Random Serious Frame Dips
Are you experiencing same kinda fps drops in any other games? Im suspecting that you are facing thermal throttling issues so I’d suggest you to monitor cpu and graphics card temps and cpu behavior at the times of dips. (Hwmonitor / Coretemp are the monitoring tools you can use)
I experience huge FPS drops, from 60 FPS to 1-2 FPS, in battle where there are lot of explosion’s dust effects, like the one produced by a trebuchet hitting the ground. The FPS drop suddendly to 1-2 fps and, when the fog effect is gone, comes back to normal.
I think it’s an issue caused by the multiple particles used by the fog effect.

This only happens in gw2. It’s not the best rig, but it’s capable of running most modern games nearly or fully maxed out.
As for partial effects, it’s not linked to them at all. Like when the Fire Elemental spawns, I’ll drop down to 2 or 3 fps if I’m looking at it, but what these random frame dips are different. I can be looking straight at a wall but it’ll still chug until it finally pops back up. This also happens randomly in LA as well. I can just be shuffling through my bank, and if there’s enough people around (not even doing anything, just standing there with me), I’ll drop down to 1 frame a second or even as bad as 2 seconds per frame.
I tried reinstalling and wiping the folder in my documents, but nothing has had any effect.
Most other games aren’t using the CPU as much. That’s why I’m suspecting the thermal throttling because it doesnt matter if you have a super computer or just 500$ one the dust problem is universal As I said monitor the temps to eliminate the throttling possibility also please provide system specs in your next post and whether or not you have changed any components lately or Operatin System even.

What settings are you playing the game at?

I’m on Windows 7 x64 and haven’t changed any components since last year.
This is pretty much exactly whats happening to me too, changing to best performance doesn’t really make much improvement either.
Checked GPU temp and Core temp, and the temperatures don’t seem overly high, usually hitting 50 degrees at most when running GW2, and usually around 30 degrees when Idle.
Been using the same PC since October, with no problems at all, running at mostly medium settings, getting around 50-60 FPS, dropping down to 20-30 during events, big mobs etc. Only seems to have occurred with one of the most recent patches, as I was playing fine during the Aetherblades event, did the dungeon several times with no problems at all.
System Specs here.
