Q:
Thinking of Purchasing this Laptop
I’ve actually got two friends who bought that laptop at my recommendation, although they both have the single 750M version and one has the 1366×768 one. The friend with the 1080 one runs on high in PvE without too much of an issue, although larger group events (ie Maw) do cause some drop in framerate.
The other friend (1366×768) just runs on medium all of the time, since he’s too lazy to change settings for WvW. Again, it runs fine, although larger WvW zergs cause lag (it’s their very nature, especially on a laptop CPU).
So, the laptop should by and large run the game fine on higher settings. You’ll only really have issues when there are a lot of people around, as is the case in group events/WvW.
I’m not sure if the game likes SLI, though. I know that it has issues with CF, but I don’t know if that extends to nVidia.

You can get better IMO.

Customize with a 4800MQ CPU and there u have it.
Sager/Clevo have real good prices on CPU’s when u customize, so if u want a better CPU get one of their laptops as it costs less. MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, try adding on a 4800MQ cpu and it adds over $200. Sagre only ask for $185, so u can grab a $1300 stock setup, change the CPu form a 4700mq to a 4800mq for better performance in WvW and other CPu intensive situations all for around $1500. Oh and aroudn that price they all come with a GTX 770m.

A 17.3" laptop that’s over an inch and a half thick isn’t really something that would be great to carry around, before you consider the weight factor.

First question to get out of the way, is this laptop going to be used as a desktop replacement?
Second question I have would be, if NOT a desktop replacement, how much mobility would you be looking for? Where can you see yourself taking the laptop often?
Third, I would agree to go with Sager as well, that being said the +$100 for a gloss screen is absurd. To get a reference on matte vs glossy, those matte screens have ruined so many a display from being great displays. Of course using gloss can have it’s downside if you don’t have a room set up for gloss screen glare.
That being said, I would definitely add a small SSD for boot drive in the lappy, whichever you choose, because that will make you feel at home with a new setup.

Yes, I have a current desktop that runs Guild Wars 2 at full graphics perfectly. However, I’m getting an apartment with a few friends and my desktop is very spacious. It would be a desktop replacement. I don’t mind moving a 17" laptop, where it may be hefty and quite a weight to carry around, it’s not something I’ll be taking on a daily basis, most of the time it’ll be on my desk.
You know if its really just a desktop replacement due to size, why not build a LAN gaming desktop (aka m-itx or m-atx bassed rig) ? Or do u actually NEED to have a portable laptop at times ?

Yeah, if you really are using it as a desktop, there’s no reason to not just get a smaller desktop.

Also since u said u have a rig that plays GW2 to ur satisfaction, building a LAN rig would only cost u as much as a new m-itx or m-atx motherboard thats compatable with ur current CPU, maybe a new CPU cooler if ur current one is to big, and ofc a small M-Itx, or m-Atx case.
it would be ALOT cheaper.
That is ofcourse on the assumption that ur current rig can be used, (i.e ur not leaving it for som1 else)
