Upgrade, any good and what will I notice?
Anyone? Seems my post has dropped off the page
Keeping the GTX 580, You should see very good FPS with this.
although the chipset on the board might do better as a Z87 but that’s my thoughts.
Overall I think it will be good.

Hello guys,
My first post and I am looking to upgrade my computer, for better performance and it is due
I mainly play Guild Wars 2 but other CPU heavy games such as Shogun2
I would like to know with the below upgrade will I notice a big difference in Guild Wars 2? Performance, Graphics and fps wise? Also if you recommend any changes to my build that could make it better for similar price?
I currently have:
Windows 8 on SSD
CPU: Q9400
Graphics: Nvidia 560GTX
Memory: 4GB DDR2Upgrading to:
CPU: i5-4670 Haswell, 3.40GHz(Turbo 3.8GHz
MB: Gigabyte (GA-H87M-D3H) Intel H87 Micro-ATX Motherboard, Haswell, Socket LGA1150
Memory: Kingston (KHX1600C10D3B1/8G) 1x 8GB Hyper X 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL10 DIMM
With that upgrade you’ll notice quite a bit of performance increase in crowded areas of Guild Wars 2, like WvW battles and dynamic events. This is due to the increased IPC between the age old C2Q you have and the snappy new Haswell processor. In other words, the processor bottleneck will be lessened in some areas allowing for higher FPS. Assuming your older C2Q wasn’t overclocked you’ll also be getting a very nice boost in frequency which affects your single thread performance which is what Guild Wars 2 relies on to run better.
As far as better graphics, you won’t see much difference since your graphics card isn’t being upgraded or changed.
I’m going to assume you’ll be running a 64 bit operating system on this new machine to take advantage of the 8GB of RAM.

Asuming you transfer over your graphics card to the new system u will notice a good increase in FPS in crowded area’s, and even in pve environments if atm your gpu isnt being fully utilized, which i have seen happen with C2Q cpu systems (a gtx 460 wasnt being fully used even in pve due to cpu restraints).

this is a wishlist I made on amazon based on conversations about good gaming builds – the 3 boards I chose are very good overclocking boards – with the gigabyte being the most affordable without compromising much – you can cut corners on a lot of items – but the idea of this build was to get very high end parts – yet keep the build affordable – this build comes out to about 1.4k but if you tried to build this at a site you can customize computers …it would run 3-4k – you can cut corners on the build – but the more you cut the less overclocking power you have – I’ve tried making builds at several sites and what they do is toss in high end stuff you don’t need – like audio or using 4 sli cards. http://amzn.com/w/AIJUZVJNMG13
the first cut you can make is going down to a 1 tb drive – i stayed at 2 because I also do 3D / animation and music – so I need the extra space for assets / plus if I added an ssd in the future the 2tb drive is a nice 2nd drive. – I also stayed with WD as a personal preference, I trust that brand the most, at least in that price range – you can get a less expensive gaming case – but I found this case to be the best in it’s class with the fans and it’s cooling layout which can easily be upgraded with more fans. – you can overclock with other boards – but these boards have military grade parts meant for overclocking, – you can also replace the power supply with a less expensive one but this power supply would allow you to get more daring because of it’s hi grade parts and damage prevention features – if you want to see the price skyrocket – add 4 titans sli lol you can also replace the cpu cooler – but this is the best cooler on the market now according to benchtests – there isn’t much of a big difference between high end water coolers and air coolers, but this particular cooler you can mount on the outside of your case for extra cooling power.

there isn’t much of a big difference between high end water coolers and air coolers,
Tell that to my Corsair H100 and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus. Both are great but in my case, the H100 does a helluva lot better.
lol, i agree, – but this is what the bench test guys were saying. the one I picked in this build is the H100i – which is the extreme version of that line!
which btw – they made that comment based on the Noctua NH-D14 air fan – which I think is considered top of the line for air coolers.

If your case can fit an H100i then great but not all cases can mount a 2×120mm radiator.
@Legacy – Yes you should get a nice kick in areas with lots of players due to the CPU upgrade. But unless you already have single 8GB DDR3-1600 memory stick laying around buy 2, 4GB DDR3-1600 Cas 9 sticks. Memory controllers in desktops have been dual channel for a decade now. Always go with two identical memory sticks over one.
RIP City of Heroes
it fits the corsair vengence case nice, but on further research – one complaint is that it leaks, which is a scary thought when you have it hanging over your power supply and video card! unless you plan to install it outside of your case…..so I just added the Noctua NH-D14 as an alternative to my list. which is less expensive too.
based on this report – http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2013/03/06/cpu-coolers-new-benchmarks/2
and these complaints – http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-Extreme-Performance-H100i/product-reviews/B009ZN2NH6/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&colid=AIJUZVJNMG13&coliid=I1ANZJFYW9DFTR&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0
the difference in performance isn’t enough to make me want to risk rusting or blowing up the pc lol

stop the presses! I just found a cooler that blows away every cooler you ever knew! ( unless you already knew about this one!) very expensive though -
this is the company that makes it –
http://koolance.com/
and this is a video of it on a rig!
OMG!! I want one! ( not like I’ll be able to get it any time soon… but I digress! )

Oh god I want that thing.
and that was their low end version – check this one out 9 120 mm fans!!!! http://www.amazon.com/Koolance-ERM-3K3UC-Copper-Radiator-Cooling/dp/B0055OM69E/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&srs=3033114011&ie=UTF8&qid=1372973282&sr=1-2&keywords=koolance
If u have that kind of money for watercooling ur way better off just building a custom loop

Corsair Force GT 120GB|Samsung Spinpoint F1 Raid 0
in that case it doesn’t get more custom than literally putting a refrigerator in your rig! lol!

The CM H212Plus isnt a top end air cooler, its a very good price/perf cooler, but the best air coolers are like 3 times the price (still cheaper than H100’s and the like). The NH-D14, Silver Arrow, and other competitors are as good as a H100 at clocks & voltages that both can handle. However the h100 can keep going onto higher voltages after the D14 stops being usuable at 85c +.
For example the D14 can arguable handle a 3930k/3960x/3970x at 1.4v but thats it absolute max. After u go above 1.4v the H100 can stay ontop of the heat for a little longer, not much longer, but still.
Most people say that if ur using clocks and voltages that a NH-D14 can handle, dont bother with a AIO water system becouse although they dont take up as much room over the CPU, the radiators can, and with their stock fans they can be rather noisy at load, the D14 on the other hand is pritty much the questest cooler out there with exception of passive ones thanks to the great Noctua fans.

what creeped me out most about the corsair dh100 series was the complaints from users that it was leaking, one guy mentions how he opened his case one day after it was malfunctioning only to find his video card corroded from enduring those leaks. Corsair did reimburse him …but still not a good experience. Then comparing it to the koolance line ( superior water coolers ) the hoses on the dh100 look frail, – I can picture them cracking after about 3 years of heavy OC use – the bad thing about the noctua is that it’s so big – on some boards it overshadows the ram ..so some sticks that are designed tall will bump into it depending on certain mobo designes …..then there’s the case issue that Noctua recommends atleast 15 mm of overhead clearance space in the case. – Then the point that you have to get an adapter kit separately for the 1150 sockets – either purchased or free from the company after you show them proof of purchase …which can be a pita when you have all the parts in front of you but need to wait a few more days for the adapter kit. – the very cool thing about the noctua is that you can remove the fan from the heatsink to clean them off from dust. – It would seem that you get more benefits with the noctua for long lasting use – where as the DH100 is more likely to wear down / become brittle and harder to clean as dust gets lodged in the radiator.

I’m not sure if the hoses are the same for the H50 versus the H100, but I’ve had my H50 for 3 years now and haven’t had any issues with an overclock for about half that time with what is in my signature. Perhaps there are some bad eggs out there, maybe due to shipping even which Corsair should take into account for (at least a little IMO). It just always seems since bad eggs smell bad people comment about the smell more often, but when an egg smells normal or good, it goes uncommented on.
I’ve also got my H50 crammed in the same position for the past 3 years in an ‘S’ curve where the top of the ‘S’ is the processor side, and the bottom of the ‘S’ is the radiator attached to the panel of the case that comes off. Since I wanted the radiator inside the case, the hoses make some fairly extreme bends to create the ‘S’ curve.
Personally, I think Corsair’s products are well made, at least 3 years ago they were. I know their power supplies have gone downhill since then.

wouldn’t hurt to double check every so often though, this guy said his computer was running fine ..till one day it just started acting up – supposedly it’s very small droplets, nothing like a big gush.
