Try adding -forwardrenderer as a command line parameter.

Read on how to do that here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

Read some of the positive feedback received below! It’s working for some ppl!!!

With all the complaints about low FPS, nobody seems to pay any mind to a possible fix?

No improvement for me. It boosted fps by a few but I think that this was mainly because there were no shadows present.

I’m still struggling with the issue. I’ve made ticket about the matter but that seems to go nowhere <.<

If Anet could give some kind of response about the matter. Anything would be welcome.

I was posting about fps issues like 2 months ago. Nobody from Anet ever got any interest in it so I stopped playing. Just trying the game from time to time but it’s optimisation is driving me crazy I just can’t play with 60 fps suddenly going to 5 fps just because I look in different direction. Also I know cities are crowded etc, but really the fps shouldn’t differ from like 150 fps outside to 30 inside. it’s just a bad engine which is poorly coded cannot handle so much stress in cities where npcs and players are constantly moving.

Might makes me right!

And this has to do with the -forwardrenderer command how? Please stick to the topic, or reply to one of the other general-blame framerate threads…

Already reported my feedback on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/forwardrenderer-Command-Line-Argument but pretty much, I noticed no real performance difference.

Well, that did add a few extra frames – perhaps 7-10 or so; not back to the halcyon days of when everything was silky smooth but every little helps.

Kudos to you and I would recommend bunging this into the command line.

Maybe it isn’t our minds and it’s the minds of the developers behind the game itself?

I am extremely happy to hear all the positive results!

Keep in mind that with -forwardRenderer, lighting is a little strange at times and there are no shadows.

OK, I’ve experimented a little further.

With -forwardrenderer on, yes, shadows go missing. However, if I switch shadows off (yeah, I know) and the same with reflections, I can get back up to very respectable 50fps in rural areas. In town, it dips horribly but not as much as it did before.

Thank you Fissure God!

I also found a minor performance fix. I exclude the gw2.dat file from the real time AV scanner. No need to keep inspecting all the reads while I’m playing and I trust ANet that they aren’t going to put anything nasty in there. I gained a frame or two in heavy player areas like around the MF in LA, the game reading and building player avatars as they flit in and out of the area. I also improved zoning times by a fair margin.

I’m using Avira, not sure if this will work for other AV software as well.

Nice find. I haven’t tried that yet but will give it a go – it sounds like busy areas could benefit. Now all I need to do is figure out where, in AVG, I can set the exceptions. Maybe a job for the weekend

I really don’t know why there aren’t more replies to this thread as this has really helped.

If you take a look at the views, there are over 650 at the time of writing this. I am sure that most of those people have tried it but haven’t bothered to reply. Sadly, that is the way this community is.

I finally got around to try this and I didn’t see a difference other than shadows are off. Frame rate stayed the same but CPU and GPU usage was lower.

I tried this and the only change was making my game look worse with no difference in FPS

I definitely noticed my game runs a lot smoother after adding that. Camera is a lot more responsive and I think I got some FPS too.
I’ve had some performance issues in the new WvW content, especially in the tall tower on southeast corner of the ruins. My camera was getting really “heavy” and FPS dropped a lot.
Went to test it again after adding that line, and while I can still feel FPS drops some, my camera was really responsive.

Really worth trying that if you don’t have top notch PC. Thanks, buddy.

If this only affects the shadows then I might give it a go and see how it is.

No, it also has some adverse effects on the lighting. But it is only noticeable sometimes.
