Computer Spec:
- Intel Core i7 2600 (3.40Ghz / 8MB / LGA1155 / Quad Core)
- Gigabyte 4xDDR3
- NVIDEA Quadro 2000, 1GB GDDR5
- 2x G.Skill 8GB (2×4GB) DDR3 Kit, PC-12800 (1600Mhz)
- Corsair 120GB SSD, 2.5", SATAIII, Read 500MB/s
- Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64bit

I know my Graphics Card is not gaming I use this computer mainly for 3d rendering and AutoCAD.
I suppose my first question is should my rig run the game smoothly?

So has my computer suddenly become under powered because my frame rate went from 70 to 10 on medium graphics, I can get it to 30fps on performance settings but thats not even worth playing the game imo.
I read somewhere that a patch is doing this to some people?
I recently installed a 300mps PCI-express wireless adapter – could that somehow have caused this? although even when I plug in the ethernet cord it still lags.

Help always appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have the same exact problem :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Graphics-Lag-Low-FPS-After-Latest-Build/first#post583111

This occurred after the latest build. I tried various ways even did all the troubleshooting that this forum can offer but nothing. I even reformatted my pc just for the issue, reverting drivers, registry cleaning nothing. It’s all up to Anet now.

Your right, it’s not a gaming card. GW2 requires a strong GPu to run smoothly, which unfortunately you don’t have.

the quadro 2000 is just a gts450 so its a fairly weak card sadly, if you need a cheap way to get more perf check out what cards from AMD can be softmoded to firepro 3d.

I know a friend of mine runs a 5870 softmoded to v8800

ifyour in the states, you could try geeks.com for good videocard prices, they had a cheap 7770 (good card for the money).

hmm, the Quadro 2000 cost me like $750 AUS i think it was, I wouldnt of thought it was a soft card … it is more focused on 3d rendering not gaming, they are quite different I thought so cannot really compare them. I’m not an expert just going of what I was told.

Is it possible to switch between graphics cards, say if I had a big project on I could just switch back to the Quadro?

I’m not quite sure what softmoded means. But my computer is only 1 year old and has been running this game fine until the patch…

Just for arguments sake what would you change in my setup to enhance gaming ie guild wars.

thanks for the feedback, love the support.

cheers

Softmodding the card will end in tears & wont suddenly make it any better than it currently is.

Get a proper gaming card like a 660TI/670/HD7950 ect… Quadro’s just are not meant for gaming.

depends on how much your cad program actually uses the quadro features of the card your using, and yes rendering cards cost more, because they market them to a limited market, its why you can find very low end quadro’s for insane prices.

softmoding as i was refering to it was to use moded software to run a “game” card as a “rendering” card, quadro’s and gaming cards are using the same chips, just different drivers that enable some features for those using firepro/quadro cards, softmoding last i checked only works on some AMD videocards as nVidia has gone to great lengths to block such mods on their cards.(mostly because they want the 3-5x price they get for the quadros)

Cbuzz, this game dosnt need any more then a 7770 at 1200p or 1080p, specially with the latest driver.

depending on the OP’s budget he may want to get a 7870 or 7950, I see more people with nVidia 5 and 6 series cards having issues with this game lately, thats why I havent been recommending them, I think theres some kind of driver or hardware issue with some cards…..(factory overclocked cards regularly need underclocked back to nVidia specs to stop crashing)

and to the OP,you could swap back and forth if the desktop card couldnt do your work at an acceptable level.

My buddy who has a 7770 wanted me to point out, the 7770 is actually fine for 1440p(2560×1440) as he uses the same in game settings I do(Down sampling)
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD7770-PCIE-1GB-PB-R&cat=VCD
109usd.

another option for cheap is
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD6870-PCIE-1024-PB&cat=VCD
or
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ATI-HD6870-1GB-PB&cat=VCD

any of the above can play the game at 1440p without issues(i use 6870’s, even when setting it to use 1 card i have no issues at 1440p outside WvWvW where everybody has fps issues)

if you got the money get a 7870 or 7950 and use the latest beta drivers from amd, those cards are still getting nice across the board perf boosts with driver updates

Don’t listen to this guys, Nvidia Quadro and ATI fireGL are designed for autocad, maya 3ds max, and those kind of things. Nevertheless Ur Nvidia Quadro is Hardware identical to a gaming card, they only differ on drivers. It would be a awfull waste of money if u mode ur card to a gaming card. A 100$ card like GTX 650ti or a radeon HD 7770 will be more than enough to get decent performance on this game. And ur quadro is much more powerfull than those 2 cards. So u are probably suffering a driver related issue. Try use windows sistem restore to restore ur computer settings to a date before u noticed the frame rate sudenlly dropping. This wont touch ur files just windows configuration and registry.

He got a Quadro 2000. Peformance wise, according to PassMark software benchmark, the closest GeForce equivalent of the current generation would be GT 640. GTX 650ti is almost 2x as fast as this Quadro model.

Is there a reason why you have to use Quadro in ur rig? I’m a professional 3D artist too and I use a GTX 670 4GB for Maya / Modo / Mari at home with multiple monitor setup. Never have any problem. The price / performance ratio of the Geforce card is much better than the Quadros, unless there is certain critical bug preventing you from using Geforce in these graphics software. But from my experience, my hardware display in these software on my home computer is much faster than the Quadro 4000 equipped stations at work.

I would suggest changing to one of the newer Geforce if your budget allows. I wouldn’t recommend using Radeon as a replacement because their OpenGL support is not as good as Nvidia’s. (Not trying to troll AMD / ATI, but I used to own a Radeon and it broke my Maya display until an individual driver engineer emailed me a beta driver that is not publicly released.)
