I have the same problem lately. I kept an close watch on my gpu lately with msi afterburner and i see that when my gpu is loaded at 99% my core clock is lowering itself exactely by 50% and as well does my shader clock. Normaly those are 900 and 1800 but at high gpu load they are 450 and 900. I can notice then that my fps are dropping. And when they are stable again and i check msi i see that my core and shadow clock is at full power and that my gpu load is around 50-70. My temp is also insane. When i play my gpu reaches 96 degrees with full fan speed.

My specs are:

Gpu: nvidia Gtx 550 Ti
Cpu: intel I7- 2600
Ram: 8gb
Windows 7

Is that 96C, if so you best get that checked out and give it some proper ventilation.

It’s 96 C. Went to pc store too but they couldnt help me either. Bought the system al factory pre made. So dunno what to do anymore. Airflow aint the problem cuz with side case off temp stays the same. Got it for 1 year now and my screen never flics or anything. Il just fry this card up and upgrade to an gtx 660

Hahaha, that’s one way to justify getting a new card, or you can reapply the thermal paste between the heat sink and the GPU itself to lower the temperatures. Alternatively, you can buy an aftermarket cooler for your GPU and use that instead of the stock cooler you’re likely using.

In addition to that you can down clock the card (not what people want to hear), to reduce the voltage and frequency to lower the temperature.

Well i can try the thermal paste. Wouldnt suprise me if there is none. But i searched for an aftermarket cooler but those are kinda expensive for my type of card or they are to big ( and expenisive) to buy one. I have more for my money when i buy a new card.

I’m a bit to concerned at this point if this is going to become a regular thing I’ll just play other games until they fix it. I was really looking forward to the new pirate update and finishing my dragon bash stuff but having 10-15 FPS in LA is just pure torture at times. I’m getting a bit worried about the 99% GPU usage to if this thing gets damaged I’m outta luck. </3 I’ll check back regularly sure hopefully this doesn’t become permanent. Fix dem optimization issues pls Anet.

99% GPU usage is normal if you don’t have a frame cap or V-sync enabled and don’t already hit your frame cap or 60FPS for V-sync. 99% GPU usage doesn’t harm your card, using your card to its fullest isn’t a bad thing unless you’re getting subpar performance expected from your graphics card at which point its a problem with the game. The things that damage your card are excessive temperatures and voltage which are usually culprit of a poorly cleaned system or overclocking.

Well i opened up my gpu, found some dried up and way to mutch crappy thermal paste. Cleaned the dust and the core, bought some arctic mx-4 online for 11 euros, applied it and it runs great. Temp in La is now 73 degrees max with my fan still on lowest, VS fan on jet mode (full speed) with 99 degrees. So yea fixed it and got better fps now. Gpu usage is still high but it doesnt matter anymore cuz my temps are lower.
