Before I go on with my problem, here is a brief specification to my computer. I am no noob in these stuff but neither am I a pro.

I’m currently running
4GB RAM
i5-2400
AMD Radeon HD 6770

This computer is at max a year old, and usually I have between 50fps ~ 60 fps at peaceful places. Just about a few months ago, I had this issue where my usual 50fp drops to 5 ~ 7 fps and that is the highest you can get, I have tried reformatting everything and somewhat worked out.

This problem just hit me a day or 2 ago where everytime I play gw2, I get a BSOD in less than 5 minutes or even as soon as I logged on. It do seems like the same problem as before.

I have done a lot of looking around on the internet but there is no real solution because ppl always suggest :

1. “Have you updated your graphic driver?”
2. “Overheat?”
3. “Anything eating into your resources?”
4. “Dust?”
5. “Better card?”

Here’s the thing, the problem struck like immediately, it started with serious BSOD (suddenly), so I tried updating drivers and worked for maybe 24 hours?

My solution to the above points or what I have attempted about those pointers are as follows :

1. I have reinstalled my drivers and even tried playing without one (even went to device manager to remove and reinstall display adapter)

2. My GPU does not go beyond 60 degree celsius, it has no history of overheating, so does my CPU, it is using 3rd party cooler and never go beyond 60 degree celsius as well

3. Nothing is eating into my resources, I have 4GB RAM, and barely 2GB is in use. CPU usage is only at 16% at most when I alt-tab out to check. my GPU clock is running at the maximum clock speed by default.

4. Dust is not so much of an issue for me, I do clean my computer, problems dust cause are mainly overheating which I have no issue with.

5. I do not need a better card since I was able to achieve smooth gameplay before. I am not 100% convinced this is a hardware issue since it has happened to me and was resolved. I do not wish to reformat my PC every time I am met with this problem.

I wish to hear from anyone out there who has encountered the same problem as me, and if anyone has any solution to this problem.

Sorry for the long post.

P.S. I have not overclock any CPU or GPU clocks (I learnt my lesson)

EDIT : In addition to the above mentioned points, I have followed everything on this link already https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-and-Performance-based-issues-1

Maybe defective RAM?

4 gigs of ram is really low. The average I’ve seen in most peoples machines is about 16 GB of ram. I’m running at 8 myself. The game needs space to be able to run and move around files to allow it to run. If it has insufficient space it could cost in performance.

Just my two cents on the matter. I am not an expert on this.

I have resit my RAM, they don’t seem to have an issue

I’m not surprised anyone would say 4GB is low in today’s computing world. Yes, 4GB is low, but it is more than enough to run GW2, not to mention my task manager doesnt even show it using 75% of it.

Question is, why does it suddenly drop? I have search the internet, and apparently some say it was AMD cards that doesn’t utilise the 3D clocks when running GW2, instead it is still running in 2D clocks, resulting in extremely low and bad quality of renders.

Anyone experienced this before?

Almost the same problem. Finished uni for the year and came home started playing on my mother’s laptop ( the reason I sayin this because it is almost brand new, doesn’t have almost nothing installed, solid anti virus and so on; no overheating as well).
8 gb ram, i5 processor, geforce 630 with 2gb. Everything was going well for the first couple of days but suddenly, 2 days ago, I started getting ridicolous frame rate drops, which made it impossible for me to play wvw, but the issue appeared in areas in such as the lost shores as well. It is just absurd because it drops even when I set the grafic options to the lowest and I get below 7-8fps in big battles even when everything is set to minimum.
This just drives me nuts, the game is pretty much unplayable for me right now ;/

I can understand when in big fights, but doing nothing and achieving 7 FPS at best is ridiculous for me. If in a area that is very quiet and easy on the GPU and you still achieve 7 FPS, then it becomes an issue

It has come to my attention that many people are facing the same problem as I do. Crashing, bluescreens, unable to boot after crash, drastic drop in FPS.

Whether is it caused by the game or not, I do wish to hear from Anet devs (if any) if it is caused by the game or not. On a side note, it appears that my other games are somewhat infected by this as well.

When I enter the game, my GPU load immediately shot up to 100% (or 99%). This is become very concerning as I do believe my specs are able to handle the graphics way better than this at my current settings. (Native Render, the rest all set to lowest or none)

The thing is that I was getting consistently higher FPS in big battles as well as in normal play. And while, running alone is still managable large scale combat is a huge frustration. I have noticed just like you that in the recent days there are several of the same complaints, so it must be something going on, pretty sure it can’t randomly happen to several people at the same time
