He says he was hired and they said a few locations of him not sure if they are real though they got a few addresses not just one. Hope they get them this is just silly it’s not even worth anything. Where’s Aiden Pearce when you need’em!

For some reason a lot of people are missing that this is a DDoS attack and think the living story update is causing this. We gotta keep this thread alive to get the word out!

What you guys should be doing is wanting to send booze and energy drinks to the people at NCsoft in general. It is going to be a -very- long night for some IT people and they will need the booze and drinks. And cake. Lots of delicious cake.
Its been happening for 3 weeks now I doubt they been ddos atacking them for that long. And why would anyone do it? Its getting so frustrating, I really like the game but soon I cant play it anymore if this dont stop. I only play pvp so its even more importent that there is no lag.

Lots of reasons bad people do DDoS attacks…read up on it. The rate of attacks is way up this year from last year. The Internet is a very wild and dangerous place.
He’s awake again and he is hitting things again according to the hijacked Twitter account. Well I say “him” but I think it’s a few people but he’s part of it either way. Apparently he’s known by FBI already in the past for some other time he did this type of stuff which makes him dumb to even do this again. He’s very egotiscal and talks like he’s 5 years old.

Not much anet can do, when the Tier One backbone is being hammered by 300gb per sec attacks.
Edit to say; it’s actually pretty slow right now, compared to what it looked like last night when most Americans turned on their PCs after getting home.

For some of us, this has been happening for the last two weeks.
I wish players would quit confusing these issues….posting FUD just confuses the issue.
There is a BIG difference in some players having connection issues (due to whatever issues) and EVERYONE in NA having these issues because the NCSoft Server farm is being attacked (and this attack goes much deeper than than that).

It generally is not necessary to submit a ticket or make a forum post about such a situation because, due to our careful monitoring of our game servers, we learn of such matters nearly instantly.
Nice to see a reply from anet about the issues but I have had these issues for 8 months or so and all other games and internet tasks are fine so what am I supposed to do?

If you’ve had these issues for 8 months, then you have been experiencing a different issue. What the rest of the gaming community is experiencing is a DDoS attack, by the outside source linked to on the first page of this thread, which is specifically targeting Wild Star. However, since Wild Star is part of NCSoft, all of their games are under fire. Blizzard’s WoW is also said to be experiencing the attack.

Not to be mean, but if you “know that”, why would you lump your 8 month old internet issues in with a SERVER attack issue? It is very unlikely they are at all related. Have you opened a ticket to address YOUR particular issue?

For one, you should try to wait to send tickets and open threads about it when this server attack is not taking place, whenever it ends. And, I am not at all trying to be rude or mean here, but can we please now continue to keep this thread on the topic of the server attack taking place? The more we stray, the more likely we will get this thread locked either due to off-topic posts (which will eventually take place), flamming (due to inconsistent topics and relatively pointless/useless comments), etc.
Do you really want players to not post when this happens? I am certain ANET knows the problem due to its constant monitoring of servers, but what about the player who simply wants to know if it is an issue with them or with the game? Couldn’t it help players to see the problem was bigger than them?

well i’ ve been having several kicks and lag it started right after first patch of 2nd seasson lasted for a week then all was “stable” <- for that i mean theres still lag but not like this now it comes the second patch on 15 july and with it the insane lag and kicks to the point this game is unplayable at very first i thought was my net conection but i ran several test including playing other games and gw2 is the only one acting like this i just want to know if this will keep going while this 2nd season is on (i know many player do like story but for myself i’ve never done it and can tell u after all this issues now i hate it) i dont want to be rude but dont make me waste my time on a unplayable game :/
i must add that i solo really often arah and my times for path 1-3 are in bewteen 40mins- 1 hr with this late issues one path is taking around 6 hrs or it just cant be done have to quit half way or u get kicked at very last boss ……….. really wonderfull
also gaile u mentioning it doesnt need to be reported but this has been going for more than 15 days ………
Unkillable — You are welcome to submit a ticket and discuss what seems to be an individual issue with Technical Support. Clearly this thread is about a very recent occurrence, not a situation that has been ongoing for 2+ weeks.

You guys do this for changes with the game, but not when there is a service issue with the game.
I really think moving forward, doing what you guys do on Twitter and Facebook also NEEDS to be also reflected here on the forums someplace. For example, I do not use Facebook or Twitter to get game updates. I strictly come here to THESE forums. And I know many other players do that too.
It would make me, and I’m sure countless others, feel better if we can get updates on network issues that are affecting connectivity to your servers that you already know about. This latest DOS attack is not your guys fault, but I do hold you accountable for not updating the forums with MORE information from your side until 7~ hours ago. This issue has been doing on since last night, and maybe even started the night before.

Agree 100% Why not use the forums to communicate as well as Twitter and Facebook? It makes sense to use the forums as resource as much as those other methods.

I fully support this comment as well. I would think that it is safe to say that AT LEAST half of the gw2 community relies on the GW2 MAIN website and forums, more than they do twitter and facebook, for updates and whatnot. It seems quite silly to not use the main site, at least just as much.

Since the Ddos attack (since yesterday when I logged), I had much lower FPS issues than 2 days ago. Is it possible that ddos attack lowers FPS ?
Not really. During a DDoS attack you’ll see major lag (5-60 seconds) in game as well as login delays and forum sluggishness. FPS issues is more about GPU, CPU & RAM.
Anyway this particular kitten wad (I typed that) hasn’t been on for most of the day…he might be down for the count.
I just want to express how impressed I am with ArenaNet’s handling of attacks like this. When this happened on New Years for instance games like League of Legends were completely down for hours while GW2 stayed online the whole time (even if slowed to almost unplayable). Whatever you guys are doing…great job! You all never cease to amaze me as a company. Someday I’ll seriously bake you those cookies you all deserve. <3

I wouldn’t jumps to conclusions. Often these attention kitten hackers follow a pattern of attacking for several nights, halting attacks for some time and then changing some attack parameters (to thwart previous “fixes”) and continuing at a more opportune time (like a weekend after a new release…… ).
