I would say no. 1080p or even 1440p would probably be fine, but based on my calculations 1800p would get you 30 fps, or course if you played on low/med settings it would be a different story, but why would one buy a 2k laptop to play on medium.

Now for half of that money you would get a desktop that would run the game, but if it has to be a laptop… I’m just a hopeless desktop fan and I can’t even cool the case (sorry for the pun).

No.

Well maybe if you are staring out over the snowscape of Wayfarer Foothills. But in boss events and WvW zergs. At 60fps at max settings at 3200×1800?

No.

870m is a bit slower than a gtx660/750ti so its decent for 1080p but would not be able to handle 3200×1800 with decent frame rates.

Also considering the performance per watt and heat output of the 750/ti maxwell chips, i would highly recommend waiting for a system that uses a 20nm maxwell chip which will greatly improve the heat problems most gaming laptops have and increase battery life. the 870/880m are both still kepler based while the 860m is maxwell, but is a midrange chip with midrange performance.

Do you really want a laptop though? Because you can get so much more in a desktop for that money. If you don’t know how to build one yourself you can even let it be build by a shop.

No laptop is strong enough to run the game at 1800p; at 1080p however 770M or 680M is fine to run at 60 fps while soloing. In WvW, world bosses and whatnot be prepared to drop down to 20 fps tho, that’s what desktops are getting as well.

My vote goes for a Sager, with how poor Razer’s quality control is, I would NEVER want to own a laptop made by them, when they can’t even get peripherals right….

This, Sager/Clevo is probably the best way to go, or perhaps something nice from MSI/Asus. Not to mention that the Razer Blade is hugely overpriced from a specs point of view.

If you wanted a laptop specifically for guild wars 2 gauranteed to get 60 FPS in as much as you can, you should go look towards Alienware or Origin PC (Only two I’m familiar with) or any other custom laptop manufacturer (also check XoticPC) and look for anything with an Intel i7 4930XM w/ GTX 780M or GTX 870M/880M. my 670Mx sees some very minor strain at times on it’s own but it’s the processor that counts the most. However given laptop GPUs are lower power/spec version of Big Brother Desktop cards, you’ll probably want a much higher MOBILE GPU.

The price of those two parts though, GTX 780M/880M with i7 4930XM can price out to more than $1,500 US dollars alone for those two parts. If you’re positive you want to game on a laptop, then be prepared to have your wallet screwed.

OP was thinking about buy a razer blade so i would take his budget to be the msrp of 2100.

Razer blades are not really overpriced. They the same price and feature set as 15" rMBPs or a high end windows ultrabook but with a better graphics card. If anything, i would say considering the features/hardware it has and the form factor, it is an excellent value amongst its competition. Though personally i would wait for nvidia to release a high end maxwell chip first.

Not really overpriced? Where have you been, lol, Razer has some of the worst quality control in the industry.

Btw, for that price you are looking at a GTX 780M or GTX 880M 17" windows lappy ;D But a definitive budget will help us to help him.

It’s about form factor, find any laptop with a similar slim form factor/weight AND similar specs for a significantly lower price. You cant, any ultrabook/mac with a wqhd/retina display is already running around 1700 to 2k and usually thats with intel or a low end nvida chip, add in a 870M and the price would be very comparable. Thats why the new thin gaming laptops from gigabyte/msi are also in the same price bracket and many still lack the wqhd display.

17" doesn’t count because those laptops are huge thick and heavy. Form factor/weight is a feature many find important and are willing to pay for.

MSI just put out a new gaming laptop with a GTX 780M with a high resolution display. (I avoid saying Retina because that’s a silly Apple thing as far as I’m concerned) I think the resolution is around 2880×1620.

Gaming unit priced at $2,200.
It’s a GT60 unit
It’s a 15.6 inch gaming laptop. It’s not Razer Blade thin but it’s certainly closer. Other than that I can recommend any 15.6 Gaming laptop with very high end gamingGPU and CPU.

I would think anything in alienware, MSI, Sager, MacBook(Choke!), in a 15.6 form factor will be perfectly suitable for the OP.

Just gotta get the right CPU/GPU combo.

Though, he might want to wait for the 800 series from Nvidia to come down in price and go that route. That teamed with the latest i7, and he might just get what he is asking for here. But at 1800, Full ingame details, GW2 requires serious hardware to pull that off.

thanks a lot for the replies!!! first time really posting!
$2,200.00 – $2300.00 is the max I’m willing to go. I’ve built since 1998 but never cared to look in a laptops direction till now. my job is mobile and Gw1& Gw2 is the best way (cheapest) way to relax and keep me out of trouble, lol. I have an external Blue ray drive.
thank you so much!????

I own an Asus G75VX with an i7 3630QM and a GTX 670MX and that gets some pretty good FPS for a laptop of the previous generation. The unit brand new cost around 1,400 but with your budget I’d push for a faster GPU. The one in mine is slower than a desktop GTX 660 and you see it when you hit particle effects especially.

Anything with a Haswell i7 4700MQ or even 4800MQ if you want a little boost and a GTX 770M or 780M or 870M if you want.

what are you size and weight requirements? and your preferred monitor resolution?

Are you are ok with bigger 17" units? or is 15" or smaller a must?

Are heavy units that weigh in at around 10lb/4 kilos ok or do you need lighter units in the 5-7lb range?

Are you ok with a 1080p resolution? Or is a high rez monitor a requirement?

Just a few starting points:

Large heavy thick 1080p unit with good specs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231631

Smaller med weight thick unit with high rez screen.:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152555

Large thin light unit with 1080p but only a 765m:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152477
I would wait for this one as MSI is releasing a thin/light 15"/17" GS 60/70 Ghost Pro with midrange 860m maxwell chips and a high res 3K screen in early april.

large thin 2×765m in sli unit @ 1080p (Sold out though):

Or the new razer blade, but apparently according to this thread razer has quality/reliability issues. I’v never used razer products so i don’t have any first hand experience with that.

It sounds like he wants something semi-portal (so less then 17" would be my guess). He also wants it to work at 1800p and be 60FPS on high ingame settings for PVE (probably minus world boss content).

I still think he should wait until the Nvidia 800 series GPUs come down in price and team that with a high end i7.

Using up the entire budget would be an Alienware 18 with dual GTX 780M SLI. The standard features on that monster are absolutely stunning for the price point. However it is an 18 inch laptop. The GPU power will be like a desktop GTX 770 maybe or a super clocked 770 so it will not have ANY graphical problems with GW2. The CPU I think should handle it fairly well too. It’s a heavy noisy beast though but well worth the price in comparsion to for example, Origin PC’s Eon 17 SLX.

the only drawback is that it’s 1920×1080 resolution. Though for a laptop that might be all you’d need with the screen size.
