So am I basically screwed? (FPS/Specs)
If you can overclock that e6400 to 3Ghz you can pretty much double your FPS for free. I’ve already done it on my Minimum Requirements PC
GTX 6GB Titan@1160Mhz
3007WFP@2560x16000
Recently my brother mentioned to me Guild Wars 2 came out, and having been a busy time in my life lately I had completely forgotten. At any rate, I checked the specs and was slightly worried, but I figured I was above the minimum and should be able to run the game decently at low settings. Specs below
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13GHz)
Nvidia GTX260 Factory OC’d
4GB RAMYes, I know I am going to get a lot of “Lol, your PC’s a joke, upgrade fool” and while I would love to, I just graduated from college and do not have the funds to buy a new computer (which I would have to do). Now, I have read a lot of people even with very good PC’s are getting bad FPS, which gives me some hope, but even if they fix the issues am I still screwed? I get no more than 20FPS pretty much all the time. I didn’t expect/want the game to be pretty, but even with everything on low/off, and the lowest resolution, it still runs terribly. Diablo 3 and Skyrim run fine, as does WoW on max settings, but I realize this is more CPU intensive.
At any rate, figured I’d see if I wasted my $50, I was hoping to play with my brother but maybe I’ll have to wait until I can get a new PC.
You’re not screwed. If you can overclock the CPU to 2.66ghz – 3ghz should be fine at most. I also have old dual core(e6300 overclocked to 2.6ghz – stock fan lol ) + 560ti (1920 × 1080 reso) I just click best performance and removed shadows and post processing set the subsample to native and getting 25-35 fps in PvE , 20ish in Large cities and 5 fps in WvW Large fights
.
Eternal Breaker[ExB] || Sanctum of Rall
You can run the game. Just don’t expect smooth FPS in situations that demand a lot of CPU power.
Thank you for the responses so far! I have never done any overclocking in my life, are there any recommended guides I should follow/ones you have used before?
Just did a bit of googling for you and came across this guide
http://hexus.net/tech/tech-explained/cpu/9808-intel-core-2-duo-basic-overclocking-guide-beginners/
it is specific to your type of processor so it should be all the information you need. Read it thoroughly, follow it’s advice, try not to push things too far and most of all, good luck
On a personal note, ive found Core 2 processors generally go between 3Ghz and 3.4Ghz quite happily without getting too hot, try not to go beyond this!
Well, I give up. I spent a couple hours reading guides, overclocked my CPU as much as I could without getting any errors, and I got zero improvement. What a waste of $60.
Dont give up hope just yet, there seems to be an issue with gw2 and core 2 processors. I have the same issue on my core 2 duo processor. And some other people with better pcs and core 2 processors are also having problems with fps.
Could be worse though. You could be on a mac :p

What did you overclock to? I clocked my e2140 (under minimum requirements) from 1.8Ghz to 3.4Ghz & fps more than doubled.
