Q:
Been playing GW2 on a notebook from 2006 ( yes I know.. but what works, works) However I finally have some funds to build a new decent desktop but I’m a bit torn on which gpu to use.
Hardware Spec:
-CPU & Clock speed -i5 3470K (3.20GHz)
-Motherboard model -MSI Intel Z77 Express Z77A-G43
-RAM -8 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
-OS -Windows 7(most likely will be upgraded to 8 )
-HD -Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 (Gw2 is installed on this).
Game setting
Display Resolution -Full Screen-1680X1050
As I also use design/simulation programs such as Autcad I found that the GTX6xx series performed better than radeon. So I mainly searched for an affordable gpu of that series which brought me to the gtx650. However I got people saying that the radeon 7850 is way better for gaming and others saying the same about gtx now I need your help deciding which one to pick
choices:
Asus GTX650-DCT-1GD5 € 130,-
Club3D Radeon HD 7850 royalQueen € 160,-
Asus GTX650TI-DC2T-1GD5 € 160,-
Asus GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 € 230,-
The gtx660 is a bit out of my reach but if people are extremely enthusiastic about it I may consider it.

I advise you get ether a 660ti or a 7950.
if they are to expensive then try for a 7850 or 560ti or even a 7870.
650(ti or not) vs 7850 the 7850 is easyily better.
This is a good indicator of what each one stacks up as. Do note that as with everything there will always be differences and exceptions.
For example AMD latest divers have made most their cards a good % faster than when they released.

Yes, the 7850 is probably the best GPU for price/performance in terms of being able to play GW2 on High settings @ 60fps. Paired with an i5 cpu, the 7850 is the best gpu w/ performance for the price being able to max out the graphics settings @ 1080p.

From the above site I picked the scores from the chart
1,832 Asus GTX650-DCT-1GD5 € 130,-
2,724 Asus GTX650TI-DC2T-1GD5 € 160,-
3,695 Club3D Radeon HD 7850 royalQueen € 160,-
3,978 Asus GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 € 230,-
4,627 Asus GTX660 TI-DC2OG-2GD5 € 290,-
So yeah the 7850 is the better choice in terms of price for gaming as Shuyin said. I guess it boils down to whether I’m willing lay down another 70 just for Autocad and such.
Thank you both very much.
If anyone has experience with these cards and/or programs on how they perform, I’d love to hear about it. At 31 Dec I’ll most definitely already have made my choice so do not bother to post after that.
I havnt run any of them specificaly but..
I run a Gigaybte GTX 560ti Super OC edition. Which will easily score as good if not better than a stock 7850.
With this i can run GW2 at 1920×1080 max settings aside from the usual. I run normal sampling, reflection on terrain and sky and shadows on High not ultra, and stay above 30 fps even in massive WvW battles.
Now granted being able to sustain 30 fps in WvW battles is down to my CPU but in really big fights my GraphicsCard is actually what is lowing my FPS since its maxing out.
PVE i usualy have between 45 to 60 (caped by vsync).
So bassicaly anything above a 560ti specialy if its a OC’d model can handle GW2 suitably with great eye candy.
I cant comment on Autocad im afraid.
