Q:
PC, Mac and Linux?
We can all agree with all the other issues ironed out all we need now is Linux version.
It runs on Linux but poorly.
I would love to see a little attention given to the Linux version.
i wish this too, RDL. None of game companies cant see player numbers behind Linux. If they release it, just imagine..
If GW2 gets onto GNU/linux without using wine I will switch to GNU/linux 24/7. Valve is doing it. Why aren’t you?
Also I wanted to point out the a MAC is a PC.

Isn’t Apple marketing wonderful.

Aye, back in the days I used to be on Linux 24/7 and played Return to Castle Wolfenstein (native), Half-Life (and mods), Quake * (native) and a few others. Also played City of Heroes and a few Call of Duty games under Wine with very minor issues. Things are slowly getting better but new release games will usually have issues.
And yeah a Mac these days is basically an Intel system, I miss the old PowerPC days but it’s obviously cheaper for Apple to distribute Macs with PC components.

A mac is a PC.

Essentially every component inside a mac is a PC component. It’s been that way FOREVER.
I would definitely like to see a Linux version. I tri-boot my Mac. On Windows I can only run GW2 on lowest settings and I am below the system requirements for the Mac OS version. I would like to have another option. Beyond that I am not fond of the newest Windows or Mac operating systems (Mountain Lion, Windows 8 ), so in the future (and I intend to be playing GW2 for awhile) I am likely to be primarily using Linux, maybe dual-booting Windows for work if absolutely necessary.
Is there any plan for Linux version of the game?
You have your title wrong. It should be “Linux, Mac & Windows” alphabetically ordered and they’re all operating systems.
Windows is not equal to “PC”.
A PC can run Linux, Mac and Windows.
On Topic
The Mac client isn’t even native and they’ve not announced any terms of being supportive for helping out the client working for Linux.
the mac is a toy, not a pc.
I miss Loki Games. (I’m dating myself, aren’t I?)
That having been said I’m hopeful with Humble Bundle releasing Linux native binaries and Steam taking off that we’ll see a lot more game companies give it a try.
I wish more people understood why so many game dev’s hate the idea of trying to support linux.
1. no stable driver abi/api, drivers tied directly to kernal, even minor kernal changes/updates can break drivers, this is a nightmare for game developers.
2. every linux distro has a different set of preinstalled software and they all have diferent versions of that software(dependencies)…this is another royal pain for support tech’s.
3. No Equivlant of DirectX, there is no unified package that matches direct 3d, direct sound, direct input, direct draw, exct, even on the audio support front alone its a mess….to many audio frameworks to deal with….
4. linux users tend to get nasty and demanding far more then Windows and Mac users when they dont get the support they feel they are entitled to….(i have seen this many times…..its sad but the entitlement is deeply rooted in the linux community)
i could list more, but, sufice to say, I cant blame Game developers for not wanting to deal with linux support or creating native Linux versions of their apps…..
On windows and OSX you can be sure every user has a minimum set of software….linux….uggg……
the closest hope you have of getting a *nix OS supported is if more people pickup and start working to advance BSD, its got all the things Linux lacks, including a far more reasonable community
PCP&C 1200watt TC, Crosshair V F-Z, Sapphire 290x
If you target OpenGL and OpenAL-SW you have video and sound covered under most drivers (short for intel graphics prior to the hd1000)
Input api’s…. is a disaster
