When I installed Guild Wars 2 at launch, I got the message stating that my graphic driver was known to have issues and that I should update it to a beta version of that driver. I did so and later noticed that some of my other games were not playing as well. It wasn’t until today that I realized they started acting weird after I had updated and I redownloaded the older version and now my games run well again.

I wonder, what will happen if I do not upgrade back to the beta version suggested by the installer? The message states reduced client performance and such, but how much? Is it drastic? I only ask because it made the other game I currently playing (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood) nearly unplayable by causing frame rate issues that are not there with a previous version.

I ran around Divinities Reach for a bit and did not notice any issues, so that is why I am asking what I might experience if I do not upgrade.

My current version is 301.42 Nvidia and it suggests upgrading to 304.79 Beta Nvidia.

Thanks for any help!

301.42 runs horrendously with GW2. Upgrade or use an older driver.

I will not compromise my system’s stability with a beta video drivers for a “couple of FPS” in one game when I can potentially break multiple games compatibility.

And, as far as “runs horrendously”… That’s worth nothing. Give me hard numbers and facts. Not a personal opinion.

Thank you.

Beta drivers won’t compromise your PC stability.
For instance, when I was using those drivers on my 550Ti Nvidia gfx I had around 30-35 FPS in PVE and around 10 FPS when fighting in WvWvW.
When I updated the drivers it gave me a pretty decent boost and now I have around 60 FPS most of the time in pve and around 30 ish in WvWvW. Not to mention it’s not only the FPS, the game runs far better. The flickering terrain effect now doesn’t occur anymore and few other issues I had with water or character armor details are now looking far better and are showing properly.

The drivers actually improved some of the other games as well. Just because it says BETA doesn’t mean it’s not working properly.

There is a new beta driver out, version 306.02, have you tested this with both GW2 and Assassin’s Creed?

The potential for problems is there, that you agree with it or not. If no set of drivers have made WHQL yet since May 2012, there’s got to have some problem, somewhere wouldn’t you agree? Think about it.

The flickering terrain effect now doesn’t occur anymore and few other issues I had with water or character armor details…

I don’t run the beta drivers and I’m not experimenting that problem, or any other, except for what I consider a low FPS amount.

Just because it says BETA doesn’t mean it’s not working properly.

I never said they were inherently bad either. All I said was I don’t want to risk it. Only GW2 is having rendering slowness, wth would I take that kind of risk? There’s no reason. OTOH, if I judged there was a worthwhile fix in the beta drivers I would, most likely, switch to that version. Sadly, the changelog doesn’t say much.

Guess it depends on the card. I have GTX275 and been running 301.42 drivers without issues (i.e. graphic issues). My policy is therefore: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

All WHQL certification means is that the drivers are digitally signed by Microsoft. /rolleyes

With the rate that drivers are updated for new games having each and every release digitally signed is not practical, at all…
