Hey everyone! As the topic says, when I play GW2, my Nvidia display driver will randomly crash. Sometimes it won’t happen for several hours. Other times, it happens within a few minutes of starting up the game. It occurs sporadically, and when they do occur, the screen goes black for a few seconds before reverting back to normal. This can happen several times in quick succession, and can lead to GW2 becoming completely unresponsive, forcing me to exit out and reconnect.

This is becoming a real hassle, as it has happened in dungeons and during world boss events, making it impossible to claim the rewards at the end.

My GFX card is a GTX 260M. It’s pretty old, but I can play games like Far Cry 3, Skyrim, and Dishonored just fine. In fact, GW2 is the only game that has ever had this issue. The GPU temperature never exceeds 75 C, so I can’t imagine overheating being the problem. I have also ran several display driver versions, including 340.43, 337.88, and an earlier version. However, the same problem occurs for all of these drivers.

Do any of you have any advice as to what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

Let’s start with the basics:

o Make sure V-Sync is turned off (kind of a CRT relic anyway)

o Update Flash Player, Shockwave and Java (I know. Do it anyway.)

o Use 337.88 drivers with a Clean install (Might have to use a driver cleaner)

o Set drivers to “Let the 3D application decide” (tweak it after your system is stable)

o Never set FXAA on in the drivers (Kills the frame rates)

Wait. Driver crash should cause BLUE SCREEN → system reboot!
Is it something new?

actually this sounds like a power supply issue. Gw2 stresses systems differently than other software. Cross loads on a psu with group regulated rails can cause an amp or voltage dip in gpu power rails which would send the gpu into a lower power “safe mode” with a driver restart. The on screen effects are almost identical to what you are describing.

Considering you are using a 260m i assume this is an older laptop. This would make sense as heat and age can degrade the psu and other computer components over time.

There is also a “soft” version of a driver crash that is more on application level, where you get a message that the driver was resetted due to an error.

Since i tried the latest AMD Beta Drivers i also have this again from time to time.
However the actual Version at least recovers very fast while the last time i had
a driver version with that problem the screen turned into a low color resolution
after that.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
