So I’ve been playing since headstart launch and I’ve had no problems whatsoever with frame rate or such, but today it felt choppy and I decided to just keep exploring and when I got to Black Citadel in the middle area I just get a sudden fps drop down to 15. This has not been a problem before as I’ve been there plenty of times.
I’m running a GTX EVGA 670 with the 304.79 Beta drivers, Intel Core I5 3.3Ghz 8GB Ram ect ect. I’m usually running at 60 fps if not more in the cities but now I’m down at 30-40 and dropped to 15 once so far.
Any idea of what it might be?

Okay so I just found out that there are new Beta drivers for Nvidia 306.02 and I have only tested it for 3 minutes but I went back to Black Citadel and the choppy gameplay and framerate drop seem to have been fixed, I will continue testing a bit.

Sorry to hear, it worked instantly for me. It removed all the choppy gameplay and I did not gain any fps drops anymore.

Tried it…..didn’t work for me either. Glad the OP had success but doesn’t appear to be a fix all.

I have a GTX 670 as well and I think there is a problem with areas of the Black Citadel and using the supersample texture option. My FPS will drop to single digits by moving into several specific areas of the map. Take one step backwards out of the problem area and the FPS shoot right back up. I think there might be specific textures that have problems and loading those textures is causing a serious issue. Forcing the textures to reload by using a waypoint, changing the graphic options, etc. will get around the problem until the area is reloaded and the textures loaded into memory again, then the problem returns. Changing the texture sampling to native seems to allow things to work normally. I placed a bug report with this info but never heard anything back about it. I tried the last 3 nvidia drivers and they all had the same problem. I haven’t tried the newest release from yesterday yet. The card works perfectly in other games and just fine when set to native samples so I don’t see this being an issue with the card itself.

It’s the engine, the is more cpu than gpu based even. Even a nvidia rep stated there is only so much they can do…
High end systems all run crap
Read some post before you think you found the holy grail, because there is none…

The beta drivers helped me out, just installed the new non beta drivers but haven’t yet tested.
Pre-beta drivers when I went to the Black Citadel I would sometimes drop fps so badly it would be like watching a slide show, alt tabbing to my desktop fixed it for a while. The beta drivers fixed this, heres hoping the new drivers do to.

The 306.02 beta drivers are exactly the same build as the new 306.23 WHQL so there is NO DIFFERENCE related to gw. There is some new tweaks for wow in it and
306.02: r304_70-80
306.23: r304_70-93
306.02 has even newer physX
quote nvidia:
Yes, these are very similar to 306.02. The main changes are compatibility for 680M, 660 and 650, new PhysX software for Borderlands 2, and other behind-the-scenes things for it and WoW: MoP.

Also being a Nvidia 550ti user im also using the beta drivers 306.02 and still getting choppy fps in cities and certain areas on the maps now unsure what to do or is it my system specs as no other games has issues.
System Spec:
AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition 3.2ghz
EVGA Geforce 550Ti 1gb
6gb RAM
Thoughts or ideas welcome looking at moving over to Radeon as my friend has no issues

Theres tons of peoples with problem using Radeon too. It’s not a nvidia problem.
Theres people with Nvidia without any problem at all…
Theres even almost same spec machines running the game in different ways. lol
I got a 550ti EVGA 1GB too, how many fps are you getting?

Its almost like me too. I get like 20 – 30 with all on max settings, sometimes go to 40, 50 and then it drops but never less then 20 here, even in big groups. That’s why I would say 20-30 as a average in max settings. lol
I think that’s ok, still low I admit, but could be worse. I was getting like 9 to 14,15 fps in the headstart with old driver in all the settings, low med high ultra. lol
I think the game itself need to be optimized a bit more.
What driver you got?

Ive had an issue with mine caused by the power management setting in the nvidia CP. If it is set to “adaptive” it can randomly (usually coming out of loading screens) drop in to 2d clock speeds and stay there, causing horribly choppy gameplay. Set this option to “maximum performance”, reboot and try again. Its an annoying thing as it keeps the card at full speed most of the time raising heat and power usage, but its the only solution i’ve found. Nvidia couldnt help, got me to submit a bug report, also reported it on here.
Only other temporary solution is as Paul.4081 says, by alt-tabbing out and back in again.
hope this helps,

What zones is everyone getting this in? On my GTX670 this only seems to happen in the Charr zones. The entire human zones were 40fps+ constantly.
