What settings can my computer run GW2 at ?
Ultra? NO, shadows and reflections are bugged which means they impact ur FPS very bad when turning the camera arround, no matter what kind of setup u have, if u turn shadows to high and reflections OFF (This is an advise straight from Anet btw, which means they are aware of their engine failure) u will get respectable frames. I would suggest turn everything as high as possible except for the Shadows (high only), reflections turned off and sampling to native, u don’t really need supersampling unless u play on a 40+ inch TV and that option will impact ur FPS (on PVE specially, not so much for WvW), it still might be enjoyable with supersampling on but it will cause extra stress and heat on ur card aswell.
Friends (and some other places I’ve read online) play the game on high on worse specs with better fps, I don’t know what to dooo .
I did the things you told me .
Keep in mind its fairly difficult to get a real ‘apples to apples’ compare of different computers as its almost impossible to do the exact same thing in game.
Simply looking in slightly a different direction can impact frame rates. Using the built in FPS gauge vs Fraps/Afterburner/Precision external gauge can influence what you think your getting.
Unless your thinking of dropping some $$$ on some new hardware I would not worry about what frame rates others are getting. Depending on what area your in and where you are looking this game performs poorly on very high end hardware.
You have to play with some of the settings yourself to see what works and does not work for YOU and your computer. Almost ALL of the settings can impact frame rates.
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.
i7-2600K/8G/GTX570SLI/WIN7/Stereoscopic_3D
With that rig you can set all settings to max except the following.
Relfections : Terrain and Sky (you dont need to turn if Off)
Shadows : High (not Ultra)
Sampling : Native
You might be able to set sampling to supersampling, test it out yourself.
Just remember that in LA, WvW battles, And BIG pve events, you will likely drop below 30 fps due to the CPU, but everywhere else should be fine.

I get 10 to 20fps in populated areas with lower settings (no reflections, medium shadow) and in areas with just myself I go from 40 to 55fps and when people enter the frame it drops to about 30 to 40fps .

I compared every part of me and the person I’m talking abouts PC and his parts are usually on par or worse then means, and he gets A LOOOTTT better fps then me .
Is your FX8350 OC’d ?
If it is not, then that is why your fps is tanking in populated areas.
The FX8350 is AMDs best cpu to play GW2 with but it still doesnt compare to a OC’d Intel i5 which is really what u need to play all of GW2 without droping below 30 fps.
However OC’ing the AMD is the only way to get close to that kind of performance. You NEED to have it OC’d if you want better fps. I honestly dont know enough about that specific cpu to tell you what OC it can mange, but basicaly, OC it as far as your cooler allows.

That chip is designed to be overclocked if you want top notch performance. Alot of the game benchmarks are with that being overclocked. Search on the web for overclocking tips for that specific cpu.
