Performance issues, help !
And now I confirm that FPS issues are still here. Sometimes drop to 1 and causes the game to freeze or crash.
I have the same video card and a similar CPU; I run just fine. Most likely either power being limited (laptop set on Power Saving vs High Performance) or a Temperature issue.
I would recommend running http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html while you play and watch/record the temps. You should rarely go above 70. Normally I am very stable in the high 50s to low 60s.
Also, if the game crashed; can you attach the crash report. It should be
%APPDATA%\Guild Wars 2\ArenaNet.log
Xystus Furtim – Human Theif
Server: Stormbluff Ilse
Temps are normal and power isn’t the problem.
I think I know what the problem is. It’s on the GPU. Need to run some tests.
Okay, problem is in the GPU, but it is a software related issue.
My laptop’s GPU actually broke (7 months old laptop LoL) 2 weeks ago and it came couple of days ago from the guarantee repair shop (dunno the correct term in english). They said they tested that it works and I took their word for it. Well turns out it doesn’t work as it should so checked with them again. They are 100% sure hardware wise laptop is cool.
However after talking with MSI tech support + I did every possible thing a user can do, installing drivers from scratch and even did a full reset for my laptop to the factory settings and did again clean driver install etc and still the GPU isn’t working as intended.
So conclusion is that GPU software wise isn’t working as intended.
So I do believe that GW2 should by all means run smooth with my laptop should the GPU software work as it should. Doubt they can restore this laptop to functional because I did everything to fix this, even the MSI tec support has nothing for me and if the hardware is fine….
Could end up so they have to just ship me a new laptop. Either that or they manage to make this piece of….mud to work.
So for other NVIDIA users, it might be that the problems (FPS / black screens) happends only because the software simply doesn’t work as intended. However all my GPU problems are more or less present in other games, not just GW2.
Should you have these problems with other games out of no where I suggest do a clean driver install, NVIDIA GeForce Expirience has the option of using ‘’do a clean install’‘, this way you minimize chance of corruption. And corrupted drivers are a pain because there is a chance it will not go away. Aka updating ’’driver 1’’ to ’’2’’ get’s corrupted, and when u get ‘’driver 3 update’’ the corruption is still there and causes X amount of problems in the long run.
Try re-installing ur GPU drivers without installing Geforce experiance, 3d drivers, or sound drivers..bassicaly install JUST the graphics drivers.
The extra programs/drivers can somtimes cause problems, and tbh u dont need them anyway.

If you do install Geforce experience you may want to go into your Windows Services and disable the Nvidia Streaming service for the shield device, unless of course you have a shield device. I don’t know why that is enabled every time they do an update…
I’ve installed once drivers without nvidia expirience, didn’t make a difference.

And this is done how ? Never heard about this..
Here is a generic overview on turning services off Link
Don’t disable any services you aren’t sure about. The nvidia streamer service is safe to disable if you do not own a Shield gaming device.
