Dear Arenanet, I love your game and all, but WHY do I disconnect so much. I disconnect so many times and 9 out of 10 times during a story line, which makes me do the stupid mission ALL OVER AGAIN. And while I disconnect, I am googling why I’m disconnecting. I’m even writing this during a disconnect, proving it’s not my internet. And I can always get back on immediatly after I lagged out. So is it a story line bug or something or what the eff is going on.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the rage, but I wasted hours and hours in repeating missions just because I disconnect 15mins in.

Hi Thom,

At this time, I would like to gather some information regarding the way your network connects to the Guild Wars 2 server. To do this, we will use Guild Wars 2 built in diagnostic tool, which I have outlined how to use below:

(Note: If you have not installed Guild Wars 2 yet, you can still use these instructions, just rename “GW2setup.exe” to “GW2.exe” and follow the instructions below)

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder
2. Right-click on “Gw2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Right-click on “Gw2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”
4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”
5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”
6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
7. Your target line should look like this: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -diag
8. Click OK to save your changes.
9. Open “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.
10. Once completed, click “View Results.”

Once opened, locate the section labeled “Tracing network paths” which will look like this:

================ = Tracing network paths ================

Copy this entire section until you reach the next section called “Running DirectX diagnostic,” which will look like this:

================ = Running DirectX diagnostic ================

Once copied, please paste that data into your reply so we can review it.

I’ve just started playing the game again yesterday after a long absence. Or rather I was hoping to play the game again, but so far I haven’t been able to stay connected for much more than five minutes at a time with any of my old characters in any zone I’ve visited.

I ran the diagnostics (I’m currently located in Sofia, Bulgaria – used to play from Denmark) and here are the results:

any resposne bout this?
An anet tech support agent told me it is due to “server hopping”, something you guys can’t fix and neither can we players.

That is not acceptable. If this is truly the problem, they can look forward to shutting down GW2, because no one wants to play a game that dc’s constantly. Regardless of how good the game is otherwise. We need to see someone take responsibility for these issues. You cannot just continue to accept people’s money for a broken game.

There is clearly something wrong with Anets US serves, i don’t know what – maybe Eotm is too much for them to handle. Anyway, game became unplayable for number of players now and it would be nice, if anet would take care of the issue – at least tell us you know the issue exist and you are working to resolve this.

It also would be nice, to get answer to very simple question – why week ago (before eotm patch) game war working completely fine and now isn’t working at all.

With that kind of logic then everyone should have this issue and everyone does not. So the problem doesn’t lie with Anet’s servers, it lie in the crappy outdated over stressed internet in this country and how you are bing routed from your ISP to the game servers.

good question – i saw people form US, ASIA and Europe with different ISP having same issue so they must have something in common. I think my logic works fine – anet did something which affect small by significant number of players.

Will you do a tracert from command prompt?

tracert 206.127.158.1

and paste that here.

Actually I think it’s likely my particular problem can be entirely discounted based on the 20 minutes test I just did.
The last week is the first time I’ve attempted online gaming on my current router (and ISP) and I’ve also had intermittent lag and disconnect issues in several of the other games I’ve tried.

Just for the hell of it I decided to try plugging in a net cable instead of using wifi – even though I’ve never noticed any obvious problems with downloads and the like – and all problems are gone in the three games I’ve just tested.

Could just be coincidence of course, but that seems very unlikely as it was lag spike after lag spike and disconnect after disconnect mere minutes earlier on wifi.

I hope the rest of you can find a solution to your problems – which I’m sure are of a different origin if you’ve had no issues before – but it seems like this was it for me.

well regardless you have a network issue outside of your ISP

3 32 ms 32 ms 31 ms 195.16.161.82

you should not be seeing 32MS of latency to close to your ISP.

Since it didnt resolve, I dont know who that belongs to. but you should be able to call your ISP and have them figure it out.
