A few months ago my computer started to shut of randomly. Then it stopped, a few weeks ago when trying to install GW2 My computer would also shut down, I found out i had a virus, removed it GW2 installed fine, I’ve been playing for about two weeks now. And now all of a sudden, My computer shuts down when I launch the game or, When i’m playing in the game, I know it’s not my PSU, because I can run games like BnS and Tera fine, anyone know whats up with this? i’m also sure it’s not a virus ran a scan twice with, Malware Remover from Microsoft, MBAM, and HitMan.
Randomly turning off PC’s can be a LOT of things.
Post some system specifications, it may be helpful for others to help you:
Motherboard: model?
CPU: model and speed?
Memory: amount and speed?
PSU: brand, model, wattage?
GPU: model?
Are any of your components overclocked?
Is this ONLY happening with GW2 related tasks?
Have you monitored the temp. of your CPU and GPU?
It would be useful to run some system stress tests to see if they also cause a shutdown. Please make sure to monitor CPU and GPU temps while running these tests.
The random shutdowns could be caused by thermal throttling.
CPU Tests: Prime 95, OCCT.
GPU Tests: FurMark.
(Please be careful with the above applications… They make your components very hot and if you do have a thermal problem it can cause damage…)
RAM Tests: Memtest86+ (Needs to be run from a bootable USB stick / DVD)
Monitoring:
CPU Temp: RealTemp
GPU Temp: MSI Afterburner etc.
Guides are available online for using the above applications, please read them if you are not familiar with them. Find out the normal load temps. for your CPU and GPU and if the tests push them over that then cancel the tests.

I have a very bad PC, It runs GW2 Fine.
MY CPU is – AMD Phenomenon™ 9150e Quad Core Processor (4 CPUs) ~1.8gGHz
Memory: 2048 MB
I cant check PSU doe.
My GPU is ATI Radeon HD 4200 (Yes I know it’s integrated)
It’s all I can find for now.
is this as laptop, or desk top?
either way, sound like it’s over heading to me.
Don’t be so sure it isn’t the power supply. Those other games may not be stressing your PC components like GW2 does.
I would substitute a known good power supply to eliminate that possibility first thing.

MY psu is 400 W – Coolmax 400W SATA&20/24pin Power Supply V-400
That’s a pretty weak PSU, but you did mention you use onboard graphics so it’s probably sufficient.
As someone above me said don’t be too sure it’s not the power supply… This game really hammers a computer, my components run hotter in GW2 than they do on something like Battlefield 4.
Do you know someone with a PSU you could borrow? Hook that up and see if you have the same problems.
If it does turn out to be the PSU try and replace yours with a known good brand, cheaper PSU cause many problems from things like voltage ripple. Corsair PSUs are always a safe bet and you can get a Corsair CX 430W for about £35 GBP.
If you still have the same problems using a known good PSU, it’s worth checking your temps as I said in my first post. Many components have thermal throttling and protection on them.. if they get too hot your computer will shut down to save them burning out.
When it happens, is it just an instant power off, or do you get a blue screen (BSOD)?
Instant power off would suggest a PSU / overheating problem, blue screen could be many other things!

so, not a laptop. But i still say its overheating.
Stock heatsink?
Run your task manager while GW2 is running, also use something like speedfan or HWMonitor, or coretemp to monitor your cpu temps.
let us know what temps you are seeing, and if cpu usage is maxed out in task manager or not.

I ran with Task Manager it’s about 30-58 % CPU, I’ll try with a thing like speedfan and HWMonitor

I don’t think its Temp’s because it sometimes even shutdown as soon as I press play. And it just shuts off nothing else. Boots up normally no BSOD. I forgot to mention it’s really cold outside. And the shutdown usually only happens when it’s cold outside.
yeah, im starting to side with the others about the possibility of a bad power supply.
If your load is only 30-58% you probably are not getting that hot.

if its bad, then why can i play other games?
if its bad, then why can i play other games?
Because GW2 is about the most demanding game out there.
Besides, you can’t be implying its GW2 thats the problem. Because the same logic would apply “if its GW2, then why can thousands of others play it without shutdowns”

I never said GW2 shuts my computer I down, I said when I play my computer shuts down.

Because given AV’s and the like don’t find anything does not mean the computer is clean or that the infection you had before did not damage the system in some way.
I would DL and run combofix, then run the system file checker to check for missing or corrupt files.
After that DL programs such as coretemp and OCCT, so we can see what kind of temps your computer is running at load and if loading up the CPU/GPU can reproduce the crash. Also check your minidump folder to see if there are any crash logs, just because you don’t see BSOD’s now does not mean there will not be helpful files in it.
