Hey, today i’m using a i7-2600 but feel like i sometimes would like better performance. My budget is around 750 dollar. Is there any processor for that price that would do much change? What would the fps increase be?

Without knowing the details of your system it’s difficult to determine what would work best for you and how much of an fps increase you would enjoy. One thing is certain, GW2 benefits from CPU power more than GPU power.

The logical next step for you would be to advance to a Sandy Bridge E chip. Assuming this is even compatible with your system the 3930K is the best chip that fits within your budget. Also, don’t forget the advantages of overclocking so long as you can keep your system cool enough.

The I7-2600 uses the 1155 socket. It is one off the best CPU’s available for that socket. To be able to run better CPU’s (e.g. ones with 6-8 cores) you also need a different mainboard. This would also mean you prolly need different memory.

My advice would be to post your full specs into a post in the technical support forum and your budget and ask them people there how they would invest it. Without knowing a lot bout the rest of the system it is hard to tell.

However, I’m running two gtx660ti video cards and they are both about maxed out. Do NOT rely on on board graphics (something that was not addressed in you system config nor the first response from Henri).

I agree – hard to make recommendations without knowing your existing specs. Please post. Do not forget to include the power supply.

If your motherboard allows it, you could upgrade to 3770K, however the difference would be quite minimal. If 750 is your budget just for the CPU, you could upgrade your mobo to something with z87 chipset and buy a 4770K, again the difference is quite insignificant.

750 dollars can fetch you an i7 4770K and a decent MSI Just Game series motherboard and then you could look up some guides to overclocking and slam it to 4.2 or 4.3 and get a nice little boost.

^ this.

If you really want to put 750 into your system, and all you need is a CPU/MB and possibly a new PSU. the 4770K is what I would recommend.

The i7-2600 is probably the best processor of the last 3 generations in terms of overclockability.

Now if you were running stock clocks then the i7-4770 wins. But getting it to overclock as easily as a -2600 is really dumb luck. Plus the change in the internal thermal transfer material between the silicon to the heat spreader makes the ix-3xxx and -4xxx tougher to cool (as well as the feature shrink increasing the density of gates concentrates the heat more).

Edit: tweaked what I meant about -4770k overclocking.

That’s not very logical, in fact, rather illogical. The logical step if you want to jump ahead in platforms, would be the 4930k…. The ACTUAL logical step however, would be that if he runs a 2600, he should look at a 4770k and accompanying motherboard to overclock with.

The 2600 is not very overclockable, quite limited really. If he had a 2600k I would say just push to 4.5GHz and roll with that unless he has the upgrade itch.
