Upgrade to 12gb Ram do or don't?

Using task mgr to look how much you are using was easyr then making this post.
Open task mgr en look how much ram you are using in-game. Im pritty sure to say you have enough, Unless you are running a virtual machine or another game in the background.
I’d say no. I have 8gb of ram and play games from GW2 to Crysis 2. Mix in a few racing games like F1 2012 and NFS Most wanted and i’ve never gone over 40% mem useage.
People might say 16gb is what you should get. Thats just overkill. No game out there (that i know about) use’s that kind of memory.
Save ya money bud.
Maybe you can save money, and try to buy a newer cpu. first generation ones are pretty bad nowadays. I have 16gb ram, and even with 3dsmax + photoshop i’m not hitting the 50%.

I’m not upgrading my CPU unless absolutely necessary. It’d mean I’d have to take out my motherboard since my cooler is screwed on. At that point I might as well build a new PC entirely
My CPU isn’t the limiting factor, pretty sure of that.

My CPU isn’t the limiting factor, pretty sure of that.
I’m pretty sure your CPU is the limiting factor in terms of FPS, especially heavy zerg battles in WvW.
As for ram, its all up to your usage. GW2 won’t benefit, but you can sure multitask more. (Maybe have 150 webpages loaded in background just cuz you can)
Its cheap, if you can afford it why not max it.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
It will make close to no difference in GW2 tbh, i have mine maxed cuz i use it to ram disk some games, other than that 6gb is more than enough for any modern game.
Extra RAm above 6gb wont make any difference in GW2 unles u want to USe RAM disks..in which case u then need to go to 32GB of RAM or higher.
As for what is holding ur rig back now in GW2. Thats ur CPU. It just is.
I understand ur desire to beleve otherwise, but the new Intel CPU’s have much stronger single thread performance.. which is what GW2 runs of mainly.

As SolarNova said, its your CPU. I’m running a 930 @ 4.1 and it’s still the part holding my frames back.
However, as for the discussion about more RAM or not. I initially ran 6GB and it works fine for what I needed it for. That is, just gaming and video/audio encoding. However, I decided to have some fun with my computer and since RAM is so cheap, I bought another 18GB so I could have enough space for a RAM disk just for GW2.

get 48gb ram, and try fancycache on your games drive
http://thessdreview.com/our-reviews/romex-fancycache-review-ssd-performance-at-13gbs-and-765000-iops-in-60-seconds-flat/
with 48 you could give the drive a 32gb cache and still have 16gb for everything else, this would mean load times on apps and games would be drastically faster then what you have now, and at current ram prices, it would be pretty cheap to max out that board(afik true max on those tend to be 48gb, so do go higher tho)

It’s a nice idea. But isn’t there already a system to use a ssd to do this kind of work ?
I wouldn’t by all that ram if i can get a ssd for the same money. having 16+ Gb ram is totally useless or the next 5 years (or more) Better spend money on something else first.
yeah and all anybody will ever need is 640k ram….(old joke if you dont get it….google it)
and no, windows by default dosnt cache to ssd or the like, theres software for that, but this software can actually do both, you can use an ssd or flash drive as L2 cache.
this is also many many times faster then any ssd honestly….my load times in tera are aroud 1.5-2seconds…..

You really don’t need a 32gb cache.
depends on the game, I have a few that could fill the cache by themselves if the whole game where cached.
I currently am giving my games drive a 16gb cache, my windows drive a 1gb cache, the cache for the games drive makes for almost instant load times between maps/areas/into the game for games like tera and warframe, gw2 gains from it as well but, I have been playing more of the other games because, honestly, they are currently in better shape then gw2 is. they run better, they look at least as good gfx wise….
oh and you can put a cache on each hdd/volume you have, or you can just put cache on drives you want to cache….
if you have only 1 hdd, fancycache would also cache your browser, and other most used apps, making load times far better then windows superfetch manages to do.

Game’s don’t cache themselves completely on a cache. Most only cache textures and other things that are related to loading maps and such
go for it. I am currently buying a new laptop that comes with 12 and I am immediatly going to 16
If you have sata hdd of 6Gb/s i really don’t see why you need 32 Gb cache. It is already pretty fast. I have 16 Gb ram, and all hdd are sata. Maybe i need a few seconds to load a game, but i’m fine with that. It is still faster than 60% of all players.
Those 16gb ram are already enough i guess for compensate the speed on the hdd.
I have a ssd where windows is running, so when i’m just on windows, the hdd go in sleep mode. They are less used that way, and last longer.
16 gb is already a little overkill, so 32 is really a waste. By the time you gonna need all that they will be old and dusty :P (maybe when that time come the frequency is faster.) But all this stuff is just a matter of how much you want to spend in the computer.
You can spend 3000$ for 64gb ram and some other bad kitten stuff. But you will still only use 50% of the power you have. So i prefer spending 1500$ now to get the best, and in 4-5 years, buy new parts who are better than those you bought in the 3000$ pc.

It might be. GW2 is a very CPU-bound game so unless your videocard is terrible your CPU will usually be the limiting factor. Then again, your videocard is pretty old as well, so it could be that instead. Then again, if you get 30fps in Lions Arch thats not bad, I have a Radeon 7970 and an i7 3770k and I still often drop that low in Lion’s Arch.
Either way, it’s nothing to do with your amount of RAM, GW2 is not gonna use much more than 2GB. Running the entire game from a RAM-drive is gonna drastically improve loading times but it isn’t going to help your FPS much.

no but fancycache will cache any files your accessing/using much to cache if you have the ramcache setup with room for them.
clearly you didnt look at the link https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fthessdreview.com%2Four-reviews%2Fromex-fancycache-review-ssd-performance-at-13gbs-and-765000-iops-in-60-seconds-flat%2F
this time look into what fancycache is and how it works.
