Q:

Hello all, i hope someone can help. I just came back to GW2 from a moderately long absence playing other games (mostly skyrim) and upon reinstalling the game, patching, logging in, selecting my character (no issues up to this point, all as expected) and watching the loading screen for the plains of ashford (still no issues) and then the in-game world shows itself…sort of…. The skill bar is there, the friends window comes up fie, the map displays well, I can even walk around, but the screen that isn’t part of the previously described HUD is a very pretty, very solid, and quite uniform shade of purple. I can see some names floating over characters in green, some floating icons (the scout/map view icon, for example) that floats over the heads of others. but I cannot actually see the characters these names and icons represent. I can walk, and interact with things, i just can’t see them for the lovely shade of violet blocking my vision. I exit as normal (all the menus work fine, there isn’t even any lag), reenter, reload ashford, and now the screen is blue (still see the hud, all things otherwise normal) I use the overhad map (which still funtions fine) to navigate my way into the black citadel, (the asura gate for entrance is functioning normally) and when the black citadel loads from the normal loading screen (which i can see fine) the HUD is normal, the map is as expected, but the actual world is now a uniform steely blue-gray.

Not sure what’s going on. Any hints?

System specs:
Microsoft Windows XP home edition, version 2002, Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor
2.11 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
ATI Radeon 4600 series

Now, I honestly don’t know what information beyond this is relevant, or how much of this is relevant, so let me know if other info is needed, and where to find it.

A:

Try to update your VGA driver if you didn’t do it, and then if it don’t work, try to repair the game files.

shouldnt have gotten a screen with only one pixel! :P but in all seriousness i have never seen something like that before, very odd. i would try updating the drivers of all of the components in ur system. you will have to do some researching on where to even find them, as it is a bit of a scavenger hunt to find any drivers that arent for gpus (as these drivers seem to be needed less often, i guess)

Several options to try (just going to list them):

1. Restart comp! I know simple and kind of dumb, but it has fixed issues for some… Or at least temporarily.

2. Update video card drivers.

3. Delete local.dat file (under my documents/guild wars 2), load gw2.

4. If problems still persist after these 3, try this (as posted by another user):

“Those of you on 32 bit operating systems can try adding the 3 gig memory switch. I don’t know if this works on Windows 7, but it will on XP and Vista. I have no way of knowing if this will solve your GW2 ‘out of memory’ issues, but it [theoretically] will.:

http://www.vfxpedia.com/index.php?title=FAQ/3GB_Switch

Edit: Ignore the stuff about “DFX+/Fusion cache limit” it has nothing to do with GW2."

As a note, you have a 32bit windows, which cannot recognise more that 3.25~3.5gb of ram and how much you can use for gw2 is limited. These types plus a lot of “out of memory” and c0000005 errors are coming from 32bit windows due to these limitations and gw2 excessive use of ram. Solution #4 may actually prevent you from having those, at least until the day you are able to upgrade to a 64bit OS (which comes with its own baggage lol).

Post back if any of that worked or not.
