Hello,
I’ll get right to the point so hopefully someone can suggest something. Here are my problems:
1) People skip around on my screen a bit almost like they are speed hacking. Happens while spectating people in spvp even.
2) Worse during combat, things become laggy and sluggish. FPS stays the same
3) Game feels slow and almost like I have to “push on my keyboard harder”. Very difficult to explain, but similar complaints to people that are running their video card on PCI-E 1.0.
4) On a mesmer, it seems I always have to wait extra time to use blink or it will just place me 1-2 feet ahead
5) Constantly resetting skills because the other one didn’t finish casting.
5) Started after the seasons/league patch
Computer Specs
Windows 8 64 bit.
i7 3770k Overclocked to 4.5ghz (I’ve played at stock as well with the same issues)
ASUS P8z77-V PRO
Kingston 16gb HyperX Red (KHX16C10B1RK2/16)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 GV-N6700C-2GD
Power Supply: Corsair TX750M
HDDS: Mushkin Chronos SSD (OS drive), Corsair Force 3 SSD (GW2 running on this drive), WD Black 2TB
Things I’ve Tried
1) Ran at stock speeds
2) Disabled TDR (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff569918(v=vs.85).aspx)
3) Set HPET on and bcdedit /set useplatformclock true. CURRENT: HPET off and no useplatformclock.)
4) Disabled HID devices minus my mouse.
5) vsync on/off (CURRENT: on). I noticed with it off I would get 150+ FPS but my GPU would run at 99%. Runs around 25-30% at 60 FPS
6) Updated my video card drivers, network card drivers (and NVM Update Utility)
7) Played with all TCP unload off and on. CURRENT: on
8) Running on /clientport 80

If you need more information, I’ll get it for you.
Thanks for your time.

Things that can cause lag that are NOT directly associated with your PC:
There have been KNOWN issues with # 3 above when EU ISPs are connecting to US Servers (don’t know details, but I’ve seen the traceroute reports…..there is obviously a bad switch / route that caused massive lags and disconnect).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
1. For sure. Not in my case though, my computer is the only device on the network that is powered on. Transmission speeds are fine for me (ping could be another issue): http://www.speedtest.net/result/3081574776.png
2. This is very well possible. I get some lag spikes but no packet loss if you check my attached winMTR log. But the lag I get doesn’t match up with those spikes. Mine is always during combat.
3. Very possible too, wish I had some substantial proof that it was this so I stop messing with my pc settings/router etc…
I also pretty much never get disconnected unless my actual full internet connection drops.
Thank you for the info though
Your hardware looks fine, but the thing I would look towards would be your connection directly to the server in question.
When you are ingame type “/ip” and jot that down, do a tracert of the IP and let’s see if there’s something that is screwing you on the way to the server.
Do you happen to have VMware? If you do, we could actually test the latency issue by installing GW2 on a virtual machine and running the vm with discrete hardware so no slowdowns, then if you get the same “lag” effect it should be a good indicator it’s something to do with your net connection to the server, be it your modem/router/switch, a substation on the way to the server, or the server.
Hey Sobe,
Thanks for checking out my post.
Check the winMTR I attached: https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/116827/winmtr.txt
I’ll get some Ping Plotter reports up in a bit.
I don’t have vmware at the moment, would their free version suffice for this test?
Are there any other OS power settings I could have missed?
Perhaps something with my overclock like LLC or C1e etc we could review?
Why does windows report a different clock speed here (4.34 Ghz) http://imgur.com/a/OOncy#9 ?
Thanks,
Vesu

For VMware you can grab a free trial of VMware Workstation, which is what you would need. Keep in mind if you have another pc you can test the game with, that would be the easier/faster option.
As for OS power settings, unless you have it set to Balanced Power or Power Saving, you should be sitting at ‘High Performance’. As far as overclocking, LLC will only be needed if your OC becomes unstable due to load voltages. C1 state or any other cpu power-saving features can be on or off, personal preference for the most part unless your OC is unstable, in which you would more than likely just keep off.

I am going to my buddy’s house this week. He has the same ISP so I’m going to see how the game feels on his machine/connection.
I have my LLC on 50%, should I try turning it off?
IF you are able, take your tower to his place to test, that way you can rule out your own hardware at any possible fault. That way you can determine if it runs fine on his pc it could be somewhere in your own network.
If your LLC is set to Medium/50% for your current overclock, I would say just leave it. Just as an example, if I move my LLC below 75% my overclock will become unstable when under load xD
Lan party it is.
What’s your experience with keyboard/mouse input lag?
I swear my typing seems a bit sluggish when the game is running and typing this to you on my other monitor.
Could be a majority of things but often related to vsync buffering and the such. If you have vsync enabled, try disabling it and see if you regain responsiveness.

Every chip is different. I have a dud that needs extreme LLC to boot 4.5 with crappy voltage. It just depends on the lottery and the board. There have been many users experiencing system lag lately, myself included. I get the feeling it is the devs messing with stuff

Preaching to the wrong person :P Little Devil CPU pot and a dewer of Liquid Nitrogen are my friend.

^^ If I had the money I would get your cooling system for sure
Tried some other stuff for fun last night with no real success
1) I ran SFC /scannnow and found corruption it couldn’t fix. Then I ran dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and it fixed it. Lag seemed fine for a bit then came back. It’s always in combat I have issues
2) A major thing is, I recorded some stuff with Dxtory and it doesn’t show the lag I am seeing on screen. The videos seem fluid and fine. Dxtory captures the direct x output to file, so does this mean this is some kind of latency between my video card and monitor?
Anything I can troubleshoot there?
That is actually rather perplexing if you recorded and your recording comes out clean….
Is your monitor higher than 60Hz? Is it overclockable for that matter? Your vid card ISN’T sitting at 1.0x when in-game right? Have you attempted to try older vid drivers?
Both monitors are 60hz
1) Samsung BX2350 (default, play gw2 on)
2) Samsung SA300
I have no clue if my monitor is overclockable…do you mean higher than 60hz? Windows shows both are set to true color 32bit – 60hz
My card is sitting at 3.0x in game: http://imgur.com/a/OOncy#4
Haven’t tried older drivers. I’m running the latest for the BF4 support. What’s the best way to downgrade?
Your card is running @ 16x on the 3.0 slot so no worries there. The monitors, looks like your standard 60Hz so no worries there.
As far as older drivers, exactly the same as if you were updating to newer drivers. Download the desired drivers, uninstall current, install desired. The latest drivers from NVIDIA seem to be causing random stability issues for different people, so it’s worth a shot at least. I’m going to say it doesn’t sound at all like the server/connection though if your videos came up clear.
Things that certainly haven’t changed is like using illusionary leap or stuns. I can visually see it hitting people like 5 feet from them instead of where their character model is.
could it be that OP’s graphic card was overheating ?
anyway try this to improve FPS :
