This is the third time today that this game crash happened to me, the whole thing started yesterday so maybe there was something wrong with yesterdays patch. I played 100 hours of WvW before yesterday without a single issue whatsoever.
The issue is: In every 2-3 hours especially in massive fights, and when we break gates, so there are a lot of sounds and effects on the screen the sound goes silent and I only heal constant beeping. Right after this, the game crashes, I get the report tool, and that’s it.

It sounds like you have a beep code to look up. Try checking your MB manual for beep codes and it should tell you what it means.. I had it happen to me too and it was a thermal overload to my keyboard sound. I moved my plugs around and it has been somewhat fine, minus a few sound hiccups here and there.

If its a siren beeping sound in left headphone then this is the same bug I’m getting. When I wvw I mute the sound effects, seems to help temporary until there is an official fix. Try it.

You got me wrong, this is not the motherboard but the game. Now I changed the audio settings in the game, form “low latency” to “more stabel”. The sound bug is still there, but at least the game not crashes, so I can play with that weird sound in the background. Only the game sound goes mad, if I mute the game once it happens, I can play music or whatever I want.
I also found a video on youtube, this is exactly how it sounds for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbdEc1sldQ8
I have an Asus Xonar soundcard, maybe that is the source of the problem, but since it works well with other games and programs I think that the GW programmers should know about this issue, even if it only effect a few players.

I had the exactly same issue. I guess it is not depending on your soundcard, because I use the Logitech G35 Headset. My solution to avoid the annoying beep-sound was to press the “Restore Default”-button and only move the bars above “Audio Device” to get your desired volume settings.

I watched the video and I have had the exact same problem during the Kol fight in Harathi. When everyone is fighting and he does his stomp attack my sound will cut out and I only here that amazingly annoying tone. Exiting and logging back in fixes it but since logging out resets the monthly exp achievement (another issue altogether) I was stuck with no sound for a while. Anyway, I’m using a Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Champion so this isn’t limited to just your ASUS.

I’ve had the exact same problem multiple times in WvW during large group battles. Have yet to find a solution. The sound comes from my speakers and stops the moment the game is closed.

Ok, “good” to hear that I’m not alone, but all of us use a sound card other then the integrated crap. I’ll try to do the thing Yeti said, but if I have to sacrifice the sound quality then I’ll be a bit disappointed.
I would really appreciate a technical answer from the support team, maybe I can tweak something.

I have this exact same problem, very annoying. My PC never crashes because of it, but I have to restart the client to make it stop.

Sounds like the game is not addressing the Sound Drivers properly, I fear the only way this can be fixed is due to a game update. Reporting it is a good step forward

I just want to chime in the SAME THING happens to me. An excessive amount of large players either in an event or in WvW. Does that exact same sound. Thanks for that vid find.

Iam so sick of it, same happens to me all the time. I was just battleing a drake with like 30 people around for 10 minutes. Right before the Drake went down, peep sound ~ 5 times, client crash → login again, no loot, no xp, no nothing. i stopped count how often this already happened to me, but it sure ruins the game.
I cant be too hard to fix this, and its game breaking because it ruins the fun of situations with more than 10 ppl around

Lowering sound quality worked for some. ANet said they were aware of it in the similar threads that probably made it to page10ish by now, but haven’t gave a timeframe for a fix.

I am so glad others are having this issue. No other game has ever caused this problem. That Youtube video is “Exactly” the same thing that I experience. I don’t always crash but at times when I do, my computer will Blue Screen. I reloaded all of my sound card/Headset drivers and firmware.
Sound Card: Razor Barracuda 5.12.0001.0008
Headset: Razor Megladon 6.01.7601.17514
Still have the same issue.

Same issue here with the sound beeping but no crashes for me what I would suggest especially playing WvW is to mute sound in game I think it helps. Merry Christmas to all

The same thing happened to me, three times in a row within 40 minutes. The beeping sound starts and a few seconds later my client simply freezes.

I just got the same weird sound. I was doing Maw. It’s like an alarm warning, looping. OooOooOOoooOOooOOo. Logged off and it stopped. Thought it’s my fault.
I get no crashes whatsoever though, just the sound. For the first time ever. I’ve never had this before.

Was Happening since pre release, is still happening now. OooOooOooOooOoo Sound, if you keep playing no to lose the Dragon Chest Client will Crash eventualy after few minutes. that is if the lag will not crash your client first. Amazingly since September nothing really was done about this issue. it happens mostly in places/event with large amounts of players such as WvWvW sieges, or Dragon events such as Claw of Jormag but also in Orr Shrines. i stopped bothering reporting since in the end it is always “my” fault if not my ISP’s.

I set my audio settings to defaults and that fixed the issue for me. I think that this issue is from the CPU being overburdened and causing the sound card(onboard) driver to crash.

Hi Kristof Kulcsar – That does appear to be the infamous sound bug. This is a known issue that’s being looked into and I wish I had an ETA for a fix but at the moment there just isn’t one.
I know you don’t want to sacrifice sound quality, though I know other players have resolved or minimized this problem by reducing their Sound settings from “High Quality” to “Fastest.”
Other than that, there isn’t anything at all wrong with your system, it’s simply a known issue.

I deleted my local.dat file, never had the sound bug since (going on 2 months clean)

Probably because that caused the sound quality to be reset from highest to medium which is the default.

Here is how I resolved it about 2 months ago.
Control panel → hardware → sounds → double click on device → advanced → select 24 bit 48k.
