve Online just fine, without lag, but GW2 is just unplayable. I guess I’ll leave this game alone once again.

So i had huge lag, and I have changed my server and it did not help. Then I reset the router, and made this:

You can execute switches directly from your Guild Wars 2 shortcut:

Right click on your Guild Wars 2 shortcut and select ‘Properties’.
In the ‘Target Area’ field you will see the location of your Guild Wars 2 executable file:

Write the desired command line arguments after the quote marks, each beginning with a space:
“…\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair

and it helped me ,it fixed 18 files,now works perfectly I even started playing PvP,
I just wanted to share may help someone else.

@Mada Fa wait for prime time and then you will see if its fixed for you because many of us dont have problems during the day. Lagspikes appear at prime time (evening).

Same issue here. Tried the -repair , battleping and change DNS solutions. Nothing worked… GW2 is of course, my ONLY game to do that.
I want to underline the fact that this problem progressively appeared in more and more people. Do you seriously think that all of a sudden, recently, many ISP all over the world had the same switch-router-whatever problem? Wake-up ANET, this issue is somehow related to you!
Of course im not talking about CPU bottleneck issues that creates massive drop of FPS on machines which would run Skyrim with full details without any problem, but thats another story…

get to the end of a very long story mode and I can tell that its laggin so I stop moving next min I know a warning comes up saying going out of area to turn back then get kicked kitten DIDNT EVEN MOVE so frustrating ive left since then…… pretty hard to defend you guys when some parts of the game is not playable this needs a major fix asap or you guys will just be loosing more players.

Fault is definetly on their site but it is easier to say that it is our problem so thay dont have to solve it :-D
I never had any problem in any online game and i played even more demanding games than GW 2. My lattence, ping…..was ever as low as it can be. But than i start to play this and have sometimes even 30 sec lags? Is this some kind of joke? :-D My internet conection did not even break (or fall, dont know how to call it in english) in 2 years i have it. Not even for few seconds …In two years. No this is not problem of my conection.

After 1 month of silence , players are desperate . We have buy a game but we cannot playing . We have a good computer , a connexion ADSL , and a key alright . We haven’t the problem with internet or other game …

The assistance of Anet send all player to the FAI assistance fai is (Orange, Free and SFR) . The FAI say the problem is not in her routage. Some players think it’s Cogent .

Players have found temporary solutions :
-VPN but not for all and not very security and we don’t want payed for playing
-Migrate on a US serveurs but the jetlag and the language are very restrictive for french people
-Wait and see but since 1 month ; we waiting and waiting and waiting … and nothing !!!
-Stop this game . Myself , i loved this game but it’s impossible to play.
- We think go to see an association to defense of customers because the time passed and nothing . We have payed this game and we want play because we have respect the contract and nothing in CGU/CGV specifie the necessity to take VPN or the game is incompatible with some french FAI

I hope find here a communication with Anet and a solution or an explaining . We need help of Anet . We have very patient but stop to ignore the French and the EU player and the situation please .

Cursed Shore, Sparkfly Fen, Harathi Hinterlands maps on Tarnished Coast server are experiencing some major connection timeouts frequently, often in the middle of events. I live on the upper east coast of the US and have Verizon Fios. No other games even come close to these amounts of latency and connectivity issues. It’s only GW2. This all started happening a couple days ago. Half the game world is unplayable right now.
