Will more RAM give me better performance?
2gb’s is not enough. 32bit non-LAA game executables can and will use that by default as long as windows does not require the biggest chunk which it does.
You barely have enough to run your OS comfortably unless your running a bare linux distro. Your system will chug and hold back many components performance while it tries to hussle and juggle the memory when running a game. You system is constantly trashing your HDD using it as virtual memory for just about every move it needs to make.
I say upgrade, skip 4gb at this point and get 8gb. Or consider upgrading everything except your HDD’s.
K, ill consider upgrading the components..

Smart decision. If you need some help with that use this thread , i’l subscribe to it.

CPU
Intel > AMD
a 3ghz intel is about as fast as a 2.3 intel and you dont want 2.4ghz you will want 3.2 at least and overclockable at that (my intel i5 2500k runs at 4.5 and is as easy to do as flicking a switch)
Also more cores is not more better
4 cores tops anything above that goes unused unless your using some high end specialised software
VIDCARD
in my experience nvidia has the least issues and best mid and high range performance
MEM
8gb will do you fine i got 16gb but i use it for music production software aswell , 1333 or 1600 would be fine no need to get the higher speed memory at all.

You need 4Gb and a 64bit operating system to be comfortable with modern applications.
So to you question: Yes

The only time RAM will affect your FPS is when you don’t have enough. As it will start writing to your HDD/SSD and cause major lag.
You only need about 3GB of unused RAM for effective gaming use. More than that is not going to change anything.
If you want to increase your FPS then upgrade your CPU or GPU.

Unless you are running other applications while gaming- like a voice app, web browser, etc.
Exactly. My opinion is that 2gb isn’t enough. It’s true that GW2 isn’t using all 2 gb but the minimum requirement for Win 7 32 bit is 1gb. Since that’s isn’t much and you’re only having 2gb i would say atleast 3gb for 32bit.

Hi!Mi game runs mid-smoothly, but it loads the map areas way too much.Right now i have 2 GB of RAM.If i get 2 more will it encrease my performance, or at least should it lower to load times? Here are my specs.
Processor: AMD Athlon™ II X2 215 Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Video:Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 512 VRAM
2gb hasn’t been enough for many years now. I can’t even remember the last time I saw a 512mb GPU for sale. It looks like you’re long overdue for a new PC.
Edit: That computer looks ancient so it’s possible you have a 32 bit OS. If that’s the case about 3.5gb is all the RAM it supports. I wouldn’t bother upgrading until you have a proper OS cause I’d recommend 4 at minimum and preferably 6-8. RAM is dirt cheap so no reason not to have 8gb these days. It’ll only cost $60 anyway.

And running Win7 with 1GB is an exercise in futility. 64-bit Win7 runs significantly better with 8GB of RAM than 4GB, much less only 2GB.
Do people even run 32-bit Win7 at home? Obviously more than 4GB in that instance would be pointless.
K ill get Intel i5 or i7 ,4 GB RAM and will download Win 7 64-bit.Thanks for the help guys!)
Get 8gb , trust me. Do not listen to the age old “4gigabite is enough and anything over it is wasted” line. “Hostile” above me here also points it out.
go for a i5 that has a unlocked multiplier like a 2500K default 3.4ghz (mine runs on 4.5ghz but is able to go higher ) world of a difference. A i7 is the same as a i5 basically but supports hyperthreading, now there is something that is unused in game and with it turned on you get lower OC’s anyway and its all about clockspeed, hypedUPthreading is not going to make your games run any better .
adding a SSD will make a world of a difference too. My load times in GW2 are about 5 to 6 seconds. In other games 1 second like in mass effect 1,2,3 iall i see is a flash of the loading screen for instance and windows boots up in 12 seconds on my setup and i usually have about 5 games installed hat i currently play which is more then enough.

Well. They do say that a 32 bit version can run up to 4gb, but you know that’s not entirely right. Especially not if you don’t know how to tweak it to the correct amount. 32 bit will usually use around 3.3 to 3.5, and therefore 4gb would be a waste since putting money in a new rig will be reality for him in a matter of time.

Ehm not if he’s using 32bit?
Though i do agree with you that an entirely new rig is the best solution. If he don’t got the money, getting 64 bit and upgrading the memory would help a bit. If he don’t got a 64 bit and only a 32 bit, 3gb is enough until he can save some money for a new rig.

He already mentioned getting a 64bit OS in his post to which i responded.

With the cheap cost of RAM, you can get 8Gb DDR3 1600 from a reliable brand for like, $40. If you’re going to run x64, might as well.
Hope you realise you’ll need a new motherboard for the i5. And if you get an Ivy Bridge, make sure it’s compatible (and not only with Sandy Bridge unless you flash BIOS).
And you’ll most likely need a new power supply. Or you’ll want one pretty soon when you go to upgrade that graphics card.
I changed my old one to a new more powerful one, because the old one fried. 0.o

If you don’t have a 64-bit OS, upgrading beyond 4GB is a waste (unless you upgrade your OS as well)…

Do people just pop in after reading the header and respond because it sure looks like it. Why respond to a thread if you dont even bother reading it ?
I’m surprised you’re still using 2GB, you need 4GB minimal for most things these days, I’m on 4GB and have no problems (well I had 8GB but one stick failed on me). And your CPU definitely needs an upgrade, 2 cores don’t cut it anymore.
However GW2 runs on my laptop which has a 2core 2.5GHz but 4GB ram as well.
