Hey everyone, so basically the game has a very low framerate and stutters around constantly, even on lowest graphical settings. My computer is a hp-dv7-4070us, and I attached a photo of some relevant specs. Can I do anything to get my computer to run this game?

You can try lowering all the graphics settings, basically. The 2.4 GHz processor is going to slow down the game, overall. Especially in WvW and large dynamic events. And the Intel HD graphics is going to really hurt the framerates as well.

I would say the intel integrated graphics is the biggest factor in low fps for his/her setup. Because it is integrated, there is likely no upgrade option, but getting a whole new laptop or desktop. That or pray/wait that gw2 will be optimized better for lower end machines.

Gw2 is very cpu heavy and not really optimized so 2.4ghz will affect fps, but even people with core i7 need to OC to get decent fps in WvWvW to put in perspective.

On board of that platform you should have

GeForce 9600M GT or Familly of 400/500M series.

Try to enable it from your descopt > Right click > Nvidia control panel > Set default GPU to Max Performance GPU or just pick your Better performance card for GW2 only.

Should help

On the other hand depending how much u Paid for it ( some specs cost 1500$ some 1900 as i checked 4 minutes ago ) You should kill person who sold You that crap if it doesn’t have dedicated Graph card.

Never go for HP latopr for gaming.

Every year theres ASUS/ACER race for laptops called E-machines which offer amazing spec for half price if ya would like to get same spec from other company

Thanks for your replies guys, I should add that playing on my friends laptop, who actually has a 2.3 GHZ processor but has radeon graphics + 6 GB of RAM, the game runs smooth as butter. (albeit on somewhat low graphical settings). So, I thought for that reason the problem might be the RAM.

the difference between core i5 and i7 is that core i7 has more cores. Most cores will not help guild wars 2 much. You need beefier cores

ALeksandar It’s not ram.

This game won’t use more then 2gb of ram, I daubt it even reaches 1 gb as most.

As I posted Try looking for Dedicated graphic card on your laptop menu control panel, if u can’t find it Go download GPU-Z program, and install it.

After running it will detect all graphic cards on board ( youll have small switch at the bottong of window program ) and when you notice that card just look for option to turn it on

As i recall this is DX9 game ? or so. anyway it’s uses only 2 cores. doesn’t matter if u have 8 core high end i7 or i3 or i5. Your GHZ and CPU technology ( in which were they made for example ivy brige at same GHZ will handle this game better then sandy brige ) etc.

Well I noticed one thing that I actually had power-saver graphics on (not battery) when I did what Mrowqa suggested. I changed them to high performance so we’ll see if that makes a difference. If that was really the issue then I really made a fool of myself on this one :P, even after spending hours checking all other settings laboriously.

I highly doubt that ivy bridge is that much better than second gen Ivy bridge. Intel didnt increase the transistor count on the ivy bridge refresh. They did increase the integrated graphics tremendously.

@Aleksandar
I hope you do have a discrete graphic card so you are able to play this game.

well I’ve seen Laptops with totaly no information about Dedicated graphic cards on board which is just dumb when it comes to informing a customer.

And as Your stating That you had Power saver graph on You must have a Ati HD on board as the graph card change look just like you stated for them.

also Give it some times to get used to Dedicated graph it may take a while until it totaly kicks in !

I was talking about Sandy vs Ivy in which case Intel themselves stated and prooved that Ivy brige processors should and are 10-15% faster.

Best example is i3-3120 ( at @3.3 ghz / sandy ) vs i3-3220 ( @3,3ghz Ivy ) which indeed is 11% faster and on same rig you get better FPS in games.

Ok, well at least the game isn’t stuttering anymore, but I have a new problem that everything besides the game menu’s are just flashing polygons everywhere. So, I can go to options and try to change them, even lowest performance or highest performance still creates them. I can see the mini map, the chat bar, but I can’t see the actual world around me because of the big flashing polygons

Reinstall Your drivers.

Im Sure You never ( from moment you bought that pc ) installed them.

Find Exact name of your Graphic card via GPU-Z and go to ATI/Nvidia website and download latest drivers and install them.

Really oh. I heard they did not really do much to the cpu side at all. Same architecture and around the same transistors. It is just a die shrink. I guess 3d transistors made a different. I usually do not trust company leak spec sheets. They usually exaggerate their improvement gains.

Here is a random benchmark that does not show a 11% gain
Although the benchmark is synthetic, the architecture is the same so it should be valid

That 11% I ment for specific i3 3100 vs 3220

Cause im sure that for top end CPU like you mentioned in that link it won’t make that huge difference, and kitten me i can’t find that link with official Intel information and benchmarks

Well it should matter. The difference between high end chip and low end chips is that low end chip have features that are disabled in high end chips.

Usually it is cheaper to make all the chips on the same die and disable those features to differential them on retail

I usually do not trust Intel spec sheet. Like any other company they try to make themselves look better

Well, I downloaded the recommended driver via their automatic check service, but when I tried to open the exe file from the folder it was downloaded into, it said my driver does not support the .exe file. And when I logged in again, I still got the flashing polygons everywhere…I have the ATI mobility radeon 5650 graphics, supposedly.

Although I do not have the same card as you I have an AMD integrated graphic chip set.

If possible try the beta driver. Oh boy they are much better than the stable one.

I believe the beta version is 12.9

Usually oems rebrand drivers to accommodate their own special features. However, your driver is too old

get your driver from the amd website

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

I hope hp didnt do something weird to the card so you cannot use offical amd drivers

I saw that some of you were talking about how GW2 uses CPU cores.

I woud like to inform you that GW2 has 2.5 (2 full use threads 1 half used thread) to 3 major thread processes that affect performance. These processes run all the time and are high load processes.

Meaning along with about 50 other GW2 processes that are on and of and get processed loads of times a second. These 3 need to be kept going.
This requirs a CPU with at least 3 threads (to avoid ‘constant’ bottlenecking). Luckily the Op has a 2 core 4 thread cpu so he isnt bottlenecked by the CPU threads, however hiscpu’s speed will eventualy bottleneck him ..2.4ghz isnt fast enough ..3ghz isnt even fast enough but is a good minimum to set.

Once he gets his GPU sorted .even on absolute lowest settings. he might find that his GPU isnt maxing out and yet he still wont be getting max fps for his screen (likely 60), and this will be down to the procesor core speed.
