get 670SLI. It’s worth more value than 680×2.
As soon my new 2560×1440 comes in I would give a suggestion.

Get two 7970s and its only like 60 bucks more than two 670s and a lot more powerful.

Good idea, he can then have all the Xfire issues that come with it.

Original post is a few weeks old, hopefully got it sorted, he should do fine with that setup.
Kalec: I just setup a 27" Catleap yesterday and run a gtx670 (& i5 3570 cpu) run everything ‘high’ and FXAA and it does well. Usually 50-70, sometimes much higher. There are trouble area where framerates drop into the 20’s and 30’s, but I had those too at 1920×1200.
GW2 looks more amazing than ever on 2560×1440. I wish the UI had more scaling options but I can live with it for the time being.

GTX660Ti SLI should be able to handle 60FPS average and WvW expect FPS dip even on GTX680 SLI unless you run at Mid settings for WvW.
I run at this with all settings maxed on a GTX 570 with an i7 3770K CPU. Most of the time the speed is around 40fps, so if you have a more recent card it should run quite well.

I run crossfire without a hitch. Never had a single issue in any game.
You should go talk crap somewhere else.
Pretty sure cbuzz has the youtube channel benchbrovidz (I don’t think theres a second person who would run 2x 660tis at exactly 1300mhz with a 3930k. He tried running 2 hd 5850s in crossfire and failed to get it to work. First of all why would you run such old cards when you have a brand new 3930k and to me your crossfire issue was really an ID 10t error.

When you go multiscreen or above 1080p you will generaly need ether SLI or a high end 600 series. A 580 is good ..but im pritty sure your at its limits.
Best way to tell is to monitor its usage when your at your said 30 fps ..if its at 99% ..ur maxed out and need more gpu power. If its not, then there is another problem.
Also ..you have a 3930k ..why are u not overclocking ..its a monster overclocker
Edit: Swordbreaker before you say anything about my gpu and my 3930k ..yes i know i should be running a newer card, preferably sli ..but im waiting on the 700 series..i have my reasons )

Thats cool. Was talking about cbuzz. I only brought it up as a point specific to him because he acts like he’s so leet and I couldnt stand the hypocricy.

Sorry let me clarify… I am not bashing Nvidia cards in anyway.
If you decide to run them in a single or SLI configuration, great. There really isn’t that much of a difference nowadays.
But, people going around claiming ATI are crap and have driver issues are just plain stupid.
Plug in the cards, install the drivers and… they work. I have had the exact same experience with SLI. I just personally moved to AMD because they release DX11 earlier and I decided to stay with them, as the AMD bang for buck model works perfectly while Nvidia played catch up.
I mean 7970 for £100 less than a 680, it’s no brainer for me. Yes the 680 is better, but not £100 better.
What ever you decide to use from either company in the mid to top end range will be great.
After playing Batman AA and AC with PhysX on High, I could never go back to ATI. :P
Even though I haven’t tried it yet, Borderlands 2 also shows great effects with PhysX:

In the end, any hardware can be made great, but ultimately, it’s the software, the “experience” that counts.
ATI is the one with the most efficient GPUs, no doubt there, their execution on the hardware level is impressive. nVidia also makes good hardware, but they win really well on the software front: PhysX, CUDA and 3D Vision were really their best bets.
Could not agree more, but PhysX, CUDA and 3D Vision are all subjective.
