*Low FPS Drops. (when it drops suddenly) *
This most likely isn’t your hardware at fault, unless you otherwise know it is, if you have a Laptop check if it supports Shader 3.0 else-wise you should be fine.
Stuttering FPS (where fps becomes jerky and stutters).
Screenshot where and report it, personally I have this in areas with rain, massive particle effects (well expected) and sometimes underwater.
Preferably post it in the mega thread > https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Low-FPS-merged
This thread is perfect for posting the screenshot of where and your system specs if you have the need to show off.
“Do I need to Overclock?”
No, simple answer you probably do not need to Overclock for this game and anyone who tells you that you need to may not know what they are talking about.
There are a select few who could benefit from this but these same people would be better off getting a computer that is new and isn’t 5+ years old.
Always check the specs which most people should be far beyond.

tl:dr wait for a fix stop thinking you are at fault and help make the game better.

Lion’s Arch at stock 3.2GHz – 28 FPS
Lion’s Arch oc’d to 4.7GHz – 40 FPS
(framerate in far top-right)
Wut?

I don’t think most people with low FPS Problems use triple monitor setups.
You are a special case of yes OC can help your performance, most cases it will not.
Still don’t know why you needed to show off your kitten but ok gratz you found a rare condition where it does make a difference.

Wrong, overclocking will help EVERYONE who plays Gw2, regardless of Cpu. Even my cpu slows down in massive WvW’s or Zergs. But at 5Ghz, it’s like a night & day difference.
Until you’ve tried it & know what your doing stop talking crap.

Virtual, those benchmarks are very accurate at all. If they were in a massive Zerg or world event when they did that benchmark the overclocking FPS gains margins would be HUGE.

Sandy’s and Ivy’s in the 4.7-5.2GHz aren’t a “special case”, they’re some of the strongest CPUs on the market. If it helps us, it will help everyone.

For one, the benchs show that AMD CPUs really suck at this game…

I really don’t understand this mentality that people should be “far beyond” the minimum specs. I think there’s an argument to be made that you should be able to run the game on minimum specs. Low quality graphics, no shadows/particle effects/etc. really should let you play with at least 30FPS.

Funny mine at 2.6Ghz stays comfy at at least 40 FPS during WvW and Most Zerg things.
And it doesn’t change the fact that there is a problem with the game software that is making our hardware do more work, which once it’s fixed should make everyone’s computers happier.
Some people can get benefits from overclocking, like the guy with 3 monitors, but most games shouldn’t require or need it and if they did they would explain why and how to do it.

Screenshot or it didn’t happen. Join the <colour>briar zerg and take a screenshot of taking down the gate.
3 monitors means nothing. I get the same FPS with 1 monitor and at 1280×720 on that particular scene.

Set everything to truly “MAX” like I do & your pc will explode. No problem with the game that I can see. Only a lot of QQ’ing from ppl with low end hardware expecting to RUN FULLY MAXED OUT BRO on a $100 laptop.

Post a video of that. I’m sure we would all love to see that.
Anyhow, the only thing I agree with is that game should run better. I don’t know what their recommended specs are, but I’m sure their CPU recommendation is not a i5-2500k @ 4.8GHZ.

Unfortunately ANet’s only announced the minimum. First time I’ve seen a game not have recommended specs post-launch (and first one in a while that loads a single core this much).

1) The game isn’t crysis
2) Buggy Software shouldn’t make you require Better Hardware
And maybe instead of telling everyone to OC their new Expensive PC’s maybe you should use that time to help arenanet by bug reporting the hell out of all the CPU and GPU FPS drops that you can find.
I will post screenshots tomorrow however I shut down my PC an hour ago and I have no intention to get into a he said she said argument about FPS in lion’s arc or whatever.

Delta, Rift did exactly the same thing.
Actually this entire forum is almost a straight copy/pasta of the Rift forum when it went live. But back then, people said I was an idiot for thinking Cpu was the limiting factor. Now, at least most people understand how important a strong cpu is.

@Cheeky: maybe I should report your rig as a bug too while I’m at it.
@Cbuzz: thing is, Rift and SWTOR (and pretty much every game period) had recommended specs listed along with the minimum. The people that were legit above-the-recommended had a reason to complain. ANet and GW2 only have minimum, and people are confusing this for meaning the same as recommended.

I personally never assumed that minimum was recommended. But it seems that there are people above the minimum who cannot play at all. Not sub-par graphics, not less FPS…just completely unplayable.

I think what Anet forgot to mention is what resolution suppose to be on that minimum. You can probably get atleast 30 fps if you play on 1024×768 up to 1366 × 766 with the lowest setting, higher resolution tends to tax the CPU and GPU a lot.
@OP
Overclocking really helps any shape and form. If you have the current or probably intel I core series your CPU Overclocks itself specially CPU demanding task (Ex. Gw2) this what they called as “Turbo Boost”.

Even 1FPS @ lowest on 640×480 is still playing. By definition, minimum makes no promise on framerate, quality, or happiness, it strictly means “it will play”. Whether the bar was set too low for GW2 is a whole other debate.
The few that are above minimum and can’t load or have crashing issues are, from what I see, related to drivers/heat/BIOS/faulty hardware.

I’ve tried at 1280×1024, 1024×768, and window. None work at all…

Well, I’m above minimum, even if it’s not by a ton…I’m running a Core 2 Quad, which is just above. I’m certain that my hardware isn’t faulty, and my drivers are up to date. Temps fine, BIOS is up to date.
The debate about whether the bar was set too low NEEDS to happen, as it is akin to false advertising. The idea that anyone would be interested in the game “just turning on” is, from a business standpoint, asinine.

and this game needs to be optimized why you ask cause ive been at 4.5 and 4.7 with my 3570k oc’ed and i get better frames at stock clocks (3.8) weird…. go figure mind you people did say in beta that theirs a few odd cases out their where some computers will run better and get better fps at stock closkc ( i must be one of them) for the most part i get 30-60 fps but rarely 60 usually 50…. kinda sad considering my build… lol and me oc’ing a while ago to like i said 4.5 and 4.7 to test it and see didnt do jack all i get better frames on stock like i said and above is obviously my setup to prove i aint lieing about this at all. somthing needs to be done about this game cause it isnt coded properly

Resolution, game quailty, and expected framerate is what the recommended settings are for. The ones that ANet never gave, and probably for good reason in the game’s current state.
Take DICE and Battlefield 3 for example. They stated that the recommended hardware will play the game at 720p with the medium preset at 30fps. Not once did they say what the minimum would achieve, and a quick glance at it screams “garbage”.

No, that means something is not set right in your overclock. Check what it’s running at in-game (my guess is it’s going to be 3.4GHz).

lol so wrong i did this 4.5 and 4.7 test for a solid month with occt tests, furmark for my gpu gpu-z up cpu-z up task manger up intel burn test, line pack hw monitor up. good temps proper vcore volts and cpu-z showed 4.5 and 4.7 or i should say 4500Mhz x45 multi and obviously 4700Mhz 47 multi you sir are wrong im not a rookie when it comes to oc’ing i did my calculations properly nice try though.

yep, but just so you’re aware intel burn test and OCCT are better and stress better than prime 95 no bsod’s solid. everything was correct and had gw2 launched and tabbed down checked my cpu-z 4.5 did that with 4.7 and what do you think it read CAN YOU GUESS?

Well, I’m currently running around Lions Arch on a 1.8Ghz C2D Dual core which is UNDER minimum requirements @ 10-20fps. Game is still VERY playable so either you’ve got issues with your system or your settings are to high.

I’m not lying about my settings, they’re all bottomed out. And I’m fairly certain that I don’t have any issues with my system.
