Q:

I’m thinking about buying the new macbook air, and I was wondering if anyone could let me know how gw2 would run on it.

I was planning on getting the 256GB 13" MBA, and was wondering if upgrading the CPU from 1.3GHz i5 to 1.7GHz i7 would substantially help run gw2. I also was wondering if upgrading from 4GB to 8GB RAM would help.

Obviously a MBA isn’t ideal for gaming but that’s not the only reason I’m buying it. Decent graphics with decent FPS would be fine for me.

I’d be getting the 256GB flash storage with the 13" screen. I’m trying to decide if I should upgrade from 1.3GHz intel i5 to 1.7GHz intel i7, and/or if I should upgrade from 4GB ram to 8GB ram.

first i suggest to read this thread of another player that bought the sam macbook air here : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/New-MBAir-2013-performance-Mac-Client/2204404

personal ,i would never buy this laptop for the game. it uses the intel hd 5000 as video card that uses ram from the 4 gb system’s ram ( if you put 8 gb ram you will have better results because it plays better in windows with bootcamp , so u need at least the 256 gb ssd for the partition ).

the problem with macbook air is that there is no option for a dedicated video card as there is an option for the macbook pro that have dual vga ( inte and nvidia ) and it costs the same .

the minimum requirements for mac ( you can see them in the download page in your account ) are these :
Mac Beta Minimum System Requirements

Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later
Intel® Core™ i5 or better
4 GB Ram or better
NVIDIA® GeForce® 320M, ATI Radeon™ HD 6630M, Intel HD 3000 or better
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse/equivalent

so better the macbook pro ( special for www and large scale pve events like the last update ) with i5 cpu and nvidia 650 as dedicated vga than the macbook air with i7 and intel 5000 as onboard vga . their costa are the same as you can see here http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/

but overall of these i think you are going to pickup the air just because of the design that the macbook pro not have . if you want stick with apple just dont buy the air only the pro else you can find cheaper laptops with better specs for the game from other brands like dell that gives i7 with 650m at 1049 $
