Poor performance with GTX 690
Turning bug with maxed shadows. Lower shadows a bit should fix it until a patch does.
Running PCI-E 16X 2.0 or 3.0?
GTX 6GB Titan@1160Mhz
3007WFP@2560x16000
Ahh that seems to have fixed my turning problem mostly.
I’m running PCI-E 2.0, but from looking at GTX 690 reviews I can see that the performance difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is negligible.
Still averaging pretty low for a GTX 690. I just double checked my GPU usage and it wouldn’t go up to 90% on either card, one of them was mostly at around 50%. My CPU usage is only at like 35% so I don’t really think it’s a bottleneck.
After playing for a bit with ultra shadows off, I am now getting 120+fps in some areas and about 35fps in others. I’ve only done PVE so far and I’ve heard that WvW is much worse than PVE for fps. This seems to be the norm for a lot of people. I guess I’ll have to wait for patches like everyone else.
I think in your case nvidia just has not kept up on driver support for gw2 as amd has. Which is funny because its normally the opposite way around. The Gtx690 should be right up there if not more powerful in real world fps in games than my two 7970’s. I beleive its just a driver issue at this point. The game just came out so I wouldnt expect for you to continue having fps issues with your setup as patches are released and drivers are updated.

I have a feeling the 690 is having some extra issues as well. My room mate is running a 670 overclocked with ultra shadows and pretty consistently gets 40 – 60 with no camera turning lag.
I have heard of games not seeing the second gpu in the gtx690 because both gpus are on one pcb, but I cant confirm nor deny that may be your problem.

Ah I just reread and you did confirm that SLI is working.

Not sure why 690 is dropping fps so hard. It definitely shouldn’t be. My 660TI’s in Sli work perfectly. I took a short clip in the Norn starting area testing Sli.

Hi
I am also having this issue with the GTX 690 my PC specs are as follows:
Water-cooled CPU I7 960 @ 3.2GHz (Stock)
Gigabyte G1.Sniper
Corsair Vengeance RAM 24GB 9-9-9-24 1600MHz
2 x Corsair Force GT F120GB – Setup in Raid-0 (Stripe) [OS]
2 x Intel 330 80GB – Setup in Raid-0 (Stripe) [Program Data]
1 TB Samsung Spinpoint [Personal Data/Storage]
Not forgetting my USB 3 Keyboard for fast wasd response times
Hi there,
Same issue here =(
Intel i7-3770k @ 4.4GHz
Asus Sabertooth Z77
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 9-9-9-24 1600MHz
Gainward GTX690
GW2 installed on a Corsair Force GT 120GB
(aaaand not to forget my 6 year old USB 2 standard Keyboard )
FPS won’t exceed numbers of 50-60, and there are massive FPS drops.
Already tried all recent drivers. HELP!

what program are you useing to display ur fps, load etc? id much rather use that then keep tabbing out to see gpu z lol
I’m using a 670 but getting similar results. It’s playable, but nowhere near as fast as you’d expect from cards like this.
I rolled back to 304.79 drivers since the 306.02 beta drivers actually performed -worse- than the older driver, considerably in some places, as well as showing graphical corruption in certain areas that doesn’t occur on the older driver. It’s a fairly steady 50-60fps on the older driver and 40-50 on the newer with large dips. The game was making me nauseous on the newer beta driver but plays fine on the older one.
Bottom line the new driver, in my experience, isn’t ready to go and I’d recommend rolling back. It isn’t perfect since the performance still isn’t up to snuff, but it does show that the problem is likely driver related in the first place and it’s going to take a decent working driver update from Nvidia to really correct it.
I have poor performance issues as well with GW2 and my gtx 690. Disappointing because its such a great game. My system specs are below. I have the 306.02 drivers. Clean install.

Game is currently having issues with SLI scaling on 600 series cards.

This is the response I got on the issue from an Nvidia rep over at Guru3D. He suggested I overclock my CPU. My CPU is already overclocked to 4.8GHZ and negative SLI scaling still happens. If you follow the link to the driver feedback page you will see many people are having issues.
All we can do is sit and wait.
EDIT: So try running on a single GPU for a bit. It might help.

MSI Afterburner does this. EVGA has one for their cards as well.
there is definitely something wrong, I have GTX 460s in SLI running a 5700×1280 display over 3 monitors, and in high quality and its smooth. your 690 should not have a problem
just to add I am using the Beta Driver 306.02, I did have problems with the certified driver

I am running with a 660ti overclocked. I know what you mean by turning lag. I get it on the first bout of turning after entering a zone. The way I figure it is it takes the first time seeing an area to load it into video memory. After turning and moving about in a new area, I get no more turning lag.
So when you enter new areas, try just turning around and looking at everything. Then check if that helps the lag go away.
Same problem, one of the patches introduced this bug as before I was running at around 45-70FPS without any problems, and I have a similar system to you guys, right now I’m trying the beta driver 306.02 to see if that fixes the problem.
Get it taken down -
Do whatever it takes if you care about this game -
I have a gtx 670 and it generally runs pretty well on everything max (except I have it on native instead of super sampling). I maintain 60 frames in most places (vertical sync on), and in heavy fights it will drop to 40s or 50s. In huge fights it drops to high 20s or 30s. In some areas I will notice that I cannot maintain the 60 frames very well and have a lot of turn camera lag. Lions arch is horrible for me and I have no idea why.
GoF Commander
Issue replicated here as well
GTX670 in SLI mode, using the latest beta drivers 306.02. Prior to a recent patch i was generaly having more than adequate performance, even WvWvW with the zergs infront of me i averaged around 45-60 fps.
Now in the weekend i have been getting severe framerate issues as low as 20 fps while standing still looking at a wall. Something was changed during the patch which has affected the frame rate.
After the countless threads, including the one with official respose (now merged with the “Crashing” thread for no good reason), it’s safe to say that in the majority of cases, those of us with kepler cards, SLI, or both are experiencing less than optimal performance. I’ve posted specs in the other thread to help out, but I thought I’d add in here that;
Anyone with 600 series cards in SLI or a 690 should be getting well over 70 fps at 1080p. So although 40ish is playable, it’s clear there’s still something wrong.
What I’ve noticed, is that, on a 680, when I turn my camera and the fps dips, the power draw acts up. Like literally, my lights flicker when I turn the camera. No other game does that on maxed out settings….
I have 680GTX with the newest beta nvidia drivers and I’m seeing the same things you guys are! i think i’ll revert back to a few driver version b4 and test.

Yup. This is what I’ve been trying to inform people about every time I see thread involving low performance on 600 series card.
Arena net acknowledges a problem with Nvidia GPUs in the crashing thread, but they don’t specify it being related to the 600 series cards and performance.

WvW at any given time = 12-75 fps.
During 3 way battles for Stonemist in lord room = 9-31 Fps + Skil lag + culling,
(unable to cast any skills at all) unplayable at this point.
During the Wintersday event in LA = 27-42 Fps.
LA with no event = 48-82 Fps.
Outside CoF Dungeon 186 -250+ Fps.
Inside CoF by the Armor Repair anvil = 24-37 Fps, rest of dungeon = 58-89 Fps.
CoF seems to get a lot of Lag & Disconnects, all tho i personally don’t suffer that much
from it there.

no point being there with DR/RNG Monsters.
Frostgorge Sound roaming & before Jormag = 102-141 Fps.
During Jormag event = 17-38 Fps. + Skill Lag + culling.
AC dungeon Exp = 155-233 Fps.
Most Zones before large scale events are 59-120 Fps.
During Most Events 50-80 Fps.
Fast Camera Turning at random times in any zone can break fps = 1-12 fps
this mostly happens In LA & WvW.
I Still get DC,Lag,Errors,Crashes of all kinds including the Low Ram Crash.
M-map = 150-230 Fps.
GW1 Max settings runs at 400-800+ Fps. at any time.
DayZ Max/Ultra settings runs at 88-135 Fps. at any time.
The problem is the game itself is not Nvidia or AMD, the crossfire/SLI scalling is working 100%, But the cards will remain in idle cuz ur CPU cannot keep up, If the CPU cannot feed them then the cards won’t imporve ur performance is simple as that. Anything above a gtx 660ti is overkill for GW2 because there is no CPU capable of keep up, and don’t fool yourself thinking LGA 2011 will solve that, cuz in this game a 200$ i5 2500k performs as well as the 1000$ i7 3960x it all comes to the single thread capabilities of the CPU, more cores/threads mean nothing to this game.
Don’t compare to other games and plaese stop complaining to Nvidia/AMD for low performace issues cuz there is nothing they can possibly do about it, it is all on Arenanet side.
AMD CPUs performs even a little worst than sandy/Ivy, Arenanet just didn’t tested the game enough, it all comes to a big time desing flaw of their graphics engine, probably when they realized the game performing horrible (during beta) there was nothing the could posibly do about it. So a fix for this could take years (if ever gets fixed), they would have to rewrite the whole game using a new engine capable of muticore render the game (which is not trivial only a few engines on the market do this) basically.

Its a 6xx series glitch. My 570’s scale almost perfectly. GW2 is not the only game that this happens on. I’ve seen similar reports on Boarderlands2 forums.
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.
i7-2600K/8G/GTX570SLI/WIN7/Stereoscopic_3D
570 scale better cus they are way slower, 690 bottleneck the CPU much more, during CPU heavy situations u just won’t see any improvment using a 690 over a 550ti, only if u run 3 monitor or 3D setting u can actually get some juice from high end SLI in GW2, other than that is just overkill for such a CPU bounded game. 600 series are by far better then 500 in everything, performance, memory respose times, compatibility, way lower temps and power consumption.
But again in GW2 u can expect FPS drops no matter how high end ur GPU config is, it won’t help a single FPS during those frame drops. U will get very high FPS normally during PVE, but as soon u get into some CPU taxing situtaion those FPS will drop to 30 or bellow no matter what.

Heres My theory On why the game is the way it is.
Anet management or NCsoft wanted the game to be ready to port to consoles, that explains the 3 heavy threads, the xbox360(and possibly the 720) use powerpc tricore cpu’s, and the 360’s video specs are dx9 with some minor dx10 features, (x1900mixed with a few 2900 features) this explains why the games only got 3 critical threads, rather then 4 or more, they where hoping to port it to console for a big payoff when console hotdogs bought it at full price for the next 6 years….but, due to how heavy those threads are, the consoles really cant handle it, so……..it didnt happen.
so dx9 and 3 critical threads main reason was likely due to console porting, the other reason was somebody saw $.$ at selling the game to XP users whos systems enlarge cant even run the game at an acceptable level….
this isnt amd or nvidia or intel’s fault, its all down to Anet making some bad choices in the dev process, now they have to go back to source and try and break up/optimize those horribly heavy threads that are causing this.
if any of those threads hits a perf wall, it drags the whole game down with it, the dev’s have said this…..that wall can be for an instant to short a time for most monitoring software(like tas manager) to record/display, but its enough to hold the game to the poor perf levels we are seeing.
my crossfire works fine in this game, and I have seen similar results with SLI systems friends have……its just very hard to keep a decent framerate in this game…….
I know anet are working on it, I just got a feeling they need more dev’s, and could use another team of dev’s dedicated to just this problem and perhaps adding dx11 support(that could fix some of the problems if done correctly)
PCP&C 1200watt TC, Crosshair V F-Z, Sapphire 290x
I don’t really see they implementing full dx11 compatibility, since well, is rewriting the game pretty much, just not gonna happen, may be when they launch a paid expansion or something like that to try hook up some players who left the game due poor performance, other than that i see very unlikelly the FPS problems getting solved soon.
they have said they would and are working on dx11, but i bet its just a very low priority side project.
Oh well, i got lots of games to play, if it takes then a couple years to fix gw2, then I really havent lost anything, the only loss will have been to anets pockets/bottom line, because im not giving them one red cent till they fix their kitten and get with the times.
