Patch stuck; 1 file remaining, 0kb/s
“The Fix:
Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)
Add this line at the bottom: 174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
Save the file. If Notepad prompts you to save as a new file, you need to start over and run Notepad as administrator."After the above steps, I started the client in Administrator mode, didn’t expect it to work but it did! Happy Wintersday!
what exactly does ‘start over and run notepad as administrator’ mean?
To run notepad as an administrator, search your start menu for notepad, then right click it and select run as administrator. This only applies to Windows Vista and later.
Modifying your hosts file is a workaround. You shouldn’t leave it like that as you may experience the same problem but with that server instead.
Before using the hosts file workaround, open a command prompt (search the start menu for cmd) and enter the command:
ipconfig /flushdns
If that doesn’t help, try using:
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
Run notepad as administrator and then open the file. You can then edit it and it’ll save as that file. However, I did this, and it did not fix the issue for me. I flushed my DNS cache, too. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Edit: I had tried the proxy DNS before, and tried again using google’s. Still no go.
Edit2: Should’ve read your post more carefully, Healix. I undid the hosts file edit, and then it worked. Thanks for the help.

I am also having the same problem. I tried the above work around and it did not work for me. I’ve never had a problem downloading updates before tonight’s patch.
Edit: Left it to its slow download and finally finished. Took 1 hour and 20 minutes.

I’ve flushed the dns using cmd, and changed the dns provider to google’s, still stuck.
The client flashes when it gets to 27MB downloaded, and the download speed slows down to 0 kb/s. I looks like the client is disconnecting itself somehow, anyone got other ideas to fix? I tried the modifying the host as well, it did not work.
I am having similar issues; can’t download the patch.
DL’s @ like 4kbps, then goes to 0, then says “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”
It worked for me also! Thanks guys!
same here, i tried to disable firewalls and add the line in notepad and neither worked.
edit: i just opened gw2 and my download speeds returned to normal. maybe it was just on anet’s side?

Yeah I added the line; no fix. Must be because of my spybot.
I’ve tried everything above and still having issues.
I’ve tried everything above and still having issues.
same here, gg looks like it’s time to quit the game…
I found another fix.
1. Close the Gw2.exe.
2. Install and run spotflux.
3. Executing Gw2.exe complete the remaining downloads.
4. Quit spotflux running.
5. Rerun the Gw2.exe to login. And games
Spotflux has a 3 day free trial… so this might be a one-time fix. Hope this helped… although rather disappointed I had to go through that pain to fix it.
Tried it all, still no luck. It’s a darn shame.
Yeah i got this same kitten yesterday with the patch and the patch prior to that one. Never happened before, tried the fixes – none have worked. Only reopening and closing the client when it stalls (closing it by Task Manager) finally gets it to work, but its not fluid and mostly by luck it seems like. kittening dumb.

Bump, having the same issue. Workarounds shouldn’t be necessary. Please sort this out Anet…
Had this issue with a previous patch a few weeks ago and again tonight.
I had tried using the following methods/approaches to fix:
– Google DNS
– Spotflux,
– Host file addition
– Removing all files in AppData / GW2 directory
– Re-downloading / re-installing
None of the above worked.
Tonight, I just kept closing & restarting the launcher and it eventually clicked over and I’m in now.
Saw in the other thread that there were a few other Australians – particularly with the Optus network that had the same problem.
Regardless, for anyone else experiencing the issue – just keep closing / restarting the launcher when it gets to 0KB/s.
