Q:
What is needed to run GW2 at Max settings
PVE or PVP? What kind of player are u? Casual, hardcore, do u spend a lot time in WvW?
In 2016 Intel will release a CPU on a 1nm chip capable of maxing out the game in 60 FPS in all GW2 scenarios.
You need to get a time machine.
Get a Intel 2550k cpu + motherboard ..or a 3570k cpu and motherboard. make sure which ever u get, you also get a good cooler. Then OC to around 4.3ghz (3570k) or 4.5ghz (2550k).
The GPU is fine. Im runing a OC’d 560ti and get perfectly playable framerates.
As for monitor.. tbh i dont know ..i honestly dont like any of the current monitors available since none of them can do 1600p or 1440p + 120hz atm.
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |
You could try a Catleap monitor (graded iMac panel in a korean case) – look up 120hz.net, or the overclock forums.
I’ve just bought a ‘budget’ 27" AOC E2752VQ , and it’s loverly. Modern panel technology is either TN (cheap, but better colour replication & response time) or IPS (wide viewing angle, can be higher res).
General consensus is that TN = gamer screen, unless you can afford a very high end IPS that can match the TN for response – hence the Catleap, which are one variant of repackaged ‘grey import’ monitors built around not-A+ Apple panels. Some are 120hz+, and sell for about £300-400 – only via Ebay though.

First of all get Ati card instead of Nvidia. They seems to preform better in this game due to bandwith of data etc.
Also an i5-2500k/i5-3570k will do.
I’d even risk with new AMD CPU an FX-8350 wchich isn’t far away from intel CPU ( o5-3570k ) and oc’s with no problem to 4,9Ghz

Interesting, my impression just from monitoring the feedback on here was the opposite. Did anyone do the work to pull together a list with graphics cards and reported FPS for comparison?
4GB ram and a quad core AM3 CPU can do fine, you didn’t list what kind of motherboard you have. The Phenom II 955BE and 965BE or 960T’s (unlockable to 6 cores) are still floating out there.
Also I installed Windows 8 yesterday as my Windows 7 HDD died and the game seems to scale across multiple cores better than it did in Windows 7 for me, I’m not getting FPS drop spikes anymore. How strange, gonna see how Planetside 2 plays since PS2 capes 1 core like crazy.
Intel i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz | 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 ram | Gigabyte R9 280X 3GB (14.2)
Win 8 Pro 64bit

It doesn’t seem like a placebo because we have people with gtx690s and 2×680s and 2×670s getting horrific fps on a decent cpu as well. Im not saying thats the case for all nvidia users but it does happen quite often. I only go down to 30 fps in giant events where everybody is spamming their abilities at the same time. I normally get 80-200 fps in pve depending on what Im looking at and get a pretty solid 55-60 fps in big cities like the black citadel and LA.
/ 2x XFX R9 290x in Crossfire
Game is poorly optimized. Probably you will not satisfy even after system upgrade or you have to pay at too much costs to your CPU and its cooling systems for OC.
My suggestion is dont upgrade your system JUST for this game, if you are OK with other games. Wait optimization fix (which is i believe never will happen). Or wait next generation CPUs (probably 2014 CPUs) maybe they can handle this game without OC.
Another thing I would suggest you buy (unless you already have one) is a solid-state drive. Apart from the overall performance boost to your PC, I suspect it helps GW2 run a bit smoother! I’m running a non-OC Phenom 965BE with 8Gb of DDR2 RAM and a 550GTi video card (2Gb version). Now according to most threads on the subject, I’m completely underpowered for this game – but apart from “heavy zergs” I can pull a not-too-shabby 20-35 FPS at Max settings (when I want to look at the pretty stuff).
If I set to ‘choose best setting’ it averages about 45-60. I think it’s my SSD..

I think it’s nvidia kepler 6xx related error or possibly driver issue nvidia have to fix. I get very good performance on my setup. 560ti sli is a little faster then a single 670 unless vdram is an issue.
2600k at 4.6ghz and 2x 560ti sli.
Screen shot is me running with max settings 120fps (i got adaptive vsync on so it’ll never go above 120fps)
And also a performance log from me playing, doing events and some solo, pretty typical stuff really. Again, keep in mind the 120fps cap but you can see it never dropped below 60 even during events. the heavy drop spikes in gpu usuage is me opening and looking at the map screen.
So i get similar performance as you do, including in cities.
Listen,
I’m a Systems Analyst, the best performance you Will get is from utilizing these steps:
1.) Get More RAM (4GB is fine, I recommend 8GB (all U’ll need)
2.) Get a Quad core (preferably i-series (no FSB limiters)
3.) Get a Dual SLI channel motherboard (2x – 16x)
You will be all set.
Setting set custom on highest + 1080p. My range is roughly | Min: 75 ~ Max: 270
My Specs:
i5 750 (OC’d @ 4.0Ghz)
12GB Corsair ddr3 1600
SLI Superclocked EVGA 460’s (1GB cards each)
1000w Coolermaster PS
NZXT Zero 2 case (Full Tower)
Noctua u12p (Heatsink)
6x Scythe 120mm fans

I think there is coding issues with Guild Wars 2… or some optimizations need attention badly. I ran into FPS problems in lots of gameplay with an FX 8150 8 core, 16gb ram, 5870 1gb video. I have tried many different builds of PC’s all seem capable of running a lot of newer games with ease…both INTELS and AMD’s…but this game has issues with it. I am a Guild Wars fanboy who has over 30+ rank in Hall of Monuments and I may go looking for Greener Pastures due to the poor performance in this game. Another game you can try with bad programming/performance is Alice: The Madness Returns … anyone with that game knows what i mean. Some levels are smooth as silk and some levels don’t use much CPU or GPU and you get 5fps for no apparent reason. And its not my PC when thousands of other users have the same issue from both the INTEL and AMD worlds… It boils down to poor engineering… The Asurans are right! Don’t let a booka program a technologically advance video game!
